of course wifi is dangerous, pretty much any wireless connection is susceptible to hijacking, blocking, etc. strangers can grab your personal info from thin air if you connect to the wrong open network, for example.
great video there is a lot of great information here. However there are a few things i want to mention. First, the GHz to THz analogy is flawed. yes, a light bulb emits more radiation per unit of time than a WiFi router but the hazard of WiFi comes not from the 'brute force' (wattage) but from the penetrating power of the signal. as you mentioned water resonates at 2.4 GHz and since we are 70% water that can be a problem in the real world. The thought experiment that was setup was one single antenna router in a house with no neighbors. However, we live in the real world and most people live in apartments/condos with many neighbors that have multi antenna routers. (look up MIMO) a trick many WiFi device manufactures use to skirt the FCC wattage regulations is they only measure the output power at a un specified distance from the antennathe antenna. Eg, router is rated to broadcast at 100mw of power @ 10ft but, in reality broadcasts 400mw @ 10Ft because of having 4 antennas. The 802.11 A/B/G networks usually are rated at 100-200mw, 802.11 N usually broadcasts at 150 to 250 mw and 802.11AC broadcasts at up to 1000 mw (1 watt). Since manufactures are motivated by money and happy customers = higher profits they will sometimes rate a routers power at 5,10,15, or even 20ft and and call the level of transmitted radiation they measure the maximum rated power of the router. this is called the effective radiated power (wattage) aka ERP, this is not a true measure of power. the true measure of power is the transmitter output power (TOP) which is measured at the location where the antenna connects to the transmitter. going in to the gory details of antenna theory requires a understanding of college physics and calc 2+3. and one more thing, when you mentioned about low level radiation being less harmful than higher doses is the time constant. how large is the dose * the period of exposure. the reason we think small doses are not harmful is because our bodies are able to repair the damage being done before there is a issue. in parting keep this in mind, exposure at 100mw per hr for 100hr (1 week) is the same as being exposed to 10 watts for 1hr. i say this because 99% of WiFi users leave the WiFi on 24/7/365 untill the router dies. I am CompTIA A+, Net+, and security+ certified. as well as being a general class certified HAM radio operator.
Rusty Blader Eh, not true. Like smoking, it could be killing us very slowly. I'm not saying it is, I'm saying what if. Back then, they thought smoking was safe too.
At this time only weakened people will be in danger , baby's and old ! study it back to the 1960's in gov documentation and you will see what they are doing today!
The larger the wavelength the more biologically stable it is. The smaller the wavelength the more harmful it is. The shorter waves rip apart DNA materials and causes cell damage/mutation. The type of frequency of nukes, radon gas, etc. WiFi uses Radio Frequency waves, EMF. The level of EMF is very high and can harm biological growth. I recommend you look up the plant WiFi experiment. In the plants, you can clearly see deterioration in itself based on how close or far away it is from the EMF omission. (Cell towers, cell phones, WiFi routers)
I live in a small apartment and my infant son has his playpen near our WiFi router about two feet away, is that safe? Watching your video I’m pretty sure it is but I need some reassurance so I know I’m not putting him in harms way.
It should be noted that in Verizons own official pamphlet it labels all forms of RF, whether wifi or cellular as pollutants. Question, what is a pollutant?
Thank you for explaining it to someone who has no idea and context as there is heaps of negative vids about Wifi and 5G with meters measuring the output which goes of the dial to materials to block it.
This video is great. I heard of stories of wifi and cellular technology being dangrous. This video really explained how it is not harmful at all. Thanks for the video.
phonepower mobile technically it is. You'll need to spend about 90% of your life being constantly bombarded by 5ghz WiFi communication to notice *anything,* and by then you'll be deteriorating anyways.
Yes but it was a load of rubbish. A light globe is safe so wifi must be safe because they are all radiation, hmmmm. Thats like saying all salt is bad or all fat is bad . Just not true .Also he only compared the heating effects and did not mention the electromagnetic effects on humans of wifi
I literally just gave this explanation on a thread on Facebook. I can see how confusing it can be for someone who didn't really grasp physics properly at school but education doesn't work equally well for everyone..
Yes it's similar to the placebo effect but in a negative way if you made a person think he has a allergy from let's say honey they will start to feel sick after eating something that they know has honey but they must know it has honey if they don't it would not take effect
Bluetooth is even less power than a router. It's barely enough power to get from one side of the room to the other side. It's not enough radio-frequency (RF) power to warm up anything at all.
Even your phone or pc that you use it to watch this video is using the light that using hundred of terahertz(when you increase brightness) for weeks or years and you still feel nothing.
Can WIFI affect pacemakers? Devices that Can Interfere with Pacemakers Wireless internet, mobile phones and modern security systems bring about new areas of risk. ... They produce a frequency that may interact with your pacemaker, but short exposure shouldn't trigger any adverse effects.
Its also important to note that "radiation" is a generic scientific term for any type of energy that radiates. Every form of energy can be said to radiate and this term should not be confused with nuclear radiation which is a very specific kind of energy and can be deadly. Radio waves and light waves are often referred to as radiation and there is nothing in common between that and nuclear radiation. But people who want to make sensationalistic claims will often ignore the difference. The misinformed will often accidentally or purposefully confuse the two just to have something scary to claim. The only similarity between nuclear radiation and the other forms of energy called radiation is that just like the cosmic background radiation, there is also a tiny background amount of nuclear radiation that we are all exposed to every day. It doesn't matter how close you live to a nuclear plant, its everywhere. If you have granite countertops, you likely have a higher dose of trace radiation than someone who does not since granite counterrtops are a known source of trace (low does) nuclear radiation.
Finally! Someone who made a proper video about the subject. Im one of those people trying to explain the lock and key principle of ionizing radiation - for which the minimum is UV light. AND NOW WE HAVE A GOOD AND ACCURATE VIDEO FOR IT! You are gold, man! :D
Hi ThioJoe. I liked your logic, but I think it is incomplete. I have a university degree in Computing & Electrical Engineering. I mention this purely so you might reflect, prior to dismissing my comments as uneducated, crackpot. While I think you covered the common uneducated fear associated with this technology, analyzing the Man - Machine interface is often more complex than looking at one or two dimensions. Personally I get headaches when using Cordless Phones that transmit at 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz. I'm OK if the phone is only 900MHz. Same with mobile (cell) phones. The effect is worst when inside cars & lifts (I assume this is due to a partial Faraday cage). The headache starts 2 to 5 mins after I start using them & stops ~5 - 10 mins later. Wifi Routers do not affect me, likely they are lower wattage & further away from me. I realise that your talk is focused on WiFi, however your logic is applicable to phone transmission as well. So you might be interested. The two dimensions you might like to consider are distance & harmonics. No doubt you are aware that the signal strength is inversely proportional to distance squared. The Phones only impact me if they are broadcasting less than 3 feet from my head. As energy increases with frequency, your logic that higher frequency can "do more damage" is well proven. However frequency is only one dimension that needs to be examined when considering impact on biology. Harmonics are another. You only need to look at antenna design to see that the energy absorbed (standing waves) are much greater when the size of an item is optimized for the frequency of the transmission. Similarly certain molecules (ie: water) will respond to specific frequencies, while remaining comparatively unaffected by frequencies above & below it. Research shows that phone use can raise the temperature of your brain slightly. Perhaps some people are sensitive to this. Maybe this changes the blood circulation in the scalp. or perhaps influences the nerves to cause scalp muscles to contract. Who knows. I have no idea why millions of people use mobile phones without issue, yet a tiny percent of the population are extremely sensitive to RF. Yet they do exist. No doubt one day we will understand the reason. As a precedent, Consider how our opinion changed when doctors discovered Mammalian meat allergy. Everyone believed that millions of people eat meat. So only wack jobs claim to get sick eating meat. Especially if they've been OK eating it all their life. But some people "suddenly" became allergic to meat. It took a dedicated doctor to discover that a) their sickness was due to being allergic to meat. & b) The allergic response was due to being bitten a tick with specific protein markers in its saliva. Thus I'd encourage you to look for the edge cases. As any computer programmer will tell you, understanding "the unlikely exceptions" are often where the greatest insights occur.
Not that I agree or disagree with your statement, but there are studies that have proven that there is some effect on the human brain within a spectrum of bandwidth. So even though you made it clear what your position is and I respect that, there is always going to be talk, discussion, study or argument on this topic. Though personally in my small personal office, I have both a wi-fi router that is fairly massive in terms of its coverage, far beyond what is needed for a small home in Taiwan to an almost reachable signal several floors below the 7th floor lol and I sit pretty much right next to it. If it is effecting me, than I am not really aware of it, but on the other hand, who knows. I also have my PC hardwired from the providers router, simply because I do not have a wi-fi option on my PC and I also get the full 100M access for my needs. I have wi-fi for my iMac, macbooks, phones and tablets when not being in the office.
andrew fitzgerald lol i actually know a buddie who lives near a wifi tower, says it's fine. Birds love the tower to since they can sit on it :D so pretty lit. Especially with fast speed
You sir are promoting the view of the industry, which fails to take into account non-thermal effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Many researchers have been finding a myriad of negative effects on the human biology/physiology from low emitting frequencies well below industry safety standards. What many fail to understand is that our cells do not communicate for the most part via chemical reactions, fast communication is done through the use of specific frequencies. This is why in the literature you find certain frequencies have health benefits (e.g. can accelerate tissue repair). The question that scientists (not in the US because we are bought out by big industry) have started to answer is if the frequencies from wireless communication devices (cell phone towers, wifi routers, cell phones, etc.) cause harm to humans. The answer from NON-INDUSTRY sponsored studies is a resounding yes, they do cause many detrimental biological effects. You also left out that most wireless communication devices communicate via pulsed EMFs, which have been shown to carry more health risks compared to non-pulsed EMFs. For better information from actual SCIENTISTS I would recommend looking up Martin Pall, PhD, Martin Blank, PhD, Olle Johansson PhD. If you actually want to see what the research has to say go directly to the sources of information. Stop listening to this third party resource who clearly needs to integrate his knowledge of physics with how the human body functions.
Can you link to any of these negative effects? Also, cells can't produce low frequencies, they literally do communicate via chemicals. The only way certain frequencies will benefit you is to maybe ease you to sleep. Also, can you please link to ANY of these studies rather than just saying "many scientists say this"? Also I think Martin Pall has been charged for quite a few things.
@@sethadkins546 I gave you the name of the scientists. If you wish to look at the harmful effects found you can simply go to Google Scholar or Pubmed and find the studies. I am not going to do your homework for you or engage in long arguments. This is not a place to write a dissertation. A good book with through citations is by Robert Becker PhD called "The Body Electric". His student, Andrew Morino PhD also has books and articles finding harmful effects. Thinking and knowing are two different things in regards to Dr. Pall. If you are going to disregard him please have solid evidence to share. His theories have been under scrutiny, but not his character. Please refer to the other scientists I listed if he is unsatisfactory. In any area of research, theories and ideas will fail. Yet, if you care to do your own investigation you will find harmful effects well below industry standards for many things, not just cell phones. I wrote my comment to pass along information, not to write an article thoroughly fleshing out all arguments/points of view. If you want that you will have to do it yourself. Best of luck. JMJ
This is actually quite reassuring. Yeah, I can't eat microwaved food. It gives me stomach aches for some reason. I'm highly sensitive, so it could be that.
Neil Tyson's "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry" learned me that the Cosmic Microwave Background wasn't present until a few years, give or take 400,000 years, after the big bang. Good book for my level of I.Q. (Neil's awesome). So it's been around forever minus 400,000 years. Let's not forget about background ionizing radiation here on Earth or even worse Radon in an enclosed home or building. I'm way more concerned about those sources than my in-home wifi. Great Video.
Hi, Thio Joe: you could also have mentioned the megawatts that we are exposed to from UHF television transmitters. If this radiation were so dangerous, we would all have died years ago!
I've never heard anyone claim WiFi was unsafe in the way you brought up the topic. Microwave Ovens, yes I've heard radiation warnings about (especially if they leak), but not wireless communications.
You're going to have to do better than addressing the thermal and ionizing properties of EMF, because those who are genuinely concerned about it are bringing up entirely different points (purposely side-stepping the thermal and ionization aspects). In other words, you're not responding to what people are actually saying about it.
I'm from Nigeria, lived in Nigeria literally upto this very moment lol,but I'm like a Tech god when i speak and do things because of Thiojoe, thanks man. People just don't understand things the way they're supposed to, I've had a few questions in mind tho but I'm sure you'll explain it someday.
Please can you explain why the city of Brussels has blocked 5G over radiation concerns? I totally agree with everything you are saying because I am from an engineering background but you are talking short term. Smoking on a short term is not as harmful compared to smoking on a long term. Long term studies has shown that it can be possible for a person to suffer after being exposed for a long period of time. Children are mostly at risk because they are still growing.
My dad said that if i play on my phone wireless wifi and not on pc wired internet connection i will get cancer, and i have heard that cancer changes the brain or something idk man idk what to do I have lots of fears like that...
for everyone watching this video in day to day use Radio waves are not harmful but if you jump any fences or boundaries that say danger RF you can(still not likely unless you just stand there) receive internal burns. I only bring this up when he says "...Radio waves... is not harmful at all.." is false and it just bothers me.
ThioJoe, I really like your videos. I have found them very helpful. However, I believe you missed the mark on this one. Google cres seed failed to germinate under WiFi. Also Google WiFi animal blood brain barrier. Where WiFi affected animal blood brain barrier. Please consider this and consider removing this an the other video.
Every time someone tells me not to stand close to the microwave because cancer risks, I let them know to stay away from light since it's higher up in the frequency chart that micro-waves.
Light is destructive. I mean...all one has to do is take a look at the piles of white dust that are the result of my mother's wrath... Joe, I will never understand why people always say to fear the dark... It is pure light that is the truest assassin...
microwaves cause water molecules to move rapidly and friction between them (and other polar molecules) not vibration.. which is less dangerous than IR radiation that leads to vibration

of course wifi is dangerous, pretty much any wireless connection is susceptible to hijacking, blocking, etc. strangers can grab your personal info from thin air if you connect to the wrong open network, for example.
great video there is a lot of great information here.
If wifi was dangerous we would already be dead lmao

(Cell towers, cell phones, WiFi routers)
but why u no care about regular light its way smaller
Wifi is not dangerous but high ping is

I live in a small apartment and my infant son has his playpen near our WiFi router about two feet away, is that safe? Watching your video I’m pretty sure it is but I need some reassurance so I know I’m not putting him in harms way.

And we all know that RF is totally harmless
Wi-Fi can't hurt us only if it's open Wi-Fi that people are using stealing your data but mostly you're safe don't worry when you have your home Wi-Fi
A photon of infrared radiation coming from a baked potato has 1 million times more energy than a photon of microwave radiation.
Let's be serious over here im poor. I don't have a house. So I don't own a WiFi. I don't even have electricity.

But why some people say that they "feel" wireless?
Is that a placebo effect or something?
They are wrong. Unless it's some other side effect like buzzing sounds from defective electronics or something.
Yes it's similar to the placebo effect but in a negative way if you made a person think he has a allergy from let's say honey they will start to feel sick after eating something that they know has honey but they must know it has honey if they don't it would not take effect
Thanks for the video, man. Same goes for bluetooth, right?
Yep
Thanks!
I really wished there would be a BT class 1.5, as the class 2 "10 meter" often won't penetrate the wall when I walk into my kitchen.
johanponken don't worry, BT 5 will sort that out.
Bluetooth is even less power than a router. It's barely enough power to get from one side of the room to the other side. It's not enough radio-frequency (RF) power to warm up anything at all.
Honestly, I'm impressed on how in depth you got in this. Great thorough explanation :)

Valid in India or not

Thank you!
This video is great. I watched the original when it released on ThioJoeTech, and I appreciate you making a new one for the wider audience.

Thank you!
JMJ
