Hi. I am a now 34-year old guy with CP and also use an electrical wheelchair. I wanted to share a bit of my experiences regarding scoliosis and getting a brace for treating it. I did get one in 2008, when I was 18 and in my second-to-last year of High School equivalent. I didn't really use the brace for very long, or even at all besides a few trials because it turned out to be just impractical in daily life for my situation. It also was rather uncomfortable, very difficult to put on (lying down, because I can't really stand up straight) and in general made me very stiff and every kind of movement or transfer would become challenging. I think my mother (who did/does most of my care work at home) hated it even more than me personally. So in the end, we just ditched the whole thing after trying it at home for a few times, because it just wouldn't really work for me. I never wore it to school or to bed. I never got any other treatment of my scoliosis really, so no surgery or something. I really didn't want to have anything like that if it was avoidable, because I like to have some freedom of movement etc. (as good as I can). So in summary, I just live with it, and it doesn't really bother me in daily life. I know that I'm not at straight and rather curved, but honestly, I don't really care. You are doing really well, Dallas! So keep up your good vibes. I'm pretty sure you will make the best of your live. Greetings from Austria!
yey. so, i also have cp and scoliosis, and i'm also n a wheelchair, i have a custom back which is molded 2 me. it has made my spine stop getting worse. i know u just got this chair, but it's worth looking into so that u don't have 2 worry about a brace. cool AFO's and amazing shoes
Thanks for sharing this! We did talk to the wheelchair rep and bc Dallas is still growing the custom seating will be better when she is done growing is what he said.
@@discoverwithdallas Big issue with some chiropractors, some are more gentle than others. And if you have a startle reflex, how you are handled can cause pain. Major things to consider for CP Warriors.
New sub here I have CP too and just turned 40. Keep loving life. I also have scoliosis and they never corrected it. They kept saying that the rod that is supposed to be in my back for scoliosis would not be great for a cerebral palsy patient with spasticity if you don’t mind me asking what type of cereal do you have I have spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy. I also use a wheelchair. I don’t like using walker because I don’t have two hands if I were to fall or need to carry something I do know how to walk with a backwards walker, but it’s been many years.
Hello so nice to meet you👋 Dallas has the same type of CP as you. Thank you for sharing your story, I did not know this recommendation about the rod and spasticity. I actually have heard this treatment not working well with a few other people with spastic CP. We will definitely keep this in mind if this is ever recommended. Your comment is greatly appreciated ❤️

Aww thank you 🫶🫶
I’m so proud of you and does Dallas like to go swimming?
You are lucky that you don’t need back surgery for your scoliosis cause before I hit ninth grade I had to have back surgery so you’re so lucky . 😊
Oh wow. I hope that your recovery went well and that you felt better. It’s definitely no fun having surgery❤️🩹
Awesome news, Dallas!
Wondering if you've ever looked at chiropractic care to help keep the spine in line.
We never have but may be worth looking into❤️
