“People, the planet is burning”, Club of Rome Co-President Sandrine Dixson-Declève says at the outset of her riveting DLD talk. She goes on to highlight many interconnected global issues that we currently face - from climate change and environmental issues like floods, fires and biodiversity loss to increasing inequality and socio-economic issues.
To address these massive challenges, we need a paradigm shift, she argues - away from an extractive, GDP-focused economy to one focused on well-being, empowerment and addressing inequality.
Digital technology and AI can support this transition, Dixson-Declève says, but only if it is used to serve people and planet.
