@@Elias_Truth you don’t know me from a can of paint bro. I hate when y’all jump in these comments like y’all know people, their cultural backgrounds and experiences. my family from Carolina, Florida & Bahamas Dominica(not DR). Just because you dancing in front of a drum that don’t make it junkanoo. You look down south that’s real junkanoo from Miami Florida to the Bahamas to Jamaica down to Honduras with the garifuna. That’s REAL junkanoo, traditions and etc. it’s a spiritual thing. I don’t think it’s spiritual with peoples outside of the people down south. Folks doing it for tourist bucks, to dance around like africans from roots and not telling the real history behind junkanoo, wanaragua, jankunu and cultural connections between all the people.
@@caterolle1335 my apologies. I’m also Gullah Geechee/Cuban on my fathers side. My great grandmother was born on Tybee Island. There’s Cuban and Bahamian roots as well. But I thought you were one of those who deny our African roots. You’re right about Junkanoo. My apologies
@@Elias_Truth There are some geechees that claim to be indigenous though but that’s not what my comment was about. My initial comment is 100 percent facts though. All the old Gullahs were colonized by the church. These here “Christian Gullahs” or “AME Gullahs” I say cuz the culture ain’t no where near the same as down south.
T Newsom-king Its cultural like they descend from this community like black creoles. I don't think you can just join. Its not something they made up. They are some of the few WAs who retained their African heritage.
@@rudrapsarkar But it is passed down. Gullah Geechee is not something you can just claim plus they have legally classified themselves and their land. If you aren't Geechee you aren't. This is not a made up community they have always been Geechee and Gullah every since slavery.
It is good to see our little sisters and daughters preserving the cultural dance and Gullah traditions. 👍🏾🙏🏾💖✌🏾
I love we are practicing our cultural dances and preserving it now
