First game I ever got for the PC Engine. This port was just amazing, I know many character graphics are different and all, but who cares? This was the most accurate port out there back in the day, with the Amiga version as a close second. The Master System version was a nasty hack job in my opinion. It feels as if they didn't even try. The graphics and physics could have been nigh-identical, and no wonder the SMS version isn't so good, it's because Westone themselves didn't port it!
Arcade versions will always be superior. Also the PC Engine is a 16 bit console. Had this game been remastered for Megadrive, it would have been amazing. Dragon's Trap enlarged Wonder Boy's sprite making him look better.
Why would you want to go into that trouble for a console port that isn't even arcade perfect? You have an arcade perfect port on Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection. It's on PS2 so you can hook it up to a CRT tv too! Not too mention perfect ports of every other game in the series.
So this is a translated hack? Might want to make that more clear, someone might think the actual Turbografx/PCE library is more robust in English-friendly language than not, maybe even spend money on the game. And I'm pretty sure I get the idea, if Hardcoregaming101 is correct, that at this time Hudson owned quite a bit of both Wonder Boy and Adventure Island (I mean, they ported a Wonder Boy under their name Adventure Island, on PCE, for goodness sakes), so therefore it's not a ripoff or copy at all, just a port. They'd have more of a right to make the damn game than SEGA being recognized solely with it for fucks sake to whoever antagonizes this version.
"I mean, they ported a Wonder Boy under their name Adventure Island, on PCE, for goodness sakes" No they did NOT, why does everybody keep saying that? The original Wonder Boy was not ported to the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16, it was ported to the NES and changed to Adventure Island. Later there was a game released on the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 called New Adventure Island, but that is a different game.
Are there any other Consoles that this got re-released on? I know the Wii got Dragon's Curse (WBIII DT for PC enginge) on Eshop, but I would love to get this game.
Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection. Perfect version of every entry in the serie, and you can play it on a CRT tv for the most authentic experience if you want.
Excellent port, near-arcade graphics and sound, and arcade-perfect gameplay. A bit too many repeat bosses, but that's OK. The bosses alterations were allegedly made to shoehorn a different franchise into the gameplay.
@@iononsoleggere9065 Westone licensed the source code to Hudson, but Sega owned the copyright to the wonder boy characters, so Hudson had to change the characters for them to port the game legally since they only had the source code, same thing with adventure island on nes, Westone licensed the source code but Sega had the character copyright, so Hudson created master Higgins

@@Vinnay94 What are you talking about? This game is near arcade perfect.
I never like how you couldn’t move when you jumped and attack in the master system version
I love the PC Engine but I definitely prefer Wonderboy in Monsterland on Sega Master System
PC Engine version is better, especially graphics and music... but for some reason it couldn't have your character knock on doors or gates opening.
Just got a hold of this game after all these years for 3 euros! This game is great although I've never been very good at it.
Wonderboy 2 on PC Engine, great!
It's much cooler than the original Wonder Boy, really. Those stickers were awesome.
They're really different games, both great.
420 GOLD
It was perfect!
I suppose I prefer the Master System version out of nostalgia and actually being Wonder Boy, but this is closer to the arcade reskin notwithstanding.
I really want to find out how to hack PC Engine specifically to turn this back into Wonder Boy
Well, good luck with that lol

Not a ripoff, the source code was the same, it was just retooled to suit a different audience. Much like Doki Doki Panic/Mario 2
I always lose at the level 9 boss , thanks for showing me how it is done, and the game secrets and hidden places are too hard.
Best home version of this game, at least thats what I think. 2nd to this is the Sega Master System wonder boy in monster land
Nah get Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection on PS2. Arcade perfect port.
@@acharat6 that sounds interesting indeed...Im quite the Wonderboy fan...

Released alongside within J.J Jeff.

The japanse Adventure Island on PC Engine is a port of Wonder Boy III Dragon's Trap.
Wonder Boy and Monica no Castelo do Dragão...😂😂😂
dear world of longplays. do you know how I can use bombs or magic in this game. I tried everything but cant figure it out :(
Up on the d pad while simultaneously hitting the attack button./
@@sparkiemcdudles4045 cool. thank you very much
Your welcome 🙏
Nice video. The final stages are a little bit harsh.
Copy or not, it look as good as the original (Wonder Boy).
Why does he wear underpants on his head?
I can't unsee it now.

moon language
bi-curious man
I could list the locations of all the gold he missed, but my post would be too long
My work here is done. But YOU have to spend the rest of YOUR life defending the world. See ya!
This game seems cool :)
Well, goodbye!
wonder boy?
that's wonderboy in monster land ,and no,there wasn't any tricycle..
It should.

This reminds me a lot of an Amiga game with a little boy - Believe he could buy a tricycle to get around.
Mansen Magic Pockets?
Excelente!!
Master System is the best version because is easier.
so its basically a rip off of wonder boy..-_- with this bikkuriman guy,.,
No, the game was published by both SEGA and Hudson Soft (PCengine). Both of them have the rights to do so by owning the copyright of it.
