Hi. I recorded the drums for a bunch of this L4D and L4D2 stuff and Team Fortress 2. For context: this "Horde" track was recorded in multiple sections stitched together. I played each pattern about 3-5 minutes each. Some were static and predictable patterns and some were more frenetic and random, and all were later assembled by the engineer (Noah Landis) to have a very chaotic feeling. It was recorded on two different setups of the same drums - one standard "drum kit" setup and another that was played with mallets with all floor toms and bass drums. (we did a similar setup for the first L4D) I don't remember getting blisters but it was many hours of recording time that day. We did this track and several others like "Skin of our Teeth" , "Gas Can of Victory", etc. The Midnight Riders songs were recorded at separate sessions.
I doubt so, for professional soundtracks a lot of times real instruments are used atleast for the samples. I also know an artists who was hired to record some instruments for the Dark Carnival Soundtrack
Tamás Versitz compared to what musicians actually practice this is pretty easy for all professional drummers. I mean this doesn't require much chops or knowledge of rudiments you just need to properly display the frantic feel through the drums

tienes razon bro, de hecho el soundtrack del L4D2 me gusta mas que el L4D1, ya que en el L4D1 la cancion de la horda es como muy aburrido pero no esta mal, pero en el L4D2 es algo que ni yo puedo explicar.

It's wierd, when you hear this track outside of the game it really doesn't sound fitting for a zombie horde. XD But I tell you, in game it sends your heart pounding!
Its probably the absence of everything else - Good games have parts that all work in unison for the best experience. That means some things sound really odd on their own. Like how you wouldnt eat most of the raw ingredients of cakes on their own.
@@zesty2023 I think the theme actually fits a zombie horde really well, especially when you remember that these aren't exactly typical zombies. L4D infected aren't shambling, slow corpses; they're violent, animalistic, frenzied. The music sounds so primal, which the infected *are*, I mean hell, they don't even eat or bite you when they surround you, they violently beat you to death. There's a constant rhythm (to keep you the player focused) that represents the overall horde, but it gets drowned out by chaotic, almost random sounding melodies, like the individual frantic zombies.
Noice.... I remember playing One Bad Tank and the Theme for guitar back in sixth grade aswell... L4D was the craze at my school and almost everyone who got steam would play daily same went for me
If you like that type of raw, drum songs, there's a band out there by the name of "Les Tambours du Bronx" who makes pretty much the same kind of stuff!
Smiggle Inc I guess you could say it was left for dead *badum- OH WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CANT DO THAT OH YOUR FINGERS ARE BROKEN WELL SHIT sorry lost my nervrd
Something I've across a lot of Valve games including this, Half-Life, Portal, TF2, is that the music, sound effects and sound design are just absolutley perfect.
Interesting how the instrument playing varied according to the campaign, fitting with the locations for each one, i.e. The Parish = trumpet, Dead Center = banjo.
