Fontecchio is a hooper. He averaged 20 points per game at the Olympics and Eurobasket. To give a comparison, Schroeder and Wagner averaged less points than him. It's up to the Jazz to use him properly.
Fontecchio is a good player but the ppg comparison is not very useful. Simone is the main focus of Italy. Germany is a true TEAM. He can be a solid 7-8 rotation player in the nba on a contender or a starter for a non playoff team. Simone is a good all around player.
You are underestimating Italy big time. Italy whooped Germany with double digit gap at the 2021 Olympics, Italy reached the top 5 at the Olympics and top 8 at both the Eurobasket and WC. Italy also has been a much much more successful national team than Germany throughout the decades. Top class players like Niccolo Melli Danilo Gallinari Nico Mannion Simone Fontecchio Marco Belinelli (just to mention a few) are all Italians @@MeatBall_Don_Lie
I'm Italian, so I hoped and I knew he could have been a good player in the NBA, and I'm really happy that he's showing his talent and his hard work attitude
I had completely written him off on being able to ever do anything but shoot until he got the starting spot for a couple games. I think the defensive effort he’s shown is something we need a lot more of. I also like the flashes of three level scoring we’ve seen from him. Great video as always man
To add to this another thing I like is that he just seems like a team oriented smart and unselfish role player. Those guys will always have value in the league
The easiest way to put it is that he's a professional. You always have to appreciate a guy that keeps his mouth closed, gives extra effort on defense against players clearly more athletic than him, and can finish plays and help the assist numbers look nice.
As an Italian, I was and am convinced that Fontecchio has the qualities to stay in the NBA and last year when he played little it was a shame. Especially after what he had done in the national team at the Europeans and world championship. As well as in the Euroleague which is an excellent league that cannot be snubbed
Simone also had injury last year and got bone spurs removed on the offseason because of it. He had shot the ball better before the injury (although in limited amount of games) than he did the whole season after that. But it clearly did affect his movements on the court.
Fontecchio shows how much luck and confidence play a big part in the success in the NBA: if given the oppurtunity he showed that he can stay in the NBA, barring injuries, I se a 3 year deal, fivish per year range, maybe with a team option.
Great analysis, I hope Simone will keep improving and get another video from you! I see that this video brought you a lot of love from Italy, well deserved!
Thank you sir, I actually followed this video with another one for him. Part 3 will have to wait unfortunately because he has found himself in a shooting slump at the moment but we still have another half of the season to go
This video was made 1 month ago, so you cannot be blamed for not having highlighted that Utah, with Fontecchio starting, is going really well.....kind of the 1st team in the league in the last weeks, with some impressive wins against the strongest teams in the league. Either coincidence or a positive impact that stats are not able to express. Good idea to make such a video not about the usual players. As italian I cheer for a good career for Simone; I think he can do better with the time, not excluding he could reach quite a high level, kind of 18-20 ppg and a solid presence in the starting 5. His game fits with league's standards of nowadays
Gonna be honest Simone getting 4 blocks in a game was something I NEVER expected. Simone being bad against Minnesota is likely more due to the T wolves being the best defense in the entire league, they make everyone shoot bad.
Simone is a great value for what he brings to the table at 3mil a year. So is Dunn less than 2 mil a year same with Ochai at 4 mil. Contrast that with Clarkson at 23 mil per, Sexton at 17 mil per and Tucker at 10 mil per and Olynyk at 12 mil per. So if your bench production is similar I’ll take a bench of Simone, Dunn and Ogbaji at 9 million a year vs the other 4 guys at 62 million that’s a hard pill to swallow
It hard to argue against cheap upside, even with the salary cap continuing to go up, a penny saved is a penny earned, and these guys are saving a lot of money
nice video, Simone fontecchio is a real hooper, in italy we are very happy that he play like 20 minutes for game because he deserved it. He carried italy in internazional competition and he's our best player
@@wraithhoops it is very close to "See-moe-nay" , but the correct pronunciation is not easy to get for a native american/english speaker, and the surname Fontecchio is even harder but you pronounced it almost perfectly, so very good job 👌
@@wraithhoops See-moe-nay is the right way. It's tricky for Americans cause Simone with the silent e is a name for women over there I guess. Anyway, with the pronunciation above you'll be really close to the Italian one 👌
I guess he can start when there is injuries. I mean, when he hit threes he may be good in some games. But your take is corect, his sealing is not much higher what we have seen now. Maybe he is in rotation when Lauri come back but nothing more. What i like abt him most is that i never seen him compain to teammates. He dont complain much refs either. That is rare in todays nba.
i stumbled upon this video while binge watching nba videos and being italian the algorithm chose this. this is a good video, i enjoyed it and it was a good commentary. BUT my mind was fixed on the L light like it's L but it's light that got me brainwashed
Defense will always be that thing that doesn't come up in the statistics. It doesn't matter if he's got below 1 pg in steals and blocks. What matters is the amount of missed shots players he defends make. Coahes know, and that's why he's starting.
Good video. Comparing different seasons "per 32 minutes" stats would tell more, than "per game" stats. But sadly that isn't the norm, even for low minutes players.
You do raise a good point. I considered it, but also having his shooting splits from last year in mind it kinda felt like it would do him a bit of disservice compared to this season considering the type of minutes he’s getting overall and lack of injury which naturally would make him appear better. You can bet I’ll start adding the per 32mins to my vids going forward
You can’t teach effort and that’s why he lasts and has positive box score +/- metrics even when he has games like last night where he didn’t even score. You can’t make people try, they just have to have it and he has it
Just a shooting slump, defensively he's still on par and he's a net positive on the court, so I'd say within the next 4ish games he gets back with a solid 44-47% shooting night going maybe 2-5 from 3pt range.
