R.I.P Chrom. Cause of death: Losing his keys.
Thanks to @actuallizard on Twitter for brining this to my attention, I couldn't find video footage of this so decided to make my own!
*BREAKING NEWS:* Local Lord Dies By Locking Himself out of His House
Last words were: DOOR STUCK! DOOR STUCK! PLEASE! I BEG YOU!
"It ain't even his house!" - Quote from local Knight
"We're just lucky he dropped those keys in the snow," says Archer currently on the mend. "I don't know why we thought bringing them to where we were being sieged was a good idea."
"Wait, I think that guy might have been the real Chrom," says local procurement expert Ruger. "Say, that gives me an idea..."
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the warmly-dressed person seen with the leader of the bandits is shaking down local red-haired shopkeepers for keys of all shapes and sizes. Lady Raimi, who repelled this attack, could not be reached for comment at this time.
.....Why did I write this news broadcast. I think I'm going insane.
@@starmaker75 This is the universe where the events of Awakening occur shortly after SMG4 started his UA-cam career in-universe.
Frederick saying “the enemy reclaimed the keys” is clearly written as if the character holding them was killed, but I like to imagine that discarding them just means you hand them to the Feroxi and say “you win.”
Chrom’s reputation for breaking walls cannot carry over to doors for there is no option to Break Door.
Oh right, yeah. Of all games, this would WOULD make sense having a break door mechanic.
Even 10+ years after Awakening came out we’re still finding nee things about it. That’s a hilarious game over
I think it was only recently proved that Masked Lucina in Chapter 4 can't crit, too.
"You get a Game Over if you don't have door keys! Isn't that hilarious, Leif?"
"It's a good thing it happens in the early game! It sure would suck if it happened near the end of the game, right, Leif? ... Leif?"
Thracia moment
@@awesomehazimex7410context about keys in that game?
@@metachop7444 The last chapter requires you being like 5 keys otherwise you're straight up boned.
You are given no warning for this.
@@1stCallipostleyou cant use any thieves to open the doors?
And thus, by accidentally dropping the keys in the snow, Chrom and the Shepards doomed their future.
Still less embarrassing than dying to a wall.
Huh? Wall?
The Devil Axe, using it on a wall in FE7 and backfiring means you killed yourself by attacking a wall.
STILL, imo, not as dumb as Lyn Mode's tutorial killing you if you lose everyone but Lyn before the Dorcas chapter. Dorcas' forced recruitment takes Lyn away from the NPC you're protecting and there's no-one else to plug the gap.
@BigKlingy honestly, if you lose everyone but Lyn, you deserve the auto loss
Now I just imagine they end up searching the snowfield for the keys after dropping them, much to the enemy soldiers confusion.
Ferox Boarder Guard: "This is the weirdest attack we've ever seen."
“Butterfingers” - Naga upon seeing the Shepherds doom their entire future
Of all the ways to doom the future, this is certainly... one of them.
That has to be the funniest game over condition I’ve ever heard of.
For me, Rescue Staffing Asugi and him immediately escaping is funnier.
@@BigKlingyI definitely remember that one from the Fates LP. You thought you had a good idea to break the map gimmick but the game said NOPE!
That background during the prep screen looks nice. I'm getting kinda nostalgic for the old 3ds lp layout.
Me too. I might do something with Awakening one day, like a stream.
"Tell me Lucina, how do I die?"
"Butterfingers"
It is amazing that they accounted for you losing the keys, but not Vaike dying.
Yup, Vaike still gets dialogue even if he dies right after trading with Miriel.
Real talk, losing your keys is an incredibly frustrating and horrifying experience.
I can definitely see what you mean.
I once ALMOST locked myself out, and I screamed "OH SH*T!" a lot, before realizing one of my doors was still open.
I once thought I'd lost my main house key for several weeks.
...Turns out, it was literally in my wallet where it always was but just nudged in deeper than usual.
What a scary thought...
I actually knew this happened the same year Awakening Launched!
…Because I tried Lunatic+…
Understandable, not hard for your key-bearers to die there.
Chrom went from the Emblem of *Bonds* to the Emblem of the *Klutz*
He has ascended and is *free* from his *bonds*
You mean Emblem of Sumia
I love when game developers add stupid or small details like this that 99.9999 percent of people will ever see unless they actively go for it
That thumbnail is perfect.
Thank you. I instantly thought of that Pokemon line when I heard about this.
Also insert obligatory “Let me in!” meme here.
MILORD WE DROPPED THE KEYS ITS OVER FOR US! oh yeah also vaike died I guess
Except this time Vaike didn't talk as a ghost. (I've got another video on the channel of that, if you get Vaike killed after Miriel trades him the axe he still talks)
HA, amazing! xD I guess using hammers or axes on doors is considered illegal in Ylisse... actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if we'll ever have actual siege machines in Fire Emblem. Not just catapults and ballistae, but siege towers and battering rams.
Yep, no breaking down doors allowed here. We aint like those Tellius and Elyos hoodlums!
Never knew this could happen, you learn something new everyday. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I couldn't find any video footage so felt I had to upload this.
Thanks again for the fire emblem awakening let’s play and character information. I still rewatch it in parts whenever i go back to the game.
Thanks! I had a lot of fun with that, hard to believe it's so long ago.
I'm pretty proud of the Engage Let's Play I did last year, if anyone's interested. Gave me a lot of the same vibes as the Awakening one.
I read about that fact on Twitter, but i am glad it exists in video form.
I'm happy to oblige.
They didn't lose the keys, Kellam just had them.
I once painted a breath taking pocture of Kellam dueling John Cena, but everyone else just called it a blank canvas
That makes so much sense but that's also crazy.
Never thought they'd actually put in a Game Over here.
That was a neat bit of trivia! Thank you.
Thanks to Actuallizard for pointing this out on Twitter.
Didn't know Awakening was inspired by Thracia
Hi Lizard. Thanks for making me aware of this on Twitter.
"I lost my ironman today."
"Oh no, what happened?"
"I dropped my keys."
Too fuckin funny xD I love how this implies that there's absolutely no way they could try again another day.
But I also love that they thought to prepare forthis, though I assume they thought it'd just happen if your units with the keys were killed.
Oops! Butterfingers!
I like how if this map was one chapter later you'd both have convoy access and Kellam to class change to thief, but it isn't so this humorous game over exists instead
That's a neat bit of trivia. Appreciate you getting footage of it.
...this has got to be the funniest non-standard game over I've ever seen. I love this game. XD
Imagine in the modern world Chrom dropping his car or house keys and he just dissapears.
I guess breaking down the door was never a Plan B then...
And it'd make sense in this game, because... Chrom.
The attention to detail in the 3DS FE games is just straight up RIDICULOUS.
Now that's quite funny. Imagine losing the chapter by dropping the keys💀
This editing reminds me of ShadowofChaos awakening videos so much, the nostalgia.
Shadowofchaos is great. Used to watch his stuff a lot.
I already knew about this as I heard about it a couple of years ago. Nonetheless still quite funny.
On a semi-related note, since the comment I made on the update video, i managed to find a mod that has everyone start off in one of their alternate class options. An interesting aspect of it is that while Chrom, Lissa and Frederic are all mounted (Cavalier, Pegasus and Griffon Knight respectively), you don't get a healer until Miriel. Though the mod does also modify growths of some units to make them work better in their new classes (such as Virion and Ricken)... but not Kellam the Priest (mod dev wanted him to be a healer in the vein of Azama from Fates).
This feels like chrom would do this and then somehow something bursts through the door and that’s how the shepherds get in
Knowing Chrom, he'd hit the door in annoyance and put a big enough hole in it to open it from the other side.
This is hilarious. It does make a lot of sense that it exists, though.
What kind of idiots thought that make discardable Key Items a good idea anyway?
@@TheJaredPunchHonestly it sounds like they didn't really even plan for that, and that the ending assumes that your units carrying the keys died. Which makes it all the funnier that you can lose in an even more pathetic way.
Programming a specific item to not be discardable sounds like trouble, and if you filled up someone's whole inventory with keys that could be a problem.
@@BigKlingyI'm pretty sure falchion is not discardable, but ofc there's only one of them, unlike keys. So yeah, tbf you could even argue that any item being discardable is pointless but as you say its purpose is to give you an option to dispose of them in battle, since the game can't possibly have unlimited space and you don't have a "send to the convoy" command. On an more extreme note, you might find a glitched item or something like that so it's always convenient to be able to drop items in general for rpgs
@@elnchou A solution would be to have an item named Key with an ID UndroppableKey that is used for this chapter that can't be dropped, and to have a script running at the end of the chapter that does ReplaceItem('UndroppableKey', 'Key');
Or something like that.
that is some excelblem level fuckery with the game and its great
Step 53: Doom the future by losing your house keys.
Omfg!!! The devs actually predicted that someone would do this!!
This just goes to show once again how much insane attention to detail went into making awakening!!!
Also, pretty funny to imagine grima destroying the world all because of a locked door.
There's also things like Chrom's promoted model NOT having the Fire Emblem shield if you promote him before he gets it in the story.
The only attention to detail fail I can think of is married cousins being labelled as "Companions" but still having romantic conversations on event tiles, but that's a localization issue.
This wouldn't happen if they left a spare under the mat.
I better not lose my keys unless I want to end up like Chrom!
Whaaaat?! They took account for that on the off chance the player was stupid enough to drop them? That’s amazing.
Only learned about this a few weeks ago. Fire Emblem is pretty good at taking things like this into account.
I think it's intended for if the people carrying the keys die. Still pretty funny though xD
oh thank you for this.
Oh right this. This I have seen before. Odd that there weren't any other videos on it since I could have sworn that's how I learned about this very specific game over. At the very least, I learned about this with some kind of visual attached to it and it wasn't from Lizard.
But yeah, this is quite a silly little thing, but I'm glad the devs had insight to make this a game over and stop the player from soft-locking themselves with no hope of victory. That's one thing I truly do find fascinating about game design is taking in account all of the possibilities that could happen while playing the game. In this case, obviously the intended design is to use those door keys without anything bad happening, but the devs had to take in consideration what happens if the player suddenly loses those keys and can't beat the level and put in failsafes. Again, such considerations are always interesting when making a game and how to ensure it works properly even in the most unlikely of circumstances.
In other news, I'm free from MD grinding... For now. I unfortunately realized that June is going to likely be another Duelist cup Month, which I despise, so if I want to grind up the pass and got it done before July 2nd/3rdish, I have to now grind up a lot of matches in Ranked, or at least as many as I can do before hitting a major rank so when June comes in, I have more room to get ahead via easier matches. Going to start having to do that come the 30th.
EDIT: Also for MD... Currently poor again as I want to try to get both the Mementos Cards and the cards needed for the Horus Engine. Good news is I have most of the cards for both, but bad news is that I'm missing FOUR URs [one more copy of the witch for Mementos, and I still need a frikin playset of Sarcophagus as I've yet to pull one], so I'm hoping to pull a bit more so I have less URs to craft. Also just realized I might be too poor later for another archetype I'm waiting on, but I hope I'm wrong on that. Also the impossible has happen with MD dropping a actually good Banlist after eons as it's eliminating the Supreme Lock and hitting Snake Eyes twice in a row (the latter of which, sadly makes it far better than what the TCG/OCG have done to stop it). Also as someone who wants to play more Pendulum Decks, they also unlimited Monkey Board, which is nice, but it's also a UR and I will probably be needing to become more gem impoverished to get a playset of that too.
But for now, back to the other games I'm handling. For Monster Sanctuary, actually got done beating it (was actually getting ready for the final boss when this came up). Still a great game, but I'm not quite done as I want to get the usual 100% Monster completion, so that will be doing the rest of "post game" for it as well as the DLC area. Probably not going to do the Legendary Keeper Fights for now since I doubt my one associate (whose the reason I'm replaying this game to make sure he doesn't fail horribly -like usual lol- as he's going through it) is unlikely to do them (and if he does, I have at least a two week barrier at minimum before I need to start tackling them).
As for the TTYD remake, been enjoying it a fair bit as I've made decent progress into it [finished up Chapter 3 and am currently debating to do story or take another dive into the Pit and get the Sack first]. Even for a generally easy game (at least in relative to some of the other games I've played this year), been kind of surprised how much I've been breezing through most things, which has left me a tad disappointed, but I'm still enjoying myself a lot and I'm sure the universe will find some way to make me eat those words at some point.
It is interesting to think that Awakening is the only game to have locked doors you can't attack but doesn't give you a Locktouch unit before then. I am also reminded of Iago's map in Conquest because the only reason you can destroy the doors on that map is because you would be softlocked without Locktouch there as well. Thracia's final map is reliant on either door keys or lockpicks as well unless you have a lot of warp staff uses as well.
Good luck with your future endeavours with Master Duel and best of luck with pulling for those key cards later as well.
Good to hear that you made tons of progress with Monster Sanctuary as well and I wish you the best with the post game and the collecting involved.
Glad to hear you are making a lot of progress with TTYD as well. It is an overall easy game especially if you are aware of the very powerful setups which is why brother breezed through his last playthrough which he did finish just in time for the remake to release. Me and him also like tackling the pit early as well since I remember my brother got the sack very early in his last playthrough as well. Best of luck with what you decide to tackle next.
As for myself, as I wait for the promised day of the 30th, I made more progress with Gran Turismo 4 and I am around the 60% mark at the moment and I have been focusing mostly on the regional events as I cleared all of the American events after a thrilling battle with a Dodge Viper Race Car with my C2 Corvette Race Car in the All American Championship since I decided to challenge myself since it was the weaker of the two choices I had for that championship. I moved on to the European events focusing on an Alfa Romeo 147 GTA that I decided to buy from the Alfa dealership to conquer its own one make event, the GTA Cup, as well as La Festa Italiano and the Euro Hot Hatch League. The former also had an amazing prize car in the Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 TI Touring Car which I will think about using later since it is one of my favourite race cars in this game. The next car I focused on was a Mercedes SL 600 I bought from the Used Car dealer which also had its own one make event, the SL Challenge, which wins us a Mercedes 300 SL which I used for the Euro Classic Car Championship. The SL 600 then completed Schwarzwald Liga B for me winning another cool race car in the Mercedes 190 E Touring Car. My next target was the Pan Euro Championship so I prepared by buying an Aston Martin DB9 which I also used for its own one make event, the Aston Martin Festival, and I feel confident in using the DB9 to conquer the Pan Euro Championship. It won't be a simple Championship due to the long length of the races as well as the Championship featuring the tricky Nürburgring and Circuit De La Sarthe tracks.
My brother completed his Conquest playthrough with little issues despite not having a clear cut plan for endgame and then he moved on to focusing on another Nuzlocke against one of his friends in ORAS. Speaking of Fates, I am almost done recording Revelation as well.
@@BerserkerRohan When you say it like that, it really does become even weirder. Also yeah Iago's map if the doors couldn't be targeted... Don't even want to think about that. And yeah, Thracia's pretty infamous with that as well and I'd imagine a theoretical remake is going to have to address that ASAP.
Many thanks for both that and MS.
That could be a part of that as well since I did learn how absurd Yoshi is and tried that for a major fight to get rid of 80% of that boss's HP in one blow after setting it up. Also got Fire Drive early even if I don't use it much. Though even disregarding those advantages, there was a lot I was surprised by how easy I got through when others claimed to have issues with. But again, I am tempting fate with these remarks, so maybe something will happen to change my mind on the easy time I'm having. Might just do the Pit early since even though one change and one unchanged thing is deterring me a bit, probably will do that to get some challenge since I don't imagine the next chapter will be too hard outside of *that* enemy. Many thanks for the good luck there too.
Well done on hitting the 60% mark for GT4's completion. Also great to hear that you've not only done well in the events, but also found one of your favorite cars during them as well. Best of luck with the Pan Euro Championship, especially if it's one of the more difficult championships to beat in the game.
Going to be honest, not surprised he had little issues with Conquest Endgame with no plan. Given everything you've told me about his runs, your brother casually beating Conquest Endgame without a massively in depth plan; Pratically a Sunday stroll for him at this point. Best of luck to him with his Nuzlocke. Also great to hear that Rev is almost done being recorded as well.
@@jaredfayette2567 It is interesting to think about how the use of doors has changed over time.
Damage stack + Yoshi is a classic and something my brother used a lot in his last playthrough to good effect.
The difficulty may also be dependent on what you are focusing on levelling up as well.
Pan Euro Championship will depend on how strong the opponent cars are as well and I can't remember what kind of cars they are driving so I am kind of playing it safe with the DB9 being a very strong choice.
It also helps he does follow a general strategy to beat endgame involving using the Silence against the Freeze Maid. It is also only Hard since my brother doesn't want to play Lunatic again after he proved he can beat it before.
Maybe I can record the final chapter tomorrow and then think about future plans.

DAMM! I did not know this!
This is actually pretty funny! I wonder what other funny interactions there are out there
There's also a special game over in Fates that happens if you lose all of your dragon vein units in Seigbert's Paralogue in casual mode, had it happen to me once.
Huh, that could be something else I could try and test.
Huh... I've been taught a new thing this day.
Really wish that failsafe was in Kjelle's Paralogue, it would've saved me a lot of frustration 11 years ago.
I guess at that point, you're expected to reclass someone to Thief or something. I think shops might sell Door Keys too.
@@BigKlingyI unintentionally killed Gaius and the one who had the Dueling Grounds’ Door Key got taken out at some point. I had genuinely soft-locked myself.
Laguna: Could they be one of "my people"?
The first time played fire emblem awakening I got to chapter 3 saved then within an hour I broke my arm that was nearly 10 years ago
I wouldve just expected this to be a softlock where you have to reset
Nope, they thought of it, so they mercy-kill you. Later on I think you can buy Door Keys on the world map so this isn't necessary after this chapter.
POV: The Low Intelligence version of the Vault Dweller from Fallout 1 is playing FE13
Also, you can softlock yourself in Chapter 4x of Thracia 776 by having no keys as proven by Mangs FE5 Ironman
I think there's actually quite a few chapters in FE5 that basically softlocks you by having no keys including the one that made you rage quit.
Getting softlocked in an Ironman is hilarious.
@@BigKlingy Why they didn't bring back the ability to break down doors from FE9 or 10, I will never know.
I have no words...
This is so absurd that it reminds me of Pikasprey's Pokemon softlocke videos. In a normal playthrough, only the worst possible player would find this, but experimenting is a different story.
Yeah it's pretty unlikely you'd see this in a normal run, unless you're playing Lunatic and everyone carrying keys dies, which I could see happening.
This is totally something Kaga added in
Love how games like this take any potential soft locking into account. LOL
Later on you can probably softlock yourself, but by that point they expect you to have access to Thief reclassing (and Robin can always be one as long as you have Second Seals) or buyable Door Keys on the map.
@@BigKlingy This is thankfully the only mandatory map in the game with a mandatory use of a Door Key to progress. All other mandatory chapters can be beaten without opening any doors.
Yikes! Instant KO! Bad Call when U.. & U lose not only that, but whoever holds on it will be.. Augh! Either way, this chapter is something most players didn't knew or what to expect. 😨
Ah chapter 3. What a difficulty spike even on normal.
Also the DQ trilogy is coming in hd2d soon. Yay!
Chapter 2 is apparently brutal on Lunatic.
Oh, that's FINALLY happening?? Good to know.
@@BigKlingy and Thousand Year Door opening sales in the UK are equal to Origami King Opening sales.
Chrom got bodied by Sora
Here, in Smash, Chrom can't catch a break.
This is absolutely hilarious
Yeah, "the enemy" reclaimed them. Sure they did
Kaga did it first. You can screw yourself in the endgame of Thracia 776 if you don’t have a way to open the doors, it’s silly.
Wait, really? I suppose if all your Thieves die and you have no Door keys...
@@BigKlingy Yes, if you lost your thieves and have no door keys in hand, you make the final chapter impossible to win. I think there are dark bishops carrying keys, but they are all inside the boss chambers that you can't even get inside and all of them have Fenrir, a long-ranged dark tome, so trying to convince them to let you in is, well...
It's probably why the boss rush in Blazing Blade open the door automatically. Giving you ease to fight each bosses at a time and preventing the same shenanigans from happening again.
Also, you can't use Tina to steal the keys since they are all in magic tiles that gives them 10 extra magic, way higher than Tina with 20 magic and a pure water.

Karma by Mary Sue for keeping Sumia alive, i guess?
This shocks me LOL, i never enocuntered this cuz frederick just solos the map but this is interesting to know
Oh that’s neat!
It's always funny when games incorporate special dialogue/game overs for situations like this.
So in other words, the world ends if you drop the keys?
"But... the future refused to change....... because Chrom was a klutz."
Awakening is definitely janky, but you can tell the passion that was put into this game bc there’s so many weird edge cases that were accounted for. The game very well could have been the last in the franchise (hence why it’s kind of a mess with 37838383 different mechanics- most of them are from old fire emblem games being brought back bc they might have literally never been able to) and the devs worked their asses off to make it a worthy finale.
I love how Owain's father support changes if it's Robin, because him seeing his dad die in the future wouldn't make sense for Robin.
Wow. They straight up made a level unintentionally unwinnable if you, for some reason, decide to drop the keys.
I dub this… Keys of deaths
Lose or drop your keys and you die.
At least you don't softlock yourself. Isn't it in Thracia 776 that you can softlock yourself if you don't have keys or thieves on the final map ?
I guess it's *some* softlock prevention...
Still not has stupid has using the devil axe on wall and dying from it
Or getting everyone except Lyn killed on Lyn Normal Mode, and then the tutorial making it impossible to protect Natalie because Lyn is forced to abandon the fort and recruit Dorcas and there's no-one left to plug the gap.
Yes, Lyn Mode's tutorial can kill you.
The funny thing is, this is actually rather unrealistic... because if things actually worked that way, I think we need to go back in time and tell all the medieval people that they can stop a siege by just locking their doors, because surely no invading army has ever figured out a way to do to a castle what thieves do to people's homes on a regular basis... like surely the enemy wouldn't scale the walls, or use a battering ram on the gate, or bribe some low-ranking guard to open the gate for them, or... but seriously. Humans in general are usually not deterred by locked doors, especially in wartime.
Several other Fire Emblem games (Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, Engage) let you break down doors. Not sure why this isn't one of them.
Interesting
Chrom: No! The Door Key! Without it… I’ll die!
Mary Sue: No Chrom! Stay with me! If you die, you’ll be Isekai’d back into a relationship with Sumia! Stay with me! PLEASE!
Game Over. Except this timeline doesn’t exist in my file. Begone, Mary THOT!
Lol
This is both dumb and creative, requiring keys is a creative idea, but the idea you can’t win without it is dumb, but you can’t destroy doors in this game so I understand.
Honestly, Alear had a point. Why try unlocking a door when you can just destroy it? lol 😂
Ivy: I can’t unlock the door!
Timerra: Don’t worry, leave it to me!
Ivy: Wait! You can’t just-
Timerra gets a Sandstorm Critcal and destroys the door with Emblem Ike.
Ivy (and the others, being reminded of Emblem Ike’s abilities): I… stand corrected.
Because that wasn’t a option in awakening
@@gavinbunting7354 I know that. I was just joking.
I know you were, I just wish you could smash doors more often than you are able to in games.
@@gavinbunting7354It's especially strange because Chrom is known to be quite destructive (often unintentionally), so it would make sense that he could bust down doors, but nope. Seems it's exclusive to the Tellius games and Engage.
If this game had the same writers as Nier Automata:
"Presuming them to be unimportant, Frederick and Sumia haphazardly tossed away the only keys able to unlock the doors. By the time the Shepherds realized their mistake, the keys were lost in the thick snow, and no one was able to find them. Forced to retreat, and having lost their opportunity to secure aid from Ferox, Ylisse ultimately lost the war with Plegia, all of the Shepherds losing their lives in the process. Oh, and that means there was no one around to stop Grima, so the world was destroyed too."
