  • How to make a custom Arduino EMF RF Detector
In this video we build a simple EMF(electromagnetic field) and RF(radio frequency)detector. This can be used around the home to detect leaky electronic appliances like microwaves, televisions, cell phones, etc. EMF detectors are used in "ghost hunting."
The .96in OLED display used in this project used two libraries from Adadfruit:
    SSD1306
    github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_...
    Adafruit GFX
    github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-...

May I suggest: "10 PCB's for two bucks!"

Thanks for this, I subscribed and hope to see more. My grandmother used to have me soldering parts on boards when I was 12 in her home workshop and I've always been interested in exploring it more. I used to mods my gaming systems when CDs were a thing (to read Writable and RW), learn to code in C++, PHP, HTML, Java, bought a PI many years ago when they were first coming out, set it up as a Linux server but not much more beyond that. Recently I bought a soldering iron, and after watching this video purchased an Arduino kit. I plan on watching many more to grow this interest into a more serious hobby. Thank you for sharing, and keep em coming.

I have made several of these for our local paranormal research teams using simple transistor logic and old TV Rabbit ears for a detector, they do love them, however this one with it's display may well change their tingle down their leg to more of a discharge of thrill running down their legs! I will have to try these when I return to my home in the spring, right now I am in our winter retreat in the middle of the desert in South Western Arizona, and my tools and arduinos are enjoying their respite in South Dakota, where our sticks and bricks home stands. Right now there is one hell of a wind blowing up from Mexico and our Motor Home is rocking so hard I am almost getting sea sick, but it is all part of the life of a nomadic snow bird from the Dakota's. Thanks a million for the video, I do love studying up on such things when I can't solder them together in cases for the teams.

FYI it's impossible to tell what colour resistor bands are when your white balance is off this much.

Will this satisfy measuring similarly as an AM radio (like the noise aspect of am radio but just need measurement)? looking to find/make something that will pick up lower than am radio range, this looks to be a solution but would need to do side by side test, wanting to find dirty noise in signal cabling without hooking up other instruments and will be in confined spaces with the need to travel in a maze type situation. :) Thank you

Great vid! Only suggestion - I like how you make the viewer figure out the resistors - but it would be cool if you would read off the colors. Due to too few glasses and too many beers at this end - I couldn't quite make it out :).

This is great but what I'd like to do is have 2 auduarnos work together. One to receive the signals and one to produce the signals. The dominant EMF signal produced would need to be something simple that translates to a few different numbers based on frequency. How would I go about that? Also, for the experiment I'd like to do, I do not wish to send digital data. Just simple values that can be used as the input and output of a nueral network program.

I like the project, but in my opinion you would improve your videos by A: don't keep something secret in an instructional video.
B: don't forget to post your code. I've noticed multiple people asking for it and it is still not posted.
C: don't explain every line of code. Just post the code and //comment in the explanation.
    One man's opinion.

    Hi, Great video
I tried doing your example, but I just can't get it to work.
I don't have a 3.3M Ohm resistor (yet) but I do have 3 x 1M ohm and a 330K and tried setting them in series.
My probe was a jumper wire like yours just a bit thinner i guess. If I don't ass the resistors I just readings jumping up and down anywhere if I add the resistors I keep getting readings at 0
I only have like a starter pack of Arduino, so my stock of resistors are small. Is there anyway to do this using what I have ? Sorry for Asking but I just started out with Electronics
