- Richard Dawson Kiel (September 13, 1939 - September 10, 2014) was an American actor known for his role of the steel-toothed Jaws in the James Bond movies The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979) as well as the video game Everything or Nothing; he also had cameos in many other James Bond video games. He was also known for roles in The Longest Yard (1974), Force 10 from Navarone (1978), Pale Rider (1985), and as Mr. Larson in the 1996 comedy Happy Gilmore. In television he appeared as the Kanamit aliens in the classic The Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man" and as Dr. Miguelito Loveless' assistant, Voltaire, in first-season episodes of The Wild, Wild West (1965-1966).

Giant of a man with an even bigger heart!
Richard Kiel was the epitome of a gentle giant, but the nose smashing scene in this movie is hysterically funny!

He lived to be 75. Much longer than most giants
I wonder if he ever had treatment for is Acromegaly/Gigantism? Maybe radiation on the tumor. I had neurosurgery, radiation and now chemo every month to hold it in check. It is rare for anyone to live past 50 without treatment.
I remembered Richard was just shy too weeks about to be 75...
I visited his gravesite in the summer of 2020. If anyone knows his family would you please ask them to honor him by having his permanent headstone placed? He touched many lives with his very unique and talented acting ability

Yes, he improved many, many, lives with his acting. A rare, special.person. He entirely absorbed your attention with his presence!!!
Everyone who knew or worked with him always said what a lovely, genuine bloke he was. Whatever he appeared in, he made it better. I watched 'Moonraker' at the cinema when it was released, and everyone cheered when Jaws appeared on screen.

That's one of my favorite movies specifically because of Kiel's shenanigans! I never fail to laugh myself crazy whenever seeing him get furious at the guard on the opposing team and yell out that he's going to clothesline that S.O.B.. The aftermath where everybody's saying that the guard "broke his f---ing neck!" always makes me howl, too.
Glad i had a chance to meet mr kiel i was in the 10th grade @ time did not know he was a picture star at that time to serve man was one of my best to see him in highland pk 1972 😀 r.i.p tony bautista

I miss both Richard Kiel and George Carlin so much and Richard Kiel along with George Carlin are both one of my absolute favorites. Richard Kiel was a great actor in The Longest Yard 1974 with Burt Reynolds and Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler, he was awesome as Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, and Richard Kiel gave a great performance as Sampson in The Longest Yard 1974.
I also love George Carlin. George Carlin was the most brilliant and best American comedian of all time, Jammin' in New York as well as Back in Town from 1992 to 1996 are both my all time favorite George Carlin specials, and George Carlin was very good as the role of Mr. Conductor on Shining Time Station.

i’ve loved that movie for decades.
I was lucky enough to sit next to him and his mother on a flight from Fresno to Sacramento. We talked the entire flight. One of the nicest people I've ever met.

Ironically, Adam Sandler was in the remake of this film. The former and Kiel were in "Happy Gilmore" together. I wonder why the latter was unavailable for the remake. It would've been nice to see them in another movie together.
Richard's physical issues kept him from being in films like the new Longest Yard. In Happy Gilmore, there is only one scene where he is shown in full body. He had to have someone to lean on to do the scene.
