- All Time Low drummer Rian Dawson takes home the award for Best Drummer presented by DW Drums, proving himself the favorite "band backbone" of our six nominees!
Accepting the award from Our Last Night to the sounds of the Contemporary Youth Orchestra performing ATL's "A Love Like War," Dawson admits his faults:
"I'm so happy this was pre-voted because I know every musician out there heard be fuck up on the fill on the blink-182 part of the opening number."
He then goes on to thank his band, the fans, his drum tech and manager among others!

If you've ever seen the guy play, he's pretty damn phenomenal.
They need to see them all play live. Their stage presence sets them apart from practically every band/act I've seen live.
I know this was like 5 years ago, but I’m still so proud of Rian, I love him with all my heart.

Don't get why there are so many haters, Rian may not be the best drummer in the world, but he's still awesome, doubt any of you could play Love Like war, Me Without You or So long Soldier perfectly.

@ people complaining that their fave didn't win, vote next time. hating on rian isn't going to change the fact that he won, which in fact was very well deserved. rian gives everything at their shows, he works really hard, and he is a great drummer.
Yeah well maybe Rian has more fans, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to win as much as the others do. All of them are super talented, really

AnimePolska That's part of the problem. Just because the winners are voted by the fans doesn't mean they're better than the other nominees. This whole awards show is a popularity contest. It doesn't prove who has the most talent, it simply shows which bands have the biggest fan base. That's why bands like BVB, ATL, SWS, 5SOS, ADTR, PTV alway win awards. It's all the same.
What makes it even worse is that Alternative Press are allowing fans to vote for categories like "Best Guitarist" and "Best Drummer".... two categories that require a lot of skill, creativity and technicality.
Alternative Press It's an absolute fucking disgrace to see musicians who have more talent than others slip through the cracks without getting the recognition they deserve. You guys need to understand that you've got a problem. What you're allowing is not a good thing and like I said previously, it's a popularity contest.

true musicianship? wow, i thought music is for people to enjoy no matter if it's a drunk person singing national anthem or a sold out arena tour performance. I had no idea there was a TRUE way to do it.
AnimePolska Music IS for people to enjoy but when you have musicians receiving awards based on what the public think, it's a whole different ball game.
You don't appear to understand it (musicianship) because if you did, you would be able to consider ideas and understand the technicalities behind each category, rather than just palming it off casually.

Best technical drummer out of the nominees? No. A great drummer? Yes. Matt Greiner and Luke Holland are beasts on the drums, but Rian Dawson is still a great musician. His playing fits with the music and he makes the songs work. I agree, from a purely technical point of view, Holland or Greiner should have won, but still congratulations and much respect to Rian for this award.
at the same time technicality isn't all that matters, but also style and musicality
Let's think of it this way, only 6 people were nominated. You have to have somewhat fucking talent in order to be nominated. Rian won because he's a great drummer, the others were nominated because they're great drummers. All 6 are great at what they do and at the end of the day, the only difference is, one of them makes a speech and takes home a trophy. Winning an award or losing one doesn't determine set talents and skills. They're all great for different reasons.

This is how it works: AP chooses 6 musicians/bands that have amazing talent, that gets them some recognition and then fans vote for whoever they want to win thats why some mainstream bands win over underground bands most of the time

Hey, guys, just because he got the title of best drummer does not mean he is the best. This is for the fans. If the show was judged by music judges, maybe he would have won, maybe not. All in all, don't take it personally.

Madi Rawr yo, just so you know, i think all time low are an amazing band, don't get me wrong, i just think rian isn't the best drumer out of the nominees. i also never said i was better than any of them? i don't know if you've ever watched luke or matt drum? they pull of some extremely hard stuff.

If you've seen him play live, then you'd think that comment. He's amazing and all the drummers nominated are great, if they weren't then they wouldn't have been nominated at all.
