- Last day of the weekend event the organizers decided to go for a Marathon race which was good fund for a change. I missed the morning briefing (as did a few other racers) so had no idea what was going on initially. Organizers then decided to have a second briefing before starting second Marathon race on that day.
Conditions were very pleasant. Good breeze. Was using 9m sail and 880cm Starboard front wing with long 109 fuselage.
Really cool video of the race with commentary! BTW, what do you think of the new 880 vs the old 900? I saw it is much more high aspect without the downturned tips but wondered how it behaved.
The 880 SLR is the replacement for the old 1000. The 750 SLR replaces the 900 wing. I got both. Compared to the old 1000 it glides a bit faster in lighter winds and handles choppy waters better as it flexes more. In terms of max speed and jibing performance they are equivalent. Found that 880 works well on IQ foil board for me. The 750 SLR is a different story. I actually did not like it on the IQ foil board (in Singapore conditions) as i found that i keep over-leveraging it in light winds at these slower speeds (some people told me its ok once your reach 24+ knots speed). But 750 works well on smaller and lighter boards like Starboard X15 (89 cm) and speeds are higher compared to 900 on IQfoil. But this is for the 7 to 12 knots Singapore tropical air conditions. I did not use them yet in colder climates.
@@sgp-3340 Thank you, interesting thoughts! I've only ridden the plus fuse style race wings on the iqfoil board, all the way down to the 550. I think I know what you mean by overpowering the foil, which happens sometimes on the small wings when underpowered. It feels very delicate, but once going the wings feel very similar. Interesting that they seem to handle chop better. I definitely feel the old plus fuse bigger wings grab onto chop quite a bit, especially the 900.
