I played with Duck and he was a no non-sense bass player. I was in my early 20's and really enjoyed having that foundation under my sax!
That's awesome that you got to play with him. I love a good horn section. I got to play with some great players.
I love the historical perspective. Always leaning something new with you. Excellent lesson too. Thanks Steve.
Hey John. Yeah, he was a great player.
@@stevekonbass yes he was. I love that you have so many influences from so many different genres.
Nice! Watched "Blues Brothers" over the weekend (1st time in years) and noticed Donald "Duck" Dunn was bassist onstage (smoking a pipe).
Yep, and Steve Cropper was on guitar. I gotta watch it again myself. There were a bunch of people that made cameos... Joe Walsh, Pee Wee Herman, Steven Spieberg, etc.
Hey Butch here, Duck Dunn was one the greats no doubt about it! Thanks for the lesson! I just bought a new bass, a Sire V5. Plays great, nice tone, super smooth neck, and a good price!
Congrats! Hope you get years of enjoyment with it. I played one of those Sire Marcus Miller basses a while back. Played great.
Thanks Steve. Nicely explained thanks
You're welcome.
Very nice! Thanks!
Thanks for tuning in!
Nice lesson Steve, thx!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, Steve. More like this would be cool.
I most likely will.
Great stuff Steve. Please do more vids of how the greats put color into their playing.
Thanks! Duck was a great.
Nice round lesson with some background in about only 3 1/2 minutes and very helpful!
About half a year ago now I picked up late childhood me's bass again and luckily found your channel. The lessons and these shorts really helped me getting the much needed confidence and also perspectives for learning. And my old PJ is happy to be played on again, even if the family has gotten bigger already and it has to share the attention.
So, if you read this by any chance, thanks for your work and your influence, especially on my learning behaviour! The lessons are well structured and followable, while english isn't even my first language. Learning a lot here, always coming back for more!
If you learn bass as well as you learned English you'll do great. Stay with it and enjoy yourself. Thanks for the comment. Glad to hear the lessons were a help to you.
Thank you!
You're welcome.
Awesome lesson thank you
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
I gotta disagree. It's not the 16th notes, it's the rests in between. You were kind of rushing through the demonstrations, but without the release of those notes before going to the next, there is no "bounce".
Ehh... I can't agree with that. There are no rests in Soul Man and if we take the 16th notes out it just sounds very straight. For the rests in Everybody Needs Somebody that are between the 8th notes, yeah that adds a little something, but the 16th notes he sneaks in just give it that added bounce.
