The Japan Air Self-Defense Force stood up its first space operations squadron a year and a half ago. They could take some inspiration from this if/when the Space Operations Squadron becomes the Space Self-Defense Force.
One of the reasons the remake feels so right is indeed the music. This and "Praise be our Eternal Glory" are two examples that don't feel the least bit out of place among the original songs despite both being entirely new.

To this day, the time vault is one of the coolest concepts I've ever heard of. BUT, as a supply chain professional it drive me nuts. How the F are you feeding a factory the necessary supplies needed to churn out units at a rate 10x faster than replenishment? Especially in a solar system still recovering from a devastating war AND with an even more powerful enemy out and about??
Iirc the Gamilon empire is supplying them with the raw resources in return for a chunk of the production. That's why you see Andromedas in Gammy paint jobs at the end
One thing that I've always wondered is how Earth is able to build hundreds, if not thousands of new warships and after being devastated by orbital bombardment where did all the people come from to crew those ships? I mean I remember that the new ships depended heavily on automation, but that seemed to be the Andromeda's weakness and there . This by no means is a criticism of Starblazers... SBY "I grew up to Starblazers, sorry :)" which is by far one of the greatest scifi epics of all time.
I know- right? The only working theory I can come up with is that the Asteroid Belt just happened to contain vast quantities of metal ores- which United Earth mined prodigiously. Mass automation probably helped with ship production (Sanda has always been a wiz at that stuff!) and who knows- maybe the Cosmo DNA somehow regenerated Earth's mineral deposits (and made the Human survivors superfertile) along with removing the radioactive poisoning from the Gamlias Planet Bombs. (I was a huge Star Blazers fan growing up- too! When I was 9, I would get up at *5am* on _Schooldays_ just to watch the show!)
@@brianknapp6215 I thankfully didn't have to get up at 5am, but I would have to run full speed to the bus stop after it was over or walk to school. I ended up walking to school quite a bit LOL!
Been a while since I watched, if I remember correctly the gamilon empire is mostly intact and thriving, and is funneling a massive amount of resources into the time fault production. The scale does seem off no matter how many times I look at it. Season 2 kind of has an issue with establishing stakes and scale, and is always trying to ramp it up to ridiculous proportions.
@@fenrirhelvetr7479 I only remember the original Starblazers. Season 2 with the Comet Empire was pretty awesome. The amount of ships Earth was able to bring to battle seemed much more realistic. Seems like they may have had a couple of dozen of the smaller ships, and only the one Andromeda. No mention of a temporal shipyard, and Deslock was at first working with the Comet Empire. He did let the Star Force know that the CE was weak from the very bottom, which they did exploit to great effect. I can't find english dubs of the new version of these awesome stories anywhere.
I still don't understand why they built more of the outdated ships. They were woefully underpowered and undergunned with only a single shock cannon in the bow. Those green laser cannons couldn't even scratch the armor of Gamillas destroyer.
@@alicorn3924 there was a war between Mars and Earth some 30 yrs before the show begins, there was experience, but again, what to expect from an Interplanetary species fighting a multi-galaxy spanning empire.
My working theory is that the newer versions of the older ships with shock cannons as their primary armament and wave motion guns in their bows were built during Yamato's journey to Iscandar and back. The Yamato basically destroyed the Gamilas presence in the Solar System, giving Earth a lot of breathing room. If they were given the technical knowledge to build Yamato's wave engine and figured out how to make the wave motion gun then it wouldn't have been a stretch for them to adapt their existing, proven designs to be fitted with them. No sense sitting around doing nothing while a single ship goes off to some faraway planet, might as well start building the new fleet while they have the chance just in case the Yamato doesn't make it.
Specifically this is the reboot, Space Battleship Yamato 2199/2202 (the clips in this vid are specifically 2202), it's quite good, and actually has a good English dub if you're not a subtitle guy. Funimation has 2199 and 2202 on its site under the name Star Blazers, but it doesn't have the movies sadly, just the two series.
