My two phobias (flying and needles) have just got worse and worse to such an extent I now avoid them at all costs. But I have to say now that I never have to face them I'm much more relax.
Cleithrophobia. The exercise made me feel better about the steel gate in our hallway that was installed today. I wanted a small pet gate, but my husband wanted a door size gate. With a lock. I will have to get used to it. Still a little bit afraid, it doesn't feel like home.
Currently researching the details of erasing phobias, they seem to be some sort of trauma but the variability in causes and mechanisms is making it more difficult.
Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. It’s always interesting to hear what people have to say. My other videos on my UA-cam Channel Kalliope NYC have loads of content of people who gained freedom from their fears, where I had more than three minutes to help them through it. Their real time testimonials are there to back it up. It is with sincere interest in the well being of people that I do what I do and hope that you too can connect with this goal for all and keep looking for the best in life! And Thank you to TEDxWilmington for the forum to spread the message of freedom.
The philosophy in the last minute was good, but I was distracted by a few superficial things. The poor volunteer had my sympathy. She was manipulated and pressured into agreeing, no matter what her real feeling was. Her "vibe" was that it was a waste of time. I have little tolerance for pushy people. And she smiles constantly while pausing for a few seconds after each sentence, like she knows something fantastic that would make us all grin too if we only had her wisdom. ..promoting an air of superiority. But then I'm obviously a petty person...so...what are ya gonna do?
Yea. Her reactions to the volunteers answers were not that great. She laughed a little at one I think. And her jacket distracted me ;-; honestly don’t think this is going to help many people.
Assuming one can differentiate or scale one's phobia from unreasonable to reasonable, what is one to do about pervasive reasonable fears? This method seems inapplicable to real world problems. I don't see how it would either be wise or possible to "blink" away phobias without introducing more problems than are being solved. In practice reasonable fears of: Driving, eating tainted food, large groups of people, natural disasters, inclement weather, sick/unreasonable/unhealthy/unhinged people, the unknown in general, and many more all exist to keep you alive. The perceived severity of the fears above usually follows the magnitude of known consequences calibrated by the perceived likelihood, ability to mitigate, and manage the risk. You can't "blink" away: a bad driver, an earthquake, the flu, or the future, all you can do is mitigate risk and premeditate and prepare your response, with which "blink"ing away fears will not help because being fearless results in carelessness in place of competency. For practical problems and purposes this method seems flawed because it's attempting to diminish a fear response through some form of ignorance/reinterpretation instead of building competence. If someone fears pickles this approach may help, and I hope it does. If someone fears failure this approach may doom them as apathy is seldom conducive to success but often paramount in leading to failure. It's not insightful to say that fear is all in one's head. I don't see enough content here to help or guide in managing any practical real world everyday fears/phobias. Instead, it seems to be a way to market the speaker...
I was thinking the same thing. At the same time, what kind of result would be reaped from a 20 minute Ted talk? My hope is that there's more to the system.
Yes, I’d love to know more about empirical evidence behind it. The whole nature of a phobia is that it cannot be rationalized - or rather the person with the phobia understands and agrees with the rationalization, but still experiences a fight flight or freeze trauma response.
Praying for your peace. I pray you find rest in the purpose God has for u. Hang n there trooper ur existence is perfection in itself. Things may not get better but you were made to be a conquerer. You will get better. Speak life. Hang n there *hugs*
Kalliope would benefit greatly from some kind of communication training. She has obvious difficulty establishing contact with the other person and audience. Probably she has no spiritual master at all, lingering on the mental plane.

My phobia is needle. I need to get blood drawn and I literally canceled surgery for it.
I got the great pleasure to take the NLP Practitioner Class in 2018 with Kalliope and she is really an amazing teacher she is worth every penny

There is only one ultimate fear---the fear of death; subsequently the fear of not being able to accept death...

It shows who really suffer from deep-rooted phobias, eh?

NLP isn't evidenced based. Go to a psychologist to get evidenced based treatment.

This lady clearly has no phobia because her technique doesn’t work and she wouldn’t know.
