Everyone always talks about how shocking and disturbing the bathtub, grave and vampire scenes are, but for me, the most alarming moment was when Oliver ripped Elspeth's tube out towards the end.
What I'm saying! Those were weird of course, but I just couldn't stop thinking about when he ripped out the tube. The sound it made when he pulled it too. eugh.

i read somewhere the reason why oliver does all the outrageous things e.g. graveyard, vampire and bathtub scene is to show how he is trying to consume the family and become them. he believes himself to become more powerful each time and can worm his way into the family as he is becoming like them. he just does it in a very literal sense!!

I’m so surprised the police didn’t catch on. He was literally the last person seen with Felix and they had a witness to confirm it (that random girl that was with him). And what about the servants and head butler???? 😭
@@netflixpartyyif I’m not mistaken the director explained the movie in some kind of interview and said that Duncan (the head butler) knew that there was something off or strange about Oliver. (And maybe that he even knew Oliver’s involvement with their deaths). That explains why the mirror was all the suddenly changed and why Duncan gave him a certain look near the end of the movie. But yes there were many plot holes and it doesn’t make sense that the police didn’t put two and two together.
They changed the ending bc the last scene was supposed to be Oliver ordering eggs and Duncan giving the wrong type of egg like on the beginning, showing that he’ll NEVER really be like the family although he has the property and money now. I’m honestly so mad Emerald decided to change bc this ending would be way better in my opinion, but she said she wanted Oliver to have his “triumphant moment” in the end. Do know though things didn’t really work 100% in his favor, since asides from Felix being dead, he’ll never be like the family - he doesn’t have the same charisma and won’t be as respected.

@@annoyingblackboy it's not meant to be seen from a realistic sense, but if u were to then ppl like the cattons don't like police prying in their family affairs and Felix's death can be covered up as an overdose bc of the coke in the champ bottle, the only suspicious death is elspeth's bc ripping out her tube shows obvious tampering, but again rich ppl who don't investigate too deeply🤷🏾♀️
In my opinion, the ending montage depicting Oliver orchestrating meeting Felix, and setting up the murders seemed to be unnecessary. The rest of the film was subtle enough, but it felt like we were being spoon-fed the twist. It might have been better had they left Oliver's involvement ambiguous, or had the audience be aware of his villainy from the get go, a la Tom Ripley.
I was thinking exactly this! I would’ve loved for it to have an American Psycho-esque ending where you’re wondering if it all really even happened or not. Because I feel like things worked out too perfectly for Oliver in the end like there’s just no way!!

It was definitely one of the weirdest movies but compared to other fcked up movies I’ve seen it…..it was still pretty bad. This movie was freaking insane 😭 but the acting???? They ate, because you couldn’t pay me to do the things Oliver did

here is my hot take on saltburn.
Literally no one would have been talking about it if the explict scenes were not thrown in there. I used the word thrown in cause i feel like they were just put there to get people to talk about it online.
The graveyard and bathtub scenes make sense but the eating out scene.. feels so out of place?
Remove the explicit scenes and the movie feels so slow, boring, like it is meandering. The plot is just not interesting.
The twist did not feel satisfying at all, especially when the montage at the end was shown-
Ok he did it from thr start but i was really disappointed when we didnt get a reason why oliver did all of this. I wanted a deep dive into his psyche but no i didn't get that.
For the people who are saying its a gross movie- it really is not that bad.

This movie was the worst two hours of my life and to this day I want every millisecond of my time and sanity back. I did not get a lick of sleep the night I watched it and was haunted by the events for about a week. I don't even know if I can get through this reaction tbh. By the end of the movie, I honestly didn't understand why he did all that. Like I get it on a surface level, but still... WHY??? It would make so much sense if it was a historical/generational thing (their family did something to my family and I hate them, whatever), but his obsession with Saltburn out of nowhere just made zero sense to me. Like was that what he was after from the get go or...? This felt like one of those "he's just crazy" plotlines and I HATED it, cause even serial killers have reasons for why they do what they do. Maybe I just didn't get it, but I'm not exposing myself to this deranged mess again to understand lmfaooo
I think that's my obsession with this movie in a sense of watching film critics find a motive because in the end it is none even if the cast says it is. Oliver is just delusional and crazy from what it looks like.

I think it depends on the person. Some people like the grotesque and the most absurd situations while others just like to keep the peace for themselves. Saltburn isn't everyone's cup of English tea, and only a few select of people actually enjoy this film for what it truly is.
