GREG SCARPA ASSIGNED HIT ON MAFIA BOSS - DID FBI SUPPORT MOB ASSASSINATION PLOT?

- Colombo Family Hitman and FBI Informant Greg "The Grim Reaper" Scarpa was tasked with killing an American Mafia Boss. FBI memos reveal this murder would benefit them.
This Mafia Documentary, shows how the line between Cosa Nostra and Law Enforcement could blur. Featuring Joe Profaci, J. Edgar Hoover, Joseph Magliocco, Tommy Lucchese, Joe Colombo, Carlo Gambino, Joe Bonanno.
I apologise in advance for butchering the pronunciation of MAGLIOCCO. I listened to a a couple of different versions, and still managed to mess it up a bit.
There’s honestly two different proper ways to pronounce it. At least here in the states you’ll hear both ways even from Italians
@@PrinceOfTheCity1 thanks pal. The version I was going with was how an Italian said it, but I still messed it up as I had more of an A sound than an O. I also kind of missed the subtle I sound.
Hahaha thanks pal!
@dab641128 thats the English way of spelling it. I kid you not. We use "s" where our American cousins use a "z" in many words.
@dab641128 haha not quite. Mainly on words like realise and organise etc.
Old man Profaci might've known how to split his enemies, however their true enemy in '61 had not shown his face..
you said it, Corrado

He never had the makings of a varsity athlete
"We're gonna win this THING!!!" 😂 most underrated line in the Sopranos.
Hahha I think the full history of the line was missed by quite a few.
@@OCSHORTZ Definitely. I am a huge fan of all this and I didn't even realize it until I randomly came across a book about it. I think it was DeVecchio's book. Not sure how I feel about that guy, seems like a scumbag. lol
@@forcemajeur.5138 I think he got away with it. That case imploding because of the statement by linda schiro to Capeci and Robins saved his ass in my opinion.
The line by Agent Harris in The Sopranos? Is that based on something that Lin DeVecchio said?
@@willmosse3684 yeh lol during the Colombo thing in the 90s. I mean he can honestly say, "he lived by the skin of his nuts back when the Colombos were going at it" 😂
They were trying to manoeuvre Scarpa into the boss position then they’d have a seat on the board
It’s how George Lucas got the idea in the Prequel Trilogy in which Supreme Chancellor Palpatine wanted to put his protege Anakin Skywalker on the Jedi Council. That way, Palpatine would know all of the Jedi Masters’ conversations and plans.
Hoover denied the mafia's existence because they had pictures of him and his boyfriend!
Yep, that's the alleged theory - and seems plausible.
That young man was his assistant and protégé!
No it’s because America’s ruling elite were allied to the National criminal syndicate and it was Hoovers job to manage the alliance.
@@joshb7300 like Joseph K.?
He was gay and had vids of him at a gay party thats why you dont here him saying anything back then. Thatz why bobby kennedy went nuts on the mob.
It’s hard to believe anything someone says while playing both sides, that goes for Scarpa and the FBI.

I've been reading up on Scarpa. He's definitely one of my favorite gangsters even though he was an informant, he used it to his advantage and still survived through 3 wars. He was even accused of being an informant, and STILL survived. The FBI Airtels are all online. I've been reading them.
Yeah they are fascinating reading
When I read about Scarpa interrogating a prominent KKK member to solve the triple homicide of 3 civil rights activists, and find out where their remains had been buried, I became a fan. Those Klan cocksuckers were so repugnant that organized criminals and the FBI were willing to collaborate with each other to hasten the demise of that KKK faction. Beautiful!
I knew Greg he was very bad guy

Another great vid OC Shortz, we cam always count on hearing stories nobody has told before or versions of famous stories that dispute the mainstream versions like the vid on who really carried out the Anastasia hit. That one was awesome, I was always suspicious when hearing that it was Crazy Joe and Persico. I've been really interested in hearing Angelo Brunos story as well as Russell Buffalino, especially after watching The Irishman and recently watched a video on Bonnanos cousin Magadino. In the video they claimed that Magadino was Boss over the Commission and ruled quietly and indiscreetly while everyone believed it was the NY families that had the power. Wonder if theres any facts to that claim, have you heard anything of that sort? Keep up the great work man
Thanks pal. That was a fantastic comment, greatly appreciated.

Gregory Scarpa was a very dangerous man. You don't get the name Grim Reaper for being boy scout.
Can't argue with that!
I’ve tried to think of any differences between the mafia and the government, and I’ve got nothing.
Good episode.
The Columbo family is my favourite family, they've given us so much Cosa nostra information....... s much drama and treachery.
Sooo much drama and treachery! You are 100% right!
😃
Never a dull moment in the Columbo Borgata!
@Russ Cooke Finding anything positive to say about Scarfo is tough but here it goes. He put the street tax on everybody who was sliding under Bruno. Made a ton of money. Then there was all the unnecessary hits and ...well, yeah, terrible Boss.
@Russ Cooke Your making a list of LCN serial killers.
Tommy Karate, now that's a Character. Under 24/7 surveillance and the Feds could not figure out how he was getting in and out of his house and doing business right under their noses. He did it by dressing like a Hasidic Jew and walking like an old Man.
James you should hear how people in America butcher easy words like mozzarella manicotti prosciutto and ricotta it's actually comical 😂😂
Great episode brother! I fully believe as well most if not all of Valachi’s later info was nothing but Scarpa’s
Thanks Bud. I tend to agree with you there pal to a certain extent.
A lot of it was also stuff from illegal wire taps. They couldn’t get it out there based on the taps, so they had Valachi say it.
Interesting, just watched documentary about Scarpa. Btw, what are your "Must have 5 Mafia books" you'd recommend? Thx.
These are just my personal choices for general overviews, rather than my own favourites - The Mob and they City by C. Alexander Hortis, Mafia Prince by Scott Burnstein, Five Families by Selwyn Raab, The Outfit by Gus Russo, The Sixth Family by Adrian Humphries and Lee Lamothe - I have loads of other recommendations which are more specific to certain subjects but these give great general overviews of the mob in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Montreal (Rizzutos).
I always wondered who got the most out of the relationship, Scarpa or the FBI? Then Mazza claims that the Persico's knew Greg was a C.I. All this made me wonder if Scarpa told Persico and they agreed what information to feed the Feds regarding Enemies etc.
Yeah it is a excellent question to discuss pal.
I doubt men like the Persico brothers/sons would have let that go on, especially as it would put them at risk with the Commission if it came out that they knew. I don't doubt that Larry mazza was told that "they knew it for years" but it was probably just a way to save face or make it seem like they had their finger on the pulse of the situation. You could be right though, I just doubt a guy like Carmine would have let that fly especially since the Colombo's seem to almost like taking their own guys out more than anything else lol.
@@forcemajeur.5138 That makes sense, but then if you told me Scarpa went to Miss. and killed a Guy to get info. for the Feds I would never believe you....but.
Maybe your right, just a move to save face, but with the Snake who knows?
I don’t believe he would ever discuss that with Persico. There is no way they would let him get away with that
@@Gestapo93 this is true lol.
Michael Franzese spoke on different times about guys in his family who had to kill their own father and became paranoid after it....could the story in your video be the murder he is talking about?

I would really like to see a feature film about Greg Scarpa's Life. This guy is as hardcore as they get, yes a Rat, but still can't deny seeing his life portrayed in a film.
Done well, it could be a superb film.
Just call it SCARPA. With how popular mob shit is becoming again I could see it do well.
Agreed fully! I’d love a movie about him and perhaps one about “little Nicky Scarfo”.
Their personalities and and stories are just so interesting. lol
@@OCSHORTZ you’d have to be on set. With as complex his life is nobody would be able to follow it. It’d have to be a huge tv series. They’d fvck that movie up so bad. They’d focus so hard on him going after the klan with today’s producers that it’d turn into “a hero’s journey for equality” 😄
It would be awsume, I find most movies these days a shit, if it was made by an Italian crew I think it would be good, the films and series they make are awesome,
I was close with 1 of lociceros grandsons(that side of the family)..he was a working man in construction like myself...his father was not apart of that life and despised it..not all of them were in the life...was there beef yea with the children..there is some truth to this story and some things that aren't true(according to him and our drive home sitting in traffic talks)

Great content provided, as always. The wide spectrum of topics within the mob genre that you cover make your channel unique. As far as your pronunciation of Magliocco, I’m not sure myself of the exact pronunciation either, however, I can say for sure that it was indeed butchered. That being said with content this good, who cares? Of course, for the benefit of your channel I will always offer constructive criticism, but truth be told, in this case I’m not 100% sure of the correct pronunciation. I think it’s pronounced Mag-Lee-occo, but am far from sure about that
Ha thanks pal. From what I understand the G is silent and produces a "Mah" sound at the start. Either way.. I won't be in a hurry to do a video with his name in it again! 😂 😂 😂 His nickname was "Joe Mayalak" so that might give some clue to the pronunciation.
@@OCSHORTZ You might be right about the “G” being silent, to be fair I’m honestly not sure. He is not someone I’m overly familiar with, however, the video was very interesting.
