As a non American, observing what is happening to America and it's constitution, especially those who should have no doubt as to what is lawful or not, I see nothing but a disgraceful sham.
It is the depth of the coup against our country to have to listen to this BS.
Calling these people Justices is a joke. Justice is the last thing on their mind. They are clearly unelected politicians. A disgrace to the rule of law.

Speaking as an American, I think "disgraceful sham" is something of an understatement.
As an American citizen, I am horrified and disgusted by this. I am likely to only have another 20 years (if that) left in this life and am more concerned about the country my children and grandchildren will live in if this "immunity" claim is granted and the _Republicans_ are able to fully roll out the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025!

As a History major, i can tell you your founding fathers were inspired by Europe's Enlightenment philosophy:
- "The central doctrines of the Enlightenment were individual liberty and religious tolerance, in opposition to an absolute monarchy and the power of religious authorities."
Philosophers Rousseau and Locke, and your founding fathers, were against absolute power of Leaders ( or Kings )
The idea those so-called "originalists" Justices even considering to listen to that absurd case is like spitting on your founders' graves...

Instead of suggesting a political rival be assassinated, Justice Sotomayor should have said "a member of the federal judiciary" and see how the other members reacted.
Even if she had suggested members of the federal judiciary to be on Trump's presidential hit list during a second Trump term, those in sympathy with Trump would only be thinking to themselves "we don't have to worry about ourselves being put out on contract by Führer Trump, it's only the lefties among us, including Sotomayer, who need to worry about that."

Completely downplaying...not even mentioning Jan 6th or Trump was the conservative Justices whole strategy. Delaying this DC court case until after election a complete sham miscarriage of justice and denial of their oaths to The Constitution.

Time to get rid of term limits and corrupt judges.
Never gonna happen. That would require amending the Constitution and ratifying the amendment and too many contrarians and partisans exist now to ever get anywhere near to accomplishing that. Plus Congress will never vote to limit their own terms or the terms of SC Justices.
So unless by some magic we ever get 67+ Dems in the Senate (the 2/3s required) and THEN a 2/3 majority in the House, and THEN get 37 States to ratify term limits (which means at least half of the Red ones) you should just accept that there will never be a change in the terms of Congress or the SC as currently set forth in the Constitution. Its depressing, but the reality we face.
Their argument that it's too crazy of a hypothetical belies the question of why are you seeking immunity if it's hypothetical and unlikely? He did attempt a coup. It's not hypothetical.

Having a politically appointed judiciary with life terms is what has led to this naked corruption. The need for an independent judiciary appointed solely on legal merit, as exists in most developed countries has never been clearer.

Senator Whitehouse has been exposing their corruption, but no one does anything to them! They are positioned above the law with no oversight authority to hold them accountable. Unbridled power, unlimited gifts and financial benefits for their lifetime is allowed! Shameful! Increase SCOTUS to 13, set term limits and oversight authority, and enforce Ethics and Recusals.
