how would you negotiate these colours with m3 material design's use of 40% gradient? would you use these colours as they are, or set them against a scale?
I would definetly set them against a scale. There is a great Figma plugin that I use for this called UI Color Palette www.figma.com/community/plugin/1063959496693642315/ui-color-palette#:~:text=UI%20Color%20Palette%20is%20a,on%20the%20configured%20lightness%20scale. You can set it to a number of design system scales (Including Material) using any of the main hues from the color palettes in this video!
