Looks like they are gelling as a team nicely. Veerman and Schouten did a job in midfield, but likely Frenkie will be missed when that midfield gets put under physical pressure. They’ve also got a big score to settle with France. Cant wait for that one!
you said it right...there is something there, but honestly, being Dutch, I am a bit at a loss to predict what they are capable off. Could go either way, disaster or glory
I think you will be shocked how well of a pairing those 'weak' CM's will be. Schouten en Veerman have been the psv championship midfield engine. I see the great player injuries as a blessing. Van Dijk will not be throwing any long balls at all. Schouten with brillianty simple and direct balls allways forward, whiles Veerman "the Dutch Kroos" with creative balls towards whomever is at the winger position. A big difference vs the old ajax system where every midfield pass would just be wide to maintain possesion above all.
Van Dijk going long with his passing isn't an insult at all, it's an effective way of getting the best out of his passing. I look forward to seeing this Dutch team in action
Every player can score. Holland , as always, the flavor of the tournament. And, as always, non dutch act surprised, they will never ever understand the power of dutch mind.
The Dutch are currently facing trouble with 8 players suffering from injuries, all of which would be (potentially for some) in the starting 11. Imo the biggest of these cases are Jurrien Timber and obviously FDJ. However, with FDJ's injury it did solve the age old question of 'who do we start next to FDJ?' There is no question about that this time around and that is quite nice for once as well. There is a stable block now that everybody knows will be playing and Veerman and Schouten compliment eachother very nicely. They know eachother very well too, obviously. Veerman also has a good connection with Dumfries, which is why I think Dumfries will be starting against at least Poland. I also think it can be a massive advantage that this team can seemingly play in 3 or 4 different ways depending on the LWB/RWB, wingers and who plays as a striker.
As a Barcelona supporter, Having seen Koeman as Barcelona manager, it seems this is his 3-4-3 that he used in Barcelona, where FDJ was the Libero and Busquets was the halfback. The thing is this Dutch is completely different, they got insane right wing backs and attacking players but Koeman is a subpar game manager, if his system gets found out, he literally gets frozen and can’t decipher and just throw mindless subs praying for individual talent. So knowing that his right center back is undetermined, and no FDJ, it’s going to be rough I think. Amazing analysis! Brilliant channel!
Very kind words mate, thankyou so much! Definitely a balance issue here. Part of me thinks there should be encouragement around Netherlands cause out of possession they look better than I thought they did under Van Gaal, but that midfield with the injuries is so weak on paper. You never know though
@@Zedders The tactics is very solid it’s designed to have a mid-block press that forces the balls to the wing and having a man-marked system, the key is individuality and balance. So you’re right, anything can happen, but knowing Koeman, he’s going to start Malen, or Frimpong because they might be favored and if they’re losing, he might sub off Gakpo for Weghorst and pray and swing in crosses. 😂 - from someone who saw in-form Pedri get subbed off for Lukk De Jong in the 87th minute game in La Liga, and narrowly won 2-1.
@BradleyGarzon yeah I completely get that, Koeman's time at Barca shower there is a definite ceiling to his management. Even in England he was class at Southampton, went to Everton with a bigger budget and more control on the club and the squad ended up a complete mess
@@Zedders This tactic is nothing like his Barcelona set up. And it was Barca that failed Koeman not the other way around. He did what he could with a club in a complete mess. Also Everton he did really well until he lost Lukaku and instead of management getting him a replacement, Giroud, they spent everything on 3 number 10s. Siggurdson. Rooney and Klaassen. I am not saying he is Gaurdiola levels however he gets way too much flack.
@Hyde_Hill people are always too black and white with management sometimes. It's not always a simple "is he good or not" there's so many nuance that goes into why some managers succeed and why some don't
Even with these tactics we still don’t know really who’s gonna start. Cause almost everyone can play multiple positions. And on paper Memphis is the striker but in fact he’s everywhere. It’s a very fluid squad this year and that’s what makes it unpredictable.
It actually becomes more of a diamond instead of a box in the attacking phase with Reijnders right, Simons central and Veerman left. At least when you go Dumfries/Frimpong and Simons. It becomes a box when we go Geertruida right back and Frimpong right wing. De Vrij most likely starts ahead of De Ligt. Also apart from Gullit, who we ignore, no one criticizes Van Dijk. Veerman is lethal with his passes over the defense. Out of possession sometimes Reijnders the (AM) moves right and Simons joins Depay central. Similar to what Deshamps/Emery does. Very happy someone finally giving Koeman and the Dutch some tactical respect. Pundits have been terrible in their assessment in general.
I did think after I made the video I didn't give enough credit to Veerman. Tbf anytime I hear a quite from Van Basten & Van der Vaart it always seems so negative 😂 thanks for the kind words mate. Have a lot of appreciation for Dutch football so it's nice praise!
@@Zedders Yeah a lot of our pundits we don't take seriously. The actual proper media are pretty decent though. They are generally either with the AD or VI.
Dutch media is indeed very harsh to players that play outside of their country. Fans are saying de ligt is worse than some eredivisie defenders too... If you play in our country suddenly you are the best player again. But yeah too harsh
Netherlands media is the worse they have been spoiled with players like V basten v persie sneijder robben rijkaard gullit they just nostalgic and miss the quality but this is what modern football is Xavi Simmons is the best (with potential) player we have
De Jong and Koopmeiners in with possibly Reijnders. Jurrien Timber is a miss but the Dutch have quality depth in that position so its not as much of a miss. But as you said, that midfield is gaping
@@Zedders Timber would have been tailor made for that RCB role, now it's about shoehorning De Vrij or De Ligt who aren't wide CB's or the much wiser option Geertruida
If everybody was fit the midfield would probably have been Frenkie de Jong next to either Schouten or Reijnders and Koopmeiners in front of them. Quinten Timber would be a very good option of the bench and Jurrien Timber would compete with Geertruida for that Right back/ Right Centre back spot.
@@Zedders Geertruida has shown to be too light weight atm for the RCB role. He is the alternative RB when we go Frimpong RW. De Vrij is class in the RCB role and covers the space really well. De Ligt also great just in a different way. Midfield plan was De Jong, Koopmeiners and Reijnders given the initial plan vs Iceland which was going to be the main 11. I am happy we are without Timber as he costs us goals due to his terrible areal ability when at RCB. Over a season he wins you more via his other skills. But in a tournament it's terrible.
The players the Dutch have produced and to only win a euro, is such a disappointment. Zirkzee has been called up; what impact you think he will have. Do you also think they can cope without FD and Koopmeiners? The team has talent, I don't trust Koeman; Van Gaal would do well with them.
Potentially could have a bit of an impact. Was surprised he wasn't in the full squad cause he'd work well within the system. Massive misses those 2, the drop off in quality between those 2 and I'll chuck Reijnders in there cause I think he's a bit of an underrated gem is steep, De Roon as well who's always been consistent for Dutch & Atalanta too shouldn't be forgotten
You also have to look at the players the Dutch haven't produced. They did self destruct on a few tournaments but also punched far above their weight often. There is simply not the width in depth in de squad coming from such a small population, there are always weak spots in the team. They always had to rely on players like Bruno Martens Indi, Arthur Numan, Kevin Hofland, and from the players that did get to a higher level than the Dutch league often already had to start games when they were still inexperienced young talents.
@@DenUitvreter We didn't punch above our weight. It is just that most of the past decade Oranje was below par, below our standards.. self destruction is not exclusively dutch. See the French in 2008 , 2010. Or the group dynamics of the England squad in the noughties ( John Terry !! a.o. )
Should have given them more time to speak about them but if I was to speak on every individual it would drag the length of the video to a length I wouldn't have liked. Good players though
I'll keep an eye on teams like that as the tournament begins mate, see who overpeforms and why. I'll do my best to distribute time to not just the big nations too
England vs Holland now...And your prediction has been proved right..

France have a level of unpredictability heading into this tournament as well so that game has all the potential to be a brilliant one!
Add Koopmeiners One of the best in its role

I think you underplay the Dutch flaws in midfield, now the big game against England and Koeman needs to make choices in that central midfield area...
How poor were the Dutch midfield last night, too much space for the English players to exploit..
@kailashpatel1706 yeah really poor. Similar to how it was against Austria
