Think I can buy the ones for the Model Y so that they come chrome deleted already? Previous owner dented the chrome on one of them. Also, how much were they?
@@TeslaInventory Thanks! I caught the price when I finished the video, guess I was too excited about the prospect of swapping my 3 cameras for Y cameras that I asked too early.
Thanks for trying this out guys. Great video. As an early 2017 MS owner I am definitely considering this. I am HIGHLY interested in seeing you guys replace the tri-cameras as the dashcam quality is horrific from HW2 cars
I changed both side repeater camera's myself. Triplecam is restricted so had service center install ($170 for part and $35 for install) it while MS was in the shop for infotainment upgrade. Nothing like getting a 2016 Oct Build model S to the latest tech ;)
Noticed same thing. The angle is wider. It makes me wonder if AP V2 cameras have a blind spot on the sides, that may make it useless on the streets, while AP V2.5+ should work better.
I have a 2016 Model S and it doesn't show any camera on the screen except the rear camera (unless I don't know how to access them) did you have to upgrade anything? If so what? Thanx guys. Great video
Thanks guys. I'm swapping out the cameras in the morning. Note that they have a new part number now for the side repeater cameras. RH = 1642011-00-A and LH = 1642010-00-A. Cost was $130 per camera at Service Center.
Super easy process. Follow the tips provided in the video above (tape around the camera, go in from the back side and push in the clips on the side and bottom, use trim tool to pry from the outside top). Maybe a 30 minute process for both sides. Great results!
5:40 My side view cameras are 'peppered' with dots from hail in Yellowstone but the rest of my car (X) was OK. Your point is true. I'm wondering about recalibrating or if there really should be some config file changes. ie. will this affect FSD processing based on assumptions about your side cameras. I'm seriously thinking of doing this if there are no negative ramifications.
My driver's side B-Pillar camera was swapped mobile, it's similar to these, especially once you can look through these cams. The triple would be interesting to see done.
Now that the repeater cameras activate when you turn left or right (12/21), are you finding that at night that these cameras leak light making them useless at night. I had to get a further upgraded cameras just recently 3/22? all works great now...
Wow...like you read my mind. I literally was just wondering about this yesterday. I would’ve been paranoid about doing this without seeing this video. As for the B pillar cams, I had the B-pillar card reader go bad in my Model 3 and watched the mobile tech remove it. The cam was right there and looked like an easy install. Now that I have an X (instead of the 3), I’m wondering if it’s as easy to remove that piece where the cam is mounted. Since my X was built circa early 17, like David’s S, I’d love to see you change those cams out, too.
great job erik. and yeah, perhaps not required, BUT, its definitely good to know that we have the option to change it and tesla will accommodate us by selling us the part, to which i wasn't aware of that.. i thought tesla would never sell you parts as they did with Rich Rebuilds. etc. but, i imagine his VIN was already banned or something along those lines
Would be nice if Tesla was more comprehensive in what kinds of upgrade parts and services they offer. Even if they charged more for doing the cameras, it would be a nice option. Would like seeing you tackle the other cameras if you decide to do that. Also, are you going to sell the old cameras? I wonder how much you can get for those.
Great video and love to see all the cameras to be refreshed. However, not sure if any setting / configuration needed to be changed for autopilot after upgrading those cameras.
Hello I would like to buy an old model s. Model that doesn’t have side cameras... Is it possible to add this camera from Tesla or another solution from other builders ? Only for video surveillance, not for autopilot. Thanks ! :-)
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Hope you can upgrade the front cameras as well. Did you check with Tesla SC whether they can install these new cameras for you or you just decided to do it yourself?
I'm considering buying a Tesla as my next vehicle (I just bought a 2016 Suburban today, only reason I made the last minute decision to not get a Tesla this time around was simply how EXPENSIVE the auto insurance would be), but I still like to continually do research and keep up with the latest news in the EV community. That said, under what conditions or reasons would you feel the need to replace the side cameras for? Long time ago when I had a dash cam, I realized that the sun actually damages the camera (CMOS) sensor, so over time, the footage would become more and more 'blurry' despite still recording in 720p resolution. I have always wondered, given Tesla's strategy of relying on cameras for a 360 degree situational awareness/view, is it a case where these cameras are also susceptible to the UV rays from the sun, or do they have a protective UV-resistant screen over the lens, a sort of sunscreen if you would, that would reduce the damage caused to the camera sensor and y'all are replacing the cameras for another reason. I've also heard a rumor that apparently if you didn't purchase the FSD package from the factory, but then you decide to get it later on and you don't have the hardware to support it, you'd need to replace the autopilot computer and all of the cameras? That doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever (at least for the cameras) as I could recall Elon Musk mentioning how every Tesla will be equipped with FSD from a hardware perspective, and it's just a matter of paying the $x amount to get the software capability to power it. Am I wrong, or missing something? Please let me know as like I said I'm looking to purchase a Tesla perhaps next year or in 2026. TIA
I think it would be bit safer if you would pry the repeater from the bottom instead of the top (after pressing the clips in, obviously), then tilt it slightly and pull out.
Hi Just wondering if you know how I can safely wash my Tesla Model Y (what products to use). Because of the virus I don't want anyone to be in my car. I take care of my 90 year old mom and need to be safe. thank you .
Look up a hypochlorous acid maker on amazon, I use it to wipe down everything in my car as a delivery driver. It's great for all purposes house and car, replaces multiple chemical products and is extremely safe and economical. Hope this helps!
You may want to check the angle of the cameras, especially the right view. You can tell in the footage that the right is different between the before and after. I don’t know if the angle of the cameras makes a difference for AP and how it determines the distance between other cars. (Like it supposedly does for the front? I still have seen evidence either way.)
I went to the parts catalogue site and started typing in an email address to access it, and I got as far as R I C ... ... and then it suddenly threw up an error message and said the site was not currently accessible due to a server error. 😂
Hopefully this doesn't create demand that outweighs the supply, leaving people who need them for collision repairs aren't stuck waiting for people who bought them for unnecessary aesthetic.
8/16/2020; the new president of the Dominican Republic rode in a Tesla during the national procession! Making it possibly the first head of state to ride in a Tesla!
I love Tesla, love my P3D, but I can say without a doubt that these cars need a lot more than better side repeater cameras to make FSD even a possibility. These cars need side firing radars front and rear to do even basic things like reverse out of driveways into roadways. These cars will never be able to drive on their own on anything but interstate highways and even that will be a challenge because they can’t detect things in the road. I personally wouldn’t spend any money on the side repeater cameras. I wish the rear view camera was higher quality when in motion. It’s a blurry hot mess. I paid for FSD on both of our Model 3s but I wouldn’t on any future Tesla unless they received a comprehensive software, hardware and processing power upgrade that included the side firing radars that enable real blind spot detection, cross traffic alerts and the possibility to detect cyclists, animals, and pedestrians traveling perpendicular to the car before they’re in the line of sight of the cameras.
Its so strange a car company has restricted parts and wont sell some parts to the public no other manufacturer in the world does that and all that does is hurt the consumers
lol, lame...i was searching for upgrades, like literally throw away the tesla junk cameras and put in some high quaity, high res cameras instead, not overpriced lame tesla cameras of a newer revision.
Think I can buy the ones for the Model Y so that they come chrome deleted already? Previous owner dented the chrome on one of them. Also, how much were they?
I think you can. I didn't because they weren't listed for the S and I was concerned with compatibly issues. The S ones were $130 each.
@@TeslaInventory Thanks! I caught the price when I finished the video, guess I was too excited about the prospect of swapping my 3 cameras for Y cameras that I asked too early.

Lol, the camera facing on you guys, was the whole time focused on the steering wheel. XD
typical rookie mistake :)

Did you use the back door? 🤣😂😅

It looks like the lenses are different so the camera view is different. Could cause calibration issues...maybe?
Noticed same thing. The angle is wider. It makes me wonder if AP V2 cameras have a blind spot on the sides, that may make it useless on the streets, while AP V2.5+ should work better.
In the latest version, you have the ability to kick off a camera calibration. I would recommend that after you replace the cameras.
I have a 2016 Model S and it doesn't show any camera on the screen except the rear camera (unless I don't know how to access them) did you have to upgrade anything? If so what? Thanx guys. Great video
Same with my December 2017. How to show other camera beyond rear?
The rearview mirror was focus perfectly 😂

Yes! Would love to see if you can replace forward facing? Do you know if the side cameras from 2021 model refresh will work for a replacement?
Absolutely change all of the cameras
Wow, we would love to see that. This looked easy to do.
0:10 focusing on the rear view mirror and the stearing wheel 😂 ™️

Link added to description. Sorry!
Did you end up changing the front or pillar cameras? Would love to see that
Are you selling your old ones?
Do this apply to model 3? I saw you were checking the videos on the S.
Is this camera focusing on the rear view mirror????
How about the night vision?
Who is the manufacturer of the camera that Tesla uses?
Now that the repeater cameras activate when you turn left or right (12/21), are you finding that at night that these cameras leak light making them useless at night. I had to get a further upgraded cameras just recently 3/22? all works great now...
Did you have to calibrate the cameras?
did you notice any hot pixels (white dots with high ISO, at night)?
Could it be installed in a Tesla S early 2016 as well?
I found the autocollate tesla very beautiful, please can you tell me where you bought it from?
@DaErik did this car get the fsd beta update?

Any chance you can figure out how to reconnect the tuner after the MCU upgrade too? That would be awesome to restore lost functionality.
Before reinstalling the cameras you might want to check to see if they are operative. Just a suggestion.
You should go onto service mode and recalibrate the cameras.

Would love to see the front tri-camera swap.
Hey does this effect autopilot
Wanted to see abstact ocean cover on side repeater camera ???
I personally would’ve tried to swap the camera from the housing. So I wouldn’t have to deal with installing new wrap.
I would do it but I have a Sep 2018 car and a March 2019 and an Oct 2009... so not sure it applies...
Hella yeah! Do 'em all
Haha, although another great video , your camera was focused on the steering wheel. You guys are blurry haha. Thanks again for the video.
Looks great!
I have noticed this in my model Y. Does your model Y have the same missing color issue?
You could sell your old ones so it wouldn't really cost all that much to upgrade after you sell old ones.
