"A talk with Ken" - Homelessness in Trinidad and Tobago.

- In the vicinity of "Busy Corner" in the downtown Chaguanas area, you'll see drawings and cartoon like figures on the walls.
I was lucky to have seen Ken at work and decided to ask him to talk about his work and his life as someone who is currently experiencing homelessness. He was very willing to talk but he didn't want to talk much about his art, but to simply have a conversation.

@Gomattie Samuels, do NOT assume people on the streets are not intelligent. There are MILLIONS of intelligent, exceptionally gifted and talented people living on the streets across the 🌎 world! Suddenly, mental illness, drug addiction and disorders of the mind, often affect the most brilliant . Even the ones that are not that brilliant , we should still feel compassion for and giving a helping hand ! Heart ❤️

@Roger Ramnarine it can never * be " by choice." That is ALSO part * of the mental illness & or drug addiction: whereby they feel that they are in ●control ● of the situation 🤔....but in reality... THEY ARE NOT.
The disturbed mind 🧠 or the drug addiction 🤔 😳 is in charge. Trinidad needs to do more outreach programs, as well as hire more social workers to cope with this overwhelming problem.
((( I also do NOT doubt that Ken was a VICTIM of obeah, puja or wicked evil witchcraft or Science , because of his talent, excellent job... spirits of Jealousy... it all changed his destiny... I pray that the YOLKS that hold this man in BONDAGE and all that are mentally tortured, from illness, abuse, addiction... are BROKEN 🔗 ⛓️ 🔗 in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth !!

I have had many interactions with Ken, and look forward to chatting with him every time I’m in Chaguanas. He is genuinely a nice guy, very articulate and extremely talented. I always wished things would have been different for him. So sad to see the sadness and pain in his story.

I remember this gentleman. My Dad used to purchase the Blast Newspapers and Ken used to draw the comics for it. I remember after he said KPR and saw his signature.

This man is articulate and talented. He makes a little bit of sense but it's nothing that some medication can't help settle, but listening to him you can see an educated individual shines through.

I know Peter Ken/Ken Peter Ramdary,I met as a personliving on the street, I can see he is a learnt man,but the issuesof life sometimes throws us a lemon🍋 . Just Friday passed by that same wall watching his drawing,saying to myself what talent this man has. I know this man since we were teenagers. I remember when he started using KPR. It is unbelievable to see him this way, knowing how talented he is. Just goes to show this can happen to any one under the relevant circumstances

He is so well spoken. You would not think of that whille walking past him on the street.
I know this person...this is just heart wrenching...a person who always gave me a listening ear when I was younger....😥😥

I have known Ken for over 15 years. To say that he is intelligent is an understatement.
I am so sorry he fell through the cracks and ended up on the street. I often see him and we will have our little conversation. He has family that is well of and some of them hold very high positions in their work places. I tried to convince him to enroll in a rehab facility in couva but he said that he was happy on the street. And yes he only asks for one dollar.

Intelligent and well spoken, some of these people choose to be on the streets as he mentioned and some don't have a choice. All in all the majority of people today have some degree of mental disorder, OCD, narcissism ,schizoprenia, bipolar,depression,addictive personailty etc and the list goes on, or a combination of some. There are new ones being generated all the time across generations , now autism,ADD,ADHD etc.This is where awareness of these conditions are paramount to effectively prevent people from reaching this stage.Mental health is just as important as physical health.We live in a reactive society and a poorly one at that, not a preventative one. He needs help like all the other homeless in society.The government does not care about the general population far less for the unfortunate.We should have private organizations reaching out to help these people or we can all help each other as fellow caring humans. Life in the matrix continues....😥

Very well stated.. . Most of us are not aware of our own circumstances and given situations that traumatized the mental systems in our minds that is being triggered sooner or later thus leading up to major changes in life..
Create an organization, don't wait for someone else to do it.
But you didn't mention the neurotransmitters as the catalysts. He is not mentally ill. I didn't see that in my Mental Health Therapy books. All that u just said is far off from his cognition and concurrent articulation. Your diagnosis is wrong . Isn't correlating to Ken.
Stress is a killer I know from experience so with the right help and encouragement he can rise again God bless him

Life is filled with so much amazements. This intelligent man lives and breaths on the street for his survival.
Why do ppl have to be homeless ? Where are the shelters thats supposed to assist with these situaions ... its about time the plight of homelessness is attended to. To give new hope and chances to ppls live so they can live respectfully, equally and fairly within society ...

My heart is broken this morning seeing Ken at this stage. Ken and I grew up together, my first cartoon book was drawn by him it was the love story of Nani and Nana that was sung by Sundar Popo. Ken is a very, very, veryyyyy intelligent person but has gone through a lot of unfairness by family members. I met him before he reached to this stage, i prayed with him and encouraged him then i moved away and lost contact with him. 😢😢😢😢

Intriguing insight. Thank you 868 and Ken. It is quite a learning experience hearing Ken and good to remember that everyonevhas a story and if we hear more of them this insight can help us respect them. Homelessness makes people uncomfortable and we do not want to face it. Some because it falls into a category of things over which we feel a certain amount of helplessness.
When i look at this video i ask myself how did ken really got to this place in his life such a nice and telanted person,but one thing help starts from within.
What Mr. Ken is talking about de 100 acres kinda exist in Hawaii. There is a place (not a 100 acres but de same concept) where homeless people live and they look out for each other, clean their surrounding and have crime watch too.
They are Christian my brother but not to believe of Jesus Christ because if they were a believer of Jesus Christ you want to be there you wouldn't be somewhere nice and warm living together with them that's a love of Jesus

I used to read his articles in the Daily Mirror in Tnt.....he used to have comical cartoons in the papers too....there is a saying I learnt in school, you never know where life will lead you....such a pity what happend to KPR

The reason no one want's to walk up to a homeless people to render help or assistance is because there is a stigma that they will attack and hurt you. I see homeless people in Arima going all crazy and mental when I was younger and that Image stick with me.
I grew up with K.P.R as a little kid playing games world 🌎 in couva and he alaways reading comic books I also remember when he was drawing cartoons for the news paper

I believe you but there's evidence in my case where family left family for strangers! There's much jealousy now I am living without them 😁 so much better trust me I have no regrets there's family who would kill you for family riches again first hand experience!

They have places he can pick up himself and go to tomorrow to get off the drugs and he knows exactly where it is. Maybe police mandated drug detention programs will help them.
