    You put sand in the black bit for weight.i learnt the same way as you. If you use water for weight it gets stagnant

    I raise 30 Cornish Cross meat chickens every year in two chicken tractors.
    I made mine using a clear measured 5 gallon bucket with a pour spout style lid (both from Lowe's).
    So I could fill it, I drilled a 3/4 inch hole about 1 inch up from the bottom and installed a 1/2 inch I.D. rubber grommet.
    Then added a 1 1/2 inch long 1/2 O.D. clevis pin and attached a piece of wire to it and wired the nut on the inside so it wouldn't get lost.
    Then set the whole thing in a 4 inch tall rubber pan.
    Works great. :)

      Yeah I make plenty of waterers myself, I just wanted something easy this time. Also, needed it to hang so I didn't have to open the door and grab stuff every time I moved the tractor.

    Thanks! I'm planning on using a 55 gallon drum. I have a small brooder building, so I think I'm going to set the barrel outside and run the hose through the wall to the drinker. As long as I have the drum elevated to a level above the drinker this should work right? This way I won't have to move the drum out of the building when I clean out the brooder every 4 weeks.

    Farmer Boy now wants $20 to ship one of these to me. That would make it $70 after shipping.

      Guess you'll have to find it somewhere else. I just picked up 8 more from them.

    Can I ask what size hose you use? I bought mine used and I don’t have a hose

      Weird it didn't come with a hose. I know the outside diameter is roughly 11/32 inch. I just drilled a hole in a bucket today for one. Best to take the nozzle off and go to the hardware store.

    Has anybody used sand instead of water for the weight, and if so, how much sand? Thanks😊

    • @NicholsCounty
      @NicholsCounty  Рік тому

      Yes I believe people do. I'd just fill it about half way. Enough to balance it out.
