Captain Pike in original series because whether it be in a Rock Band where somebody left or got fired ( Signe Anderson , Jefferson Airplane , Rod Evans, Deep Purple, or Dave Evans AC?DC ) or Talk Show host ( Steve Allen Tonight Show ) , I have always been fascinated by someone who was a very good , competent preliminary but, alas, became more of a footnote or one hit wonder.

list25 Scotty was a Canadian war hero, that made my day, thanks for the info buddy.
list25 hey Juan
Knew all of them except Nimoy/Kelley near miss. "Damned Fascinating, Jim!"
I love that Jimmy was a war hero before a sci-fi hero.
My favorite Captain is Captain Morgan and may the schwartz be with you !
I can do the Vulcan salute with either hand, no problem.
I wish I could say I have other, more impressive talents...
I will legit get hate for this, but I like Jonathen Archer. He is like the best of Kirk and Picard in one captain and has this oddly human feel to him that was a little harder to get with Picard and Kirk standing alone.
Archer was the only thing I liked about Enterprise. I think part of it is that Bakula is a fantastic actor. Which made it all the more glaring that most of the cast were mediocre actors. They should have written stuff putting him and Billingsley together, the other really great actor on the show.
Totally agree. His captain was strong and had a great character development arc; getting tougher as he faced more adversity. I like Bakula but got bored with Quantum leap quite quickly.
Yeh, I don't get it: it seems a lot of people didn't like it, but personally I rate it as my 2nd favourite series, TOS being the 1st and while I'm at it: TNG 3rd, Voyager 4th, DS9 last. I love Discovery but it's too early to see where it sits in comparison with the others. I think I might get some flack for this (If anyone reads it).
no hate from me, Enterprise is my favorite
I've always liked Archer as well. He's not my favorite per se, but I do like him, and feel that he works well for the given setting. Also helps that I'm a fan of Scott Bacula for his role in Quantum Leap too...
I actually think Captain Sulu was the best captain, it's a shame he never got his own show. His voice and demeanor were just perfect for the role.
Hi My friend I have seen that you are enjoying this video. I am making similar videos with abit of more quality and newer subjects. It will be great if you check it and give me your feedback. thanks
WHAT !!? it made no sense on how he became Captain, I have no problem with SULU being Captain but at least explains how he got PROMOTED !
Mr. Kim from Voyager finally got promoted to captain when he chased admiral Janeway before she went back in time on the last episode *also young Harry Kim was captain of the alien vessel he named nightingale 👍
@@debratwidle2994 yeah that is great but it makes no sense how Sulu went straight to Captain, if anything Scottie or even Chekov should have been promoted to something after the events of Star Trek V.
My neighbor dated Scotty back during the original show. He even took her to the set!
Wow!
R.I.P. Stephen Hawking ? This came out after his death !
I'm partial to Picard only because TNG was the first Star Trek series I had ever watched as a child I would watch with my dad
I think that’s why he’s my favorite. I think if I would’ve watched the original series 1st Kirk would be my favorite captain
Wow, me too, Natalie. The classic Trek was before I was born. I remember my 9th grade homeroom classmate talking about the warp transition special effect. At the time, it came out, the only real competition for it was reruns of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Chronologically, TNG occurs in the 24th century. But Star trek: TNG had so much better special effects than Buck Rogers. The in-joke was, "How is it that the technology of the 24th century is better than that of the 25th?"
And one time when Jay Leno was doing his monologue he said, "Has anyone see Captain Picard on the new Star Trek? I guess it just goes to show that even in the 24th century, they still haven't found a cure for balding."
@@perfectsplit5515
That is easy to answer. _Buck Rogers_ can not possibly exist in the _Star Trek_ universe. Their stories are way too contradictory. _Buck Rogers_ certainly is not _Star Trek_ canon. Also, _Buck Rogers_ is hardly futuristic enough for its time.
A cure for balding? Presumably such a cure would not be natural, and some people, in the _Star Trek_ future even, apparently prefer natural in at least some things. Why does a person have to have unnatural hair? Perhaps people in the future, as in the past, more so respect the wisdom of years of elderly people, and so perhaps looking elderly is also looking distinguished or something? We see in _Voyager_ that babies in the _Star Trek_ future are still usually delivered vaginally, and that a "fetal transport" is only used in problem deliveries. Apparently, natural is still best in some of these things. Perhaps a natural birth has some benefit for the baby? Well at least that is one good thing about an unlikely BTW _Star Trek_ future. No longer will we be cutting people open to do an operation or to deliver a baby. But then I imagine that "food replicators" are more believable than "transporters". Can we really trust a computer to put a person back together in just the right way, down to the subatomic level? Whereas as replicated food, probably does not have to be "perfect". Maybe that partially explains why they are still using some old traditional food ways, such as cooking, on _Voyager_ although I don't find that very believable. I think if we had "food replicators" then most all food would probably be replicated. Traditionally-prepared food, probably would not taste that much better.
Probably in the _Star Trek_ future, many people still believe in having naturally large families and not using unnatural birth control. Why else had humans spread to many 100s of worlds? In fact, isn't that the real reason for "food replicators"? Not to make the _Star Trek_ story more plausible, but because humans had so hugely populated the earth, that much land was needed merely for human habitation, and "food replicators" freed the land from being needed also for agriculture. "Food replicators" were hardly just for convenience, but the obvious way to feed the by-then enormous world population.
BTW, Captain Piccard has an artificial heart. Due to his unfortunate altercation with some unruly ugly aliens during his Starfleet Academy years. Why didn't he have a replacement real heart? Well perhaps the sci-fi story warning of the movie _The Island_ somehow deterred that natural/unnatural approach.
@@yosefmacgruber1920 "A cure for balding? Presumably such a cure would not be natural, and some people, in the Star Trek future even, apparently prefer natural in at least some things. No, it goes like this: The rise of MMA in the 21st century led to many MMA competitors shaving their heads completely bald (even men with no natural hair loss) in order eliminate the inconvenience of wiping off your sweaty hair while grappling, and to eliminate the possibility of an opponent grabbing one's hair to control him during a fight. Thusly, society began to associate completely bald men with toughness and masculinity. More and more men started to shave their heads bald, even with no martial arts training. It became a thing and never went away.
After finishing TOS, one absolutely _must_ watch Star Trek Continues here on UA-cam. It is in my mind 100% canon to the series, and serves as an amazing final season to the original series.
No. Just no.
The actors are nowhere near. It's like adding a LOT of water to a good wine. So... SHIT.

8:09 I honestly don't understand this phenomenon of making death threats towards actors for the actions of their on-screen characters. On some level, the people making the threats realize that what they see on television is not actually happening. I mean, to make the threat in the first place, these fans would have to find out the real life name of the actor playing that character.
If anything, a character playing a bad guy so well that you get mad at them means they are a good actor and should be lauded. For instance, I hate what Warden Norton does to Andy Dufrane in The Shawshank Redemption. But I have no ill will towards the actor Bob Gunton who played Norton. I thought he did a fantastic job.
TᕼᕮᗰᕮSSIᕼᗩ
That movie gives me chills every damn time. The novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is still a superb story and has depth that was not captured on screen.
Just one of a grand body of work such is King.
I will have to check but I swear it is in Different Seasons from 1989(?).
Edit: 1/2 Wrong year 1982.
Btw, what a great collection in there. You might also recognize The Body (later adapted into the movie Stand By Me.)
I don't get it either. Some people are just THAT disconnected.
i heard trivia of Giligans Isle stating that viewers were alearting the coast guard about the ship wreck.

That does not surprise me after the War of the Worlds broadcast by Orson Welles.
My favorite captain is Jean Luc Picard
BabyGirl Montgomery I just like Janeway and Kirk!
yeah mine too!
Nope, CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK, CAPTAIN OF THE USS ENTERPRISE. ORIGINAL STAR TREK ALWAYS, AND FOREVER!
@ambulance girl Back when TNG first came out, many die-hard traditional Trekkers were prejudiced against Captain Picard. They judged him only by comparing him to Kirk. There is even an episode of The Simpsons where 3 Springfield University geeks are reading online reasons from MIT as to why Picard is better than Kirk, and laughing at them. The first two seasons of TNG were crap, and that didn't help much.
But over time, people began to see the advantages that Picard had over the "space-cowboy" James Kirk. People eventually learned to judge Picard on his own merits, without comparing him to anyone else. Picard was so much more well-spoken than Kirk. He acted more like a proper captain, staying on the ship and letting the more expendable junior officers explore the dangerous planet below. Picard was more of a diplomat, who was willing to see the big picture, rather than get into fistfights with alien bad guys just to inflate his ego. To my surprise, all the women wanted him (and it had nothing to do with his looks). Women liked his command presence and his deep authoritative voice. He was the man. Patrick Stewart went on to get voted "Most Sexy" Man on TV in TV Guide's poll.
Kirk could kick his ads!
My favorite Captain is Janeway. She rocks!
I love her better than them all....
As I always say, there are three ways to do anything. The right way, the wrong way, and the Janeway.

There's no way to pick a favorite Captain or favorite other when it comes to Star Trek. They are all so interesting and unique. Every one of them.
There is SO much about the details of this Trek list, but this comment would become a book. Suffice to say that the actors and actresses in Trek were truly impressive people. If you have a chance, look up Susan Oliver (The Orian slave girl Vina, in The Cage) as just one example.
oliver appeared in a lot of westerns before startrek as did doohan and kelley. rodenberry initially pitched star trek as 'a wagontrain to the stars' to nbc.
Oliver was a licensed cross-country pilot (props)
These are the basic facts that a casual fan will know. In the original concept the crew was supposed to be a 50/50 ratio of male to female but the network said that might lead to fans thinking to much hanky-panky was going on and had them change it to a 1 to 5 ratio. Gene use to say that few amount of attractive and physically fit women can keep the entire crew satisfied.
I thought he said 30% female.
K1productions that could probably be, I am remembering the quote from thirty years ago.
Desilu was founded in 1950 by Ball and Arnaz for the purpose to sell I love Lucy to television networks. Ball had been in a CBS radio show called My Favourite Husband which she wanted to bring to television which was the main reason for them buying the studio and founding the company. The show was renamed I Love Lucy presumably because of copyright. So the origins of Desilu was not so altruistic as portrayed but a promotion machine for Lucille Ball. In 1967Desilu was procured by Gulf & Western. Desilu only produced the first two series of Star Trek.
Is actually: "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a Spock!"
This was a good video. Love the humor. Thank you. I needed the laugh today.
Lightsaber Addict I
Kahn joke has me rolling
Why thank you! LoL I am pretty proud of that one.
The look on his face sealed the deal.
My favorite Captain is James T. Kirk (the real one, Shatner). Part of the reason is he IS the classic Star Trek Captain, another reason is Shatner himself, he's a great character in real life.
Great video, I knew most of those, but not all, and the lens flair when talking about Abrams od'ing on lens flares was a really nice touch.
Captain Kirk was a macho hero out of 50's pulp fiction who always duked it out with the bad guys and got the girl in the end. He was a swashbuckling space cowboy. Captain Picard was a more modern captain who came up in a time where a starship captain who got horizontal with every green space babe had to worry about the possibility of contracting an STD.
@@perfectsplit5515 True, but the whole Star Trek series of shows and movies are due to Shatner's screen presence. He kept you watching, even if the scripts weren't good, and he made the series legendary. Did the same thing with Boston Legal.
@@perfectsplit5515
Aaaannnd... Shatner complained vehemently about all the bed hopping they were having his character do, but the network demanded it. Even though the censors at the time were watching them like hawks they did get away with some cute scenes, like when he's kissing a girl before they cut to commercial, then when they return, he's sitting on the foot of the bed putting his boots on... ;)
Additionally, Captain Picard was criticized by die-hard classic Trekkers when TNG first hit the airwaves in '87. Some people called him a "wimp" who could not fill Kirk's shoes. In an episode of The Simpsons, the Springfield University geeks are arguing online with MIT people, who are giving reasons why Captain Picard is better than Captain Kirk. The Springfield U people are laughing at the "absurd" arguments.
I think that later on with time, people began to judge Jean-Luc Picard on his own merits, without comparing him to anyone else. He was a diplomat, statesman, and a philosopher. He acted more like a captain, remaining safely on the bridge while the more expendable junior officers explored the dangerous planet below. In 1994, an ROTC student wrote a research paper comparing Captain/Admiral Kirk to Captain Picard, in a comparison of leadership styles. He argued that Picard was more disciplined and obeyed the rules better.
Decades later, people really do recognize Picard as the greatest Star Trek captain of all time. Some people describe him as, "what Chuck Norris would be if he read books". When Sheldon and his geeky friends from The Big Bang Theory went to that sci-fi convention, they dressed up as TNG crew members, not as classic Trek people.
@@perfectsplit5515
Well, I don't know if I would call Picard the greatest captain of all time... I think it's a little like Bond; both captains were the best of the time they served, different times, different ships. It would be interesting to look back and discuss how each captain would have approached some of the missions the other had. (I think Kirk would have loved Q... ;) )
I thought Mel Brooks' movie 'Spaceballs' came up with the phrase 'Beam Me Up, Scottie'.
12 I have some problems doing the Vulcan salute myself, I can do it just fine with my left hand but not my right hand. Which seems odd to me because I'm right-handed.

As a Jew myself, it comes pretty easily to me. LoL I can do it with either hand.
I'm also right handed but find using my left hand easier(and less painful) for the salute
Firnon Zodd I'm the opposite
An actress in the original series also had trouble with the salute. She had to form the salute off camera and then bring her hand into view.

@@howie9751 And coincidentally, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine came out a year before Babylon 5, and was a plagiarized copy of Babylon 5.
I used to go to a lot of conversations in the 80s and 90s where I met all of the original cast. James and Nichele were my favorites. They would sit and answer questions and tell stories for hours. Not just up on stage, in a room sitting around casually. Nickels sang, Doohan talked about the war. These two seemed like they really liked each other. Great memories.
I taught my daughters (12 and 14) to do the Vulcan greeting with the split fingers, and say "May the Force Be With You" just to see what people would say. It's always a great conversation starter, even for the young-uns!
I love Star Trek so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Some facts I can give you on Star Trek.
My brother stole any Star Trek toy I had. If he was grounded, and couldn't pick TV shows, he would threaten death if I didn't decide that I wanted to watch Star Trek. My brother also had the hull number of the original Starship Enterprise as his unlock code for his phone.

He sounds swell...
Who cares?
My brother once touched my toy, and I held his head in the fire! Then I squished some fruity guys head in!

You asked who my favorite captain was, it's captain Data. His brief appearance on Star Trek TNG when the federation created the tachyon net was my favourite. Even though he did not have the ability to feel emotions he created an emotional response to deal with the insubordination on his ship. That aspect in his character development was essential to show us the wooden puppet trying to be a real boy and reflected the absolute need for a captain to have order on a starship.
Feds didn't 'create' Tachyons - they are theoretical particles that move faster than light... DUH.

My mom was a HUGE Picard fan. She started referring to us by our designation in family order. She was the second child making my oldest sibling 1 of 2. This "trend" was carried on by her grandkids so my 2nd child is 2 of 4. Star Trek even had a part in her memorial service. His son? You mean David Marcus, his bastard child? He didn't get much air time. He was murdered as a hostage by the Klingons in Star Trek III, for which Captain Kirk held a bitter grudge.

There is one item wrong on here. Kelly choose to play Bones himself. He was the first actor cast, and had the choice of all leads. He found that Bones was a character that he could bring more humor in.
One scary but interesting fact about the transporter technology:
It doesn't actually transport the person from one place to another. It actually scans the distant "person" compares that scan to data stored in the computer, then recreates the pattern on the pad including the changes. What it does when it scans the distant body, it destroys it in the process.

When I first saw Menage-A-Troi, I got a hard-on when the Ferengis beamed her and Counselor Troi naked onto the Ferengi ship.
@@k1productions87 Majel Barrett also picked up a discarded piece of trash from her deceased husband's wastebasket. That piece of trash later became the series, "Earth: Final Conflict".
Shatner is Captain Kirk and the foundation of the role. All others are toppings!
Mike Dorn was a high school classmate of mine back in the Pasadena days, Baby Blair High. Pasadena High & J. Muir High had double to triple the student body, so our 1800 kids made for a 'small' school. I've been a Scifi reader since I discovered the library as a kid in 1959, Robert Heinlein is my favorite Mentor, and Star Trek & T.N.G. was just wonderful. I consider 'Firefly ' the only serious competition for top quality TV Scifi.
My favorite Trek fact is one that I'm 99% sure no one else except my brother knows about one of the Klingon soldiers from the season 3 episode of TOS. The fact is that one of the extras hired as a Klingon soldier also worked on the Batman tv series with Adam West as the stunt coordinator and stunt double for Robin as well as going on to work on several Mel Brooks films, even having a brief cameo in Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
I do not have a favorite Captain, they are all good, cause they all bring there own tricks to the trade. Saying one is more stand outish is not fair to the first one, or the last one. Chirp
Never cared for Picard...
Pike because he reminds me of Hawking
Oh...he reminded me of a Dalek
JJ Abrams used 721 & 826 lens flares in his Star Trek films. That's 1547 too many.
didn't like the lens flares...hate it when tv & movie directors act like film students
I could be misremembering, but I could have sworn Kirk said, "beam us up Scotty" in one of the animated cartoon episodes.
Voyager was my favorite Star Trek serious.
Was that the 1st series you watched? I like TNG the best, but I think that might be only because it was 1st one I saw. I know a bunch of people are same way with whatever they saw 1st
Star Trek serious?
Favorite captain? That's tough but if I had to rank them:
Picard
Archer
Kirk/Janeway tie
Sisko
And for a deep cut, I would put Jellico somewhere in the middle of that list - but I don't think being captain of the Enterprise for one two part episode qualifies you.
The book which was published in 1977 "The Making of Star Trek" had volumes of trivia, including how Roddenberry had Nimoy convinced to have plastic surgery on his ears so he wouldn't have to waste time in makeup (it was only a joke they were playing on Nimoy)
my favorite captain is sisko. he seemed to be the most real of them all. he would follow the rules to a point, but break them if needed. he stood by his crew, took care of them and seemed, as a character, as I said, more real. he had flaws and worked around them. his trouble accepting the role of emissary was something no other captain had to deal with. the episode "in the pale moonlight" shows both the depth to which sisko could go, as well as brook's acting ability. also, the episode "rules of engagement" shows how he would stand by his crew. he defends worf, accused of committing a massacre with all his ability, and even though it was proven to be a trick, and all was well, he let's worf know he was pissed off because worf committed a dumb mistake which led to his trouble. but he did it afterward, as part of his educating worf in the job of command. so, I think siskp was the best captain.
I just love that you are a real allround-nerd like me
Hi My friend I have seen that you are enjoying this video. I am making similar videos with abit of more quality and newer subjects. It will be great if you check it and give me your feedback. thanks
Crazy Chimp Int. I have watched 3 of you'r videos, and the quality is way lower on your channel then list 25.
1. You need somone who speaks propper british or English. The announcer is pretty bad at that.
2. There is no personality. You just show trailers and commercials of the products.
3. List 25 vs list of 3. No honnorbel mentions, or explanations why these 3 are the best/worse
4. You poach people from other channel's and tell them your product is better, but its worse.
5. No grafics. You just show a entire trailer and talk. Thats like a 5 minut job to make that kind of video.
6. No branding. You have a horrible distorted branding. Look on the big channels ans see how clear and easy it is to notice there mark vs you'r own.
7. No clear direction. Its almost like you just look up any top 3 on the internet and take premade products/list and voice it
8. Lack of personality. There is no personality in you'r videos.
9. Make full links instead of a shirt version. Nobody knows where those links go.
10. Don't f.. poach people from other channels.
Favorite Captain is Picard. (Grew up watching TNG) least favorite is Archer
Toucan SonofSam Least favourite, Janeway
My #1 favorite Captain is Jean Luc Picard. My second fave is Captain James T. Kirk. And then there is also Captain Katherin Janeway.
Captain Kirk
Tinnitus: I've got it. Sometimes it's so bad it wakes me up at night. One time it was actually so painfully loud, and getting louder, that I was on the verge of calling 911 when it "popped" and stopped.
William Shatner as Kirk that's my favorite
Everytime I see you I think a slightly heavier Wil Wheaton
Shut up Wesley!
@@jackknauff7973 yes captain Picard
Captain Picard hands down. Patrick Stewart’s acting ability stole every scene he was in. Truly remarkable stuff. His career is insane.
Picking a Favorite Captain is a difficult task, since each one had their ups and downs.
James Tiberius Kirk was the Ladies man, but he was also a Captain who got things done, no matter who he had to step on. His struggles with Academy teachings vs Gut instinct, often made him get results.
Jean Luc Picard had something very particular, and that was Charisma. He was a people's person, and always managed to get his message across. One thing I like about TNG, is that the Show took a couple of Seasons to get going, giving the impression that the crew went through a process of learning their posts.
Kathryn Janeway was the toughest of them all. Definitely someone I wouldn't pester for too long. Bringing an unruly Maquis Crew to syncronize so perfectly with a Starfleet Crew was nothing short of miraculous. Technically, Voyager should have never survived the long trip, but her genius mettle got the crew home, with a little help from the future's Kim and Chakotay, and her own future self.
Benjamin Lafayette Sisko, probably my favorite, if I really had to decide. Crappy assignment and crappy situations. He had to serve Starfleet, Bajor, and the Prophets, and managed to do so flawlessly. A series where backstabbing was the order of the day, and trusting anyone became so hard, many did not survived. Yet, he walked out at the end, and I still remember that face, as he was packing, "I am through with this sh..., and Starfleet can kiss my a..."
Although I am not a big fan of the new Star Trek, I have seen all the films, and to be honest, the best thing about it is Karl Urban. I mean, this guy got the McCoy character so perfect, it was uncanny. DeForest Kelley would have been very proud indeed!

Sisko!
Definitely the most developed of all the captains. And the only one that faced two of the deadliest enemies to the Federation.
for me it a toss between Kirk (Shatner The more physical action captain) to Picard (The more Intelicital captain) it like choosing the best James Bond Sean Conroy or Roger Moore
STTOS was supposed to be like a western in space; at least, that was how it was pitched to the networks, witness the revised pilot with the shootout between Kirk and Gary at the end (can't remember the character's last name, sorry). So there's no surprise it turned out that way. Oh, BTW, it's' 'Connery', not Conroy. And by the time Moore showed up, he was really too old. Connery was 32 when he first played Bond; Moore was what, 47? I know Moore was Fleming's original choice, but that was when he was much younger.
Damn, at first I thought:
"Man, Wil Wheaton really let himself go."
OMG! I can see it now that you said it.
I'm in a majority, I'm sure, but my favorite Captain was Janeway and Voyager was my favorite of the STs.
Q - tortures and torments both Kirk and Picard ...falls in love with Janeway.👍
is it just me or does Juan look like an older, fatter wil wheaton?

The ceiling of the transporter pad in the Enterprise-D is the original transporter floor pad set from TOS.
Haruka Takachiho - the creator of 80's sci-fi anime Dirty Pair - and Gene Roddenberry were friends and nod to each other work. In one OVA there's a background image of the enterprise turning into a fighting robot. Roddenberry was apparently a huge fan of the Dirty Pair's costumes.
Favorite captain. Shit, talk about tough question. ALL damn good in their own way. By a slim margin, will have to say Janeway.
She had me at, "coffee". ;)
Captain Lorca!!! Winking face emoji?
Capt. Picard!!
I like this guy Mike, he seems perfect for giving Star Trek trivia.
Knew all of the TNG facts, some of the original series ones, none of the reboot movie ones.
My favorite Captain is Captain Janeway. I love Star Trek Voyager!
captain janeway voyager!!
All the way!
There’s coffee in that nebula
JUSTICE FOR TUVIX!
While I love Piccard for being the consummate "philosopher captain", I will never think of the captain of the Enterprise as anyone other than Shatner's James T. Kirk.
Me too.
I think Spot was a Founder (shape shifter from Deep Space Nine) doing advanced recon for the Dominion. It took the shape shifter a bit of time to get Spot's form standardized.
