Martin never falls into the trap of writing notes for padding out - for false “complexity”, bravura or bombast. Every note, played by any instrumentalist, has a significance. His themes are true powerful subjects capable of development and containing their own embedded, intense meaning. What a unique masterpiece this concerto is. Congratulations to everyone involved in this brilliant execution, with special praise to Messieurs Roussev and Milanov.

Martin è unico ,non è influenzato da nessun altro compositore .( armonie e costruzione formale personalissime ed emozionanti ). Grazie from Sicilia .

Composed in 1950-51. The first movement quotes from Martin's recent choral work Five Ariel Songs ("Come Unto These Yellow Sands"), his only English-language composition. Not long after, he embarked on his opera Der Sturm, setting Shakespeare's The Tempest in Schlegel's German translation, and incorporating most of the music from the Five Ariel Songs.
