Appreciate all the content mate, especially all the traveling about on top of it all, must cost you a absolute fortune, good to see someone that cares about your audience, channels like this should have more subs and deserve to be making plenty revenue from it

There's something so special about childhoods that as adults we keep trying to replicate it whether its food, sweets, games, music, films or whatever.....anything that takes us back to better times!!

Great video Lee. This is how all fish and chips were cooked when I was a kid in the 1960's and 70's. Sad to think that this is the only shop in the UK that is still carrying on with this tradition. Beef dripping makes all the difference.

Coal won't change the taste at all!! They are cooked in dripping like many places. Looks nice but I can get the same local.

That looked absolutely stunning. It's always good to see a queue forming before a place opens and combine that with proper Beef Dripping AND cooking over Coal as a heat source and you just know that you can't go wrong.

It’s not the only coal fired one in the world. Beamish museum cook their fish and chips on coal fired fryers in beef dipping and they are delicious.

Correct. They came to Upton to learn how to fry on a coal range when they decided to install one a couple of years ago.

Brilliant :-) it was me that told you about it & sent you a link.
I actually discovered this place by complete accident. About 9 years ago we moved to a village near Wakefield called Upton & when we 1st moved here we googled fish & chip shops in Upton and this place popped up. Couldn't believe it when we looked at the website as it's so unique in this day and age a real treasure.

Not sure whether it's coal fired but that reminds me of the chippy at the Black Country Museum, which does fish & chips in beef dripping, and are well worth a sample if you're ever down Dudley way!

The chippy I used to go to as a kid, had exactly the same type of stove as that, the colours the mirror, the lights, brings back memories of queuing on a Friday tea time, the fish and chips looks amazing as well !!

Can't give this any less than a solid 10/10. My only gripe is the curry sauce. It doesn't belong in a traditional chippy. It'd be like going to Naples for a traditional pizza, and asking whether they do Hawaiian pizzas. They'd chase you out with their rolling pins! Haha.
The crowd doesn't lie. I'd go to the ends of the Earth to get to that shop.
Great review. More of these traditional and nostalgic places please, Lee.
    Another brilliant upload. Great work.

Nice to still see people in the sticks still honoring 2m distancing, that place reminds me of a chippy from my childhood. It was in a tiny village outside of Sheffield called Marsh Lane by Ecclesfield. Oh for the good old days when a fish & chip lot used to cost about 45 - 50p. M

it's like the way you like your eggs fried the way you want and skin on your fish, easy tell them how you want your eggs cooked and to take the skin taken off the fish that ,that will stop you moaning 😅according to your mate JR on one of his vlogs the skin contains the omega 3 and keeps the fish moist when cooking 👍

Been a few times ,they are lovely you are right about the batter , I love their scraps ,all the hurray henries on Saturday turn up ,it’s like a Range Rover car park ,60 mile drive or 120 return but worth every penny ,who remembers taking your newspapers to the chippy and when I was young my local chip shop in Sunderland actually had a block of rock salt ,plus there it’s fun when put the coal in ,evocative beautiful smell we used to have a coal fired range 3ovens ,a kettle plate that went over the fire and a back boiler hundred weight of coal for 5inches of bath water with the old cold tar soap happy days getting dried in front of the fire.

When I was a kid, I'm 54 now, my aunty, nan, and other nan, all had coal fires!!! The smell of the burning coal, especially in autumn/early winter was beautiful!! I know all that smoke is bad, but whenever I get a whiff of coal burning, it takes me back, brings a tear to the eye!!!!. Also,.making toast on an open fire, amazing!!!!!

I'm going to be honest here Lee but I like the skin on fish and I'm a yorkshire man. Any fish and chip shop still cooking with beef dripping is always worth a visit, as we are finding out there becoming extinct sadly. Doesn't taste the same with veggie oil. They looked amazing . As for the green bits in the curry sauce some contain apple or soya?. Great video mate. 👍

Hey Lee. Looks a pretty good place, no wonder you might need camping chairs to queue up there. I agree with the others on here. Oh man! Lee you are tormenting me!
We had a village chipper like that in the 70s!
Range was coal fired & everything was cooked in dripping too!
My dad used to help the man unload the big blocks of dripping off his van & got a bag of chips and a lift home in return!
Oh and I remember the old guy always smoked his pipe while he cooked the fish and chips!
A real trip back in time there Lee, thank you!👍👏👏👏😊

    Solid 10 from me.
A traditional chippy sticking to tradition and not bowing to public pressure and using alternatives to beef dripping simply because a few ethnic minorities and vegans are offended will always get my vote.
What a difference from your previous award winning chippy......told you cod is best 😂
Their mushy peas actually looked like peas not paste and the mysterious green in your curry sauce.....peppers or chili possibly ?
I think you've inspired me with this one to actually go check it out , cheers fella 👍

What a truly authentic little gem, and so represtative of a time gone by that it should get some prestigious heritage status, it's practically a museum.
Now then lee, I'm sure like thousands of others I was shouting "Why didn't you ask if its skin on when you ordered instead of complaining after when your eating it!, like you do all the time!!", you did address this later in the vlog though. Great Vlog Lee, one of your best. It made me feel all nostalgic and proud of our county.

Where I come from haddock *always* has skin on. I’ve never ever had one that doesn’t have the skin, and because I’m used to it I think I’d be pretty disappointed if I got one without it. It doesn’t exactly change the taste and I’ve always thought it must have some nutrients in it. On the other hand cod here never has the skin on.

As soon as I saw the fish and chips they were turning out in your B roll, I thought ‘that reminds me of the fish and chips we used to get at the local chippy in Longbridge in Birmingham where I grew up’. I like skin on fish but when it’s grilled to a crisp and not battered. I wondered if the green stuff in the curry sauce might be methi/fenugreek leaves. They transform any curry! Top place and I loved the fryer set up. Must go before they can’t get coal any longer.

That gets a 10 from me. The last time I had fish and chips cooked in beef fat was about 20 years ago in Oulton Broad near Lowestoft absolutely incredibly tasty, the fat seems to line the roof of your mouth but obviously not good for you health wise. A proper chippy, I can see why folk would be willing to queue, everything looked really nice.
On another note Lee, if you ever find yourself in Nottingham city centre check out 'Wing Spot' It's in Trinty Square and occupies an old Pizza Hut property. As the name suggests, it does chicken wings, boneless and on the bone and has a great selection of sauces, and the best fries I have had in a longtime. My better half and I found it yesterday after leaving the cinema and went in to eat (you can takeway as well) I had 10 wings (5 with Atomic sauce (Hot!!) and 5 with Korean sauce) and Michelle had 10 boneless pieces with hickory sauce, we shared a large fries and both had an unlimited soft drink and the whole lot came to £27.00, staff were great and place was nice and clean......I realise this sounds like an ad for the place, but I assure you I am not connected to it in any way shape or form, just assumed you are always on the look out for places to visit and review so thought I'd mention it...Cheers.

Fish and chip shops should take note of this video and go back to cooking in beef dripping. In my experience fish and chips cooked in oil has no taste. This video reminds me of my childhood about 60 years ago before it was all destroyed. It actually brought tears to my eyes. If anyone knows of fish shops anywhere in Britain, north or south that still use beef dripping, post it on here or better still Macmaster could make videos of them. I don’t mind the skin so 10/10 from me.

It's said that using fresh fish you have to leave the skin on, reason being it falls apart when handling.

Beamish Open Air Museum also have 2 coal powered fish shops done in beef dripping. However be ready to remortgage house to fund your purchase. But totally off the charts.

You must visit Beamish museum Durham and try Davy’s fried fish and chip shop, were they are fried in two beautiful coal-fired ranges in real beef dripping, then wrapped in specially printed newspaper. Apart from the chippy, the living museum is a must to visit anyway. Dave

It would be a ten for me. I love the skin, but I have never understood the curry sauce thing. There you go, thankfully we are all different and that makes for wonderful England. Would have liked a mug of Yorkshire tea with mine, perfect.

Already mentioned, but 'Daveys' Fish and Chip shop in Beamish open air museum also cook on coal fired stoves with beef dripping. Really nice fish (they call it 'Dab') and Chips from there, but the queues are always huge for the chips at Beamish, and of course you have to pay to get into the museum first.

10/10 wow love the look of everything properly cooked brown chips, which is a bonus, chunks of cod and love Ben Shaws Shandy haven't had that for a while. Don't mind the skin on, it holds the fish together while it's cooking. Enjoyed the vlog as always. Stay safe!!

oh yes, a can of shandy, that takes me back! Not had one in years and years! Glad that place is still running, any idea why they only open such limited hours? Looks like they could make a killing if they opened a bit more!!

It's got to be a 10 . Any chippy that remains that Faithfull to being a good old fashioned chippy deserves a 10 . And dare I say it, served by good old fashioned English owners . No kebabs pizzas ,chuffin just eat orders,or phones ringing etc . Non of that garbage . Just fish chips peas sausage ,minimal menu!! . Ace!!

Lee, that was a great vid. Brought a smile to my face, makes me happy - your love for a good fish and chip is infectious!! Its Fryday and I'm going for some in a couple of hours, can't wait now after watching that. 10/10 for me; I love skin on fried fish cos it makes it real 'fishy'. Keep at it my friend.👏

Certain parts of country leave skin on. It's personal preference but don't think you should have marked it down

Traditional f&c done properly, tho I too balk at skin-on even if it is nutritionally beneficial (apparently🤤) Chips looked amazing and bursting with flavour too, 9.99/10!!
