@@digitaldoc100 very different. Most of the time the engine is never really heard now because the way the engine and cvt operates. The way the tq converter locks and unlocks feels different and more connected and while rolling if the tq converter is unlocked and you put your foot on the pedal the old rogue would rev to atleast 2500rpm before initiating the tq converter to start locking making the engine revs higher with higher sound but the new 1 can almost instantaneously lock at a much lower grab point of say 2k rpm. There's qlot it does different that the common person wouldn't understand especially if they don't own 1.
At least the CVT has been replaced by the nine-speed in the new upcoming Pathfinder. So cross fingers when the next upcoming models arrive it'll will continue without it too.

Just traded our 2018 Murano in with 16k miles. That CVT was trash. It was like an anchor just holding that fantastic V6 back. You’ll always have apologists for certain brands but the numbers don’t lie; Nissan’s CVT’s fail prematurely quite often. Ask the attorneys heading the numerous class action lawsuits. That said we have the new Rogue and the 2.5/CVT combo is far better by an inconceivable amount vs our Murano. It feels like the Rogue’s engine and trans work together to deliver power when needed where the Murano felt it was constantly battling its transmission, as if it was lugging it along because it would rather stay home. And all that said my 2018 Ram 1500 V8 4x4 was better than both and was going for (brand new) $7k less than the Murano and only $2k more than the Rogue. Had it not been for the financial strain I endured after the lockdown, I would have bought the Ram at the end of the lease and never needed another vehicle.
Yep. Most people don't maintain those as needed. They ain't like maintaining a traditional slushbox. The cvt in my 08 Lancer passed 255,xxx this year. (Knock on wood)

we test rode one of these late last year when my wife was looking, she had a 2017 Rogue and while it was an extremely reliable vehicle, it was basically gutless and not much changed in the way of power for 2021; however, the interior of the Platinum is quite nice. She end up going with the new Chevy Equinox Premium, she seems happy with it and it has far more get up and go than the Rogue. Toyota and Honda was not even in the running as they both have that plastic feel. I picked up a new truck a month ago and looked at the Tundra, what a hunk of Junk, so plastic inside the cabin
I agree about the cheapness of the Toyota and Honda in terms of 'feel'. Their interiors are so 1990's in terms of assembly quality and I'm not sure how they get a pass on that.
This generation is lighter, the torque number is very good and the horsepower is adequate, also the newest CVTs have a better response and reliability.
Still has that junk Jatco CVT. My dad transports cars from auctions for dealers and he's always talking about how many Nissans that he drives with bad CVT's.
@Jonathan A I checked consumer reports and the cvt is already showing signs of trouble. Not only that but more problems are showing up in other categories besides the transmission. Proof that Carlos Ghosn ( which is the era when even the “newer” cars were built ) was steadily producing more and more junk. He and Renault have ruined Nissan reliability. The Nissan Pathfinder 2013+ is an absolute disaster. Red circles everywhere.

I wouldn't consider buying another Nissan again until they come up with a better CVT transmission. I had an Altima with one and it went up at 37K. Nissan wouldn't do anything about it except tell me it would cost about $6K to replace it.

I don't know about you but I don't think your car is supposed to shudder and slam into gear when you shift from park.

After test driving both new Nissan and new Rav4 I chose Nissan rouge Platinum ... its interior, exterior and especially features are much much better than rav4...rav4 looks old school for boring people... I didn't notice any difference in engine performance... new CVT is much better ... rav4 is overrated and overpriced!!! In case you don't trust Nissan the go with Honda ... Toyota lost its game in front of both Honda and Nissan for me att least

Am I the only one that finds the front to be ugly? I know Nissan wanted something distinctive, and I see where they were going, but I don't like the end product. Maybe it grows on you? The rest of the vehicle isn't too bad, honestly, and they finally nailed the cabin and dashboard, especially that gorgeous quilted trim on the top line. Even without it, I still like the Rogue's crisp new cabin. Now...about that CVT...it's not an automatic deal breaker for me but certainly a large demerit especially when there are good non-CVT alternatives out there in this market. I'll take my CX-5 in blue please.
So you get a cx-5 so you can be claustrophobic in? If you carry a family a 4 regularly and deal with strollers or lots of cargo I can guarantee you the rogue is the 1 u want 2 b in or you're family.
I'm more of a Mitsu guy, which the Outlander had one from 2007 to 2020. The 6b series is a stout engine, the only downfall is the rubber timing belt. Since this is a new platform, I'm just hoping for the best. Still hoping for a nice sedan as well.

Terrible umdersteer in the slalom demonstrated. In the acceleration, note the back wheels not moving while the fronts brake traction, so where is the AWD? Less power than the RAV4 and CRV.
@Jonathan A Not sure why anyone wants to buy the car with the least power. Also, the CRV has a turbo, with a lower torque peak, which improves the driveability. I have driven it, and it felt more powerful than it was.

CVT's work well on smaller cars and SUV's for gas mileage you just have to maintain them.

As a Honda technician, I can tell you that the CVT's on a majority of Honda vehicles have been proven to be very reliable. It's all about maintenance.

JATCO CVTs aren't what they used to be. Reliability went wayyyy up in the new CVT8s that have been installed in vehicles 2016-2017 and newer.

Wish I had known about these Nissan cvt transmissions...... after putting 200k on one and up to 160k on another. Yes I have maintained them every 70k.
I put over 300k on my cvt and would def buy another cvt
