The best sura Yusuf ever recited by Abdul Basit is the one in Syria 1958 where he reads v23 (was qa lat hay ta lak) 5 different ways. ENORMOUS CROWD!!!!. MUST LISTEN TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed! That one is amazing 👌👌👌 but there are a few different recitations of surah Yusuf where they recited them verses in different riwayas. I think you mean the famous one

I heard this recital many many years ago and have been looking for it since and finally found it here. Jazaakumullaho khairan Umar 222 for posting this it is extremely beautiful. I wish he had recited like this more often in his career.

Muhkam ayahs can be understood by anyone who knows the arabic language, but Mutashabih ayahs need a ta'weel which the scholars who know the arabic language in depth and tafsir can do

Perhaps "Behold!" for "اذ" rather than putting "(Remember) when". If I'm not mistaken, "Idh" is meant to call something to attention as well as place it in a time-context, so it can either mean "Lo!"/"Behold!" or "When".

@bklynlitup salam brother, yes you are right, kowkab means planet and nujum means stars but you must remember that the sun is also called a great star and the planets shine like stars so it doesnt really matter because Allah (swt) is telling us about 11 heavenly bodies.

"Kawkab" means planets. "Najm" means stars.
@summerxrockon It's ture. Kawkab means planets. Write كوكب (kawkab) on google and check the images. It will show planets.

Subhanallah! Allah (SWT) used an Arabic cognate from Hebrew (or its predecessor) in order to recount Sayyiduna Yusuf's speach (aleihi assalam), for Kawkaban comes from the same root as the Hebrew Kochavim, in that the root-letters of both are "kaf", "kaf" ("kaf"/"khaf" in hebrew), and "ba" (or "bet"/"vet" in hebrew). It's difficult to explain why it may sound different in such a small post, but believe me akhi it's the same.

In this surat, god is using the word kawkabs. so if it was up to me to translate the verse I will use planets not stars!!!!

You are incorrect Umar.....nojoom means stars.....and somewhere there is " al nojoom wa alkwakeb"....so Kawakeb could not meen nojoon. Therefore, Kawakib must've meant planets not stars....

brother your translation of this is off. in verse 2 he says you all not you and verse 4 he doesn't say remember at all. I know you properly don't mean it in a wrong way but there are people who don't understand Arabic and might take what you wrote as the literal translation of the quran please but the direct translation to avoid any confusion my allah bless you

The entire translation is not so accurate I am afraid...If I translated it...I would do so like this:
In the name of Allah the most gracious the Most merciful...
1- Alf Lam Ra...these are the verses of the clear book...2- We have revealed it an Arabic Qur'an so you may gain knowledge and wisdom..3- We relay unto you (Mohammad) the best of the stories (the true version) of what we have revealed unto you of this Qur;an as you were one of those who had no knowledge before (the revelation)
