My husband, Johnny Bastable, the banjo player in the Colyer Band, was made "musical adviser" on this film because an actor took the part of the banjoist! So my husband doesn't actually appear. Shame because he was with Ken Colyer for many years, as part of the "classic lineup".
Hi June! I don't think I met you, but certainly knew your husband. He was one of my jazz heroes on banjo. The other was Donegan, but I gave up on him when he went too commercial and started playing tripe (around the time he left Chris Barber) so that just left your husband, my favourite jazz banjo player of all time. A disgrace he wasn't in this clip! I can't imagine a Twist being played in Studio 51. I remember during a gig in Norwich a girl came up to Ken and asked him to play a Twist. He answered, "We'll play the music, dear, and you can do what the f*** you like!" Black Jake of Norwich.
I was a regular visitor to Studio 51 in the early to mid 1960s and remember the Downliners Sect playing on a few occasions - good group! As a poor student studying in Tech College in Walthamstow I was lucky enough to have Mick Jagger buy me a drink in the club whilst the Rolling Stones performed one of their first gigs there. I bumped into MIck again in January 1989 in Basils Bar Mustique celebrating my wife's birthday and I reminded him of this kindness as we both went on to build villas in that part of the Caribbean and shared the same architect Mario Spinellia Happy days
So sad to see a notice on the door when Terry (Clemson) and I last visited our old haunt a few months ago that it was now being used as an electrical sub station. I wonder what happened to Pat and Vi and also the wonderful photos that covered the walls. We hope they were not just ripped down and thrown away, but I expect that's what happened. All those memories that we would love to have kept of the Downliners Sect, The Stones, Ray & Emmett, Long John Baldry, and all the other wonderful musicians of that era in the 60's have now gone for ever - very sad.
Don't remember seeing any of these guys on my numerous visits in the late 50s! Except the trumpeter and bass player, that is....................... Happy days.
This is great - the first footage I've seen of people actually inside Studio 51, apart from the artists, especially the Downliners Sect and Ray & Emmett, who are friends of mine !!!
Long john baldry and the Stones used to do turns in the intervals at the all night sessions, also two musicians ( The Alberts ?) who had all manner of weird obscure instuments in a big suitcase.

Hi June, maybe you knew Vi Hyland- she was still at Studio 51 in the 80's running a dance studio I used to go to - I would love to know more about her
Can you tell me what the name of the film was JuneBee55 ?

Jim Bray with the double bass but can't recognise anyone else.
@@johnrose7491 I think it was Ron Ward on bass !!
Just watched the film - West 11 - directed by Michael Winner.

This is a mock up set for a movie - not the real thing

In this club, Lennon and Paul met the Stones and gave them " I wanna be your man"
