This is amazing. My father spent several years of his time in the Air Force doing the maintenance and repair of these DEW line sites early 70's to 78 or 79. As a kid I couldn't have imagined what they looked like. Thank you for such an awesome look into his world.
Hello, I arrived as a DEWLine Radar Comm Technician (Radican) at Aux station POW-1 in April 1967. Station was about 75 miles east of Point Barrow and had a call sign of Lonely Alaska. About 8 months later, since I had been trained as a CRYPTO Custodian I was transferred to PIN Main, Cape Perry NWT Canada. About year after that I was reassigned to POW Main at Barrow Alaska as the lead Radican/CRYPTO Custodian. The FAA opened a Flight Service Station and activated navigation facilities. I was hired by the FAA as an Airways Facilities Technician at Barrow in December 1974. I now live in southwest Florida after spending about 28 years in Alaska, off and on. Think I'm still thawing out.
my father told us he was a Sector Superintendent at Point Barrow in the early sixties. His name was Dave Jackson USN ret. If you have any info about him out family would love to know about it. He became estranged from us in the early70's so details about his life are sketchy. I am working on filling in blanks for the edification of grand kids. Thanks

I flew workers to and from Cape Newenham and Cape Romanzof in the early 1990’s for Yule Air Alaska. Was based in Bethel.
20 years on the line makes me wonder how you survive back in the cities and the heat.
I take it those were family members who got to visit?
Too much crappy music. Not interested in that!
