The blanking on the grill is to reduce drag & high speed lift at the front of the car. The other side needs to be an open grill for the secondary radiator so the car would either look not symmetrical or have much more drag & high speed lift without the faux grill. The only thing I didn't like about the car was the numb steering but this can be improved by disabling 'straight line running' with VCDS.
Well #2🤯🤯🤯🤯 Wow!! Just wow! You can't see where the car ends!! Try disconnecting your seatbelt and looking out the rear window. The direction that the car is travelling. How did you pass your test if you can't reverse one of the smallest cars on the market??
man i laughed out loud when you said the number 1 spot. was literally the first thing i noticed when looking at a1's today and its immediately getting changed if i get one i HATE any fake vents or mash on cars it just always looks so ugly XD
Good video. My wife has an S1 and I have an S3. The MMI on the S3 (with virtual cockpit) blows the S1 to bits. The way that the S1 knob goes anti clockwise to descend drives me crazy! The lack of left foot rest is a bit of a pain but not as frustrating as the lack of interior space...the door pockets are tiny compared to the Skoda Fabia VRS's (same basic structure). However...it's more fun to drive than the S3 and is always ready to go..whereas the S3 has to be put into the right mode. On everyday A&B roads the S1 is also quite a bit more economical than the S3 (7speed DSG). The S3 is a better M'Way car though with the longer 7th gear rapidly improving MPG and cruising noise. If I had to choose one car to go for a road trip in...it would be the S1...though the S3 is better for everyday life.👍🏻
mostly wrong. you clearly showed there is room to rest your left foot and tbh if you are resting your foot you aint driving an S1 properly. the pixel issue isnt an issue, the S1 is a drivers car, drivers arent too bothered about screen displays. the grills at the front, there is a tech reason for it. i agree with you on the reversing sight lines. the flip up screen has never bothered me. maybe raise your seat so you can see over it.
When I purchased S1 in 2016 i wish I could remove old those MMI thing’s off I don’t like any car with those MMI on board and Start stop etc , I just Love everything just SIMPLE but DRIVING PLEASURE the one reason I cancel to buy The new TT at this moment or any future face of electro manic Btw this S1 is a rare little car with character
I appreciate my S1 for following dying out features: Round steering wheel. No starter button, no useless assistant systems, propper old-fashioned clocks, if closed: no display-shit, for an "S-Audi" enjoyable quiet. And yes, the start-stop is annoying. Admitted, i am a fan of electric mobility. But i can not by any electric car. Because the electric cars have all that useless shit on board, that makes modern car unuseable for me and even more of it.
Lhd as a footrest near the door on plus side its got right hand drive wipers. Door bins are rubbish. I think because the car was born in 2010 as the A1 quattro stuff was just carried over to 2014 ie dashboard stuff..been on road 35years so manual handbrake and gear box suit me find ..wind noise at 140mph a bit much.
For the foot thing that you said . Well I own an audi a1 but it's a left hand drive car and there is plenty of space for you to put your foot of the clutch
The lack of space to the left of the clutch, is just a classic oversight that perfectly demonstrates the fact that these cars are predominantly designed for LHD use. Many RHD versions have these hangovers with poor pedal placement or instrument controls not being adapted to suit RHD. No doubt this problem was flagged by AUDI engineers, but probably deemed to expensive to re-engineer property by the VAG bean counters. I’m betting all LHD A1’s & S1’s don’t have this problem at all. Many European cars have the bonnet (hood) release handle on the Left on RHD cars & that’s one of my personal peeves being an Australian who drives RHD as well.
Yes, ich have a bag for some car-equipment like savety vest, blanket Oil... This bag is clever made with velcro fastener on bottom and side to hold it in place. I cant use it in the S1, because after 2 times of moving it, the carpet needs a shave.
I didn't know about the grill being blocked up but unless it's done for a reason? Then maybe cut the back out to create better airflow maybe? I will open a post on the forums about this
1- there isn't a place to rest your foot because they didn't bother putting in one for UK models. All other models even have the option for the foot rest 2- the RS3 center screen isn't much better than that. You could argue other models have a better center screen, but they are also not bottom of the line models, unlike the A1/S1 3- the only cars that had anything close to a sliding screen at the time the A1 came out, were the ones that had the multimedia system that the A3, A4 and TT had, and that isn't really a sliding screen. The A3 8V, which did have the sliding screen, only came from 2014 onwards iirc, and it was clear that Audi wasn't gonna completely redesign the A1/S1 into something different from what there was at the time 4- use your mirror switch to adjust the mirror, presto completo 5- grills should be open when there are reasons for them to be open. The moment you open a grill for the sake of just having it open, you lose a bit of mpg. The only reason they don't close them all, is because you NEED them, for obvious reasons
5: I am form Germany and have a LHD with a propper footrest. 4: Has no meaning to me 3: Oh, there is something behind. The last 40.000 km i dont miss it. So i leave it closed. 4. Mine has a beeper 5. Yes, this dont look cool. The audi engineers decided to have it closed, because there is nothing behind, that needs air. And closed it saves a spoonful of gas every 10.000 km. The right (open) side is hiding the additional radiator for the engine.
Centre screen quality and the dash one are really terrible for an Audi. The vents thing is highly annoying and for some reasons Audi keep adding some. The new S3 got fake one at the back now... Surprise the difference of mesh pattern on the front grill logo didn't make the list. No logo on my Audi but never understood why they choose to make the grill different under the logo for some models.
because the your it's right drive I agree with you about the foot,. For the rest, if really these are the stuffs you are looking in this car, I suggest to sell it. The new yaris grz it's a great car... with a huge lcd touchscreen monitor... just few inch from the huge back mirror on the top. So you can watch very well a movie and the back of the car, but loosing a lot in the front view driving. This is one of the last car that still have some kind of soul concerning old drive lifestyle. The really "problems" are the brakes and clutch sometimes. But it happens when you drive it, not when you look at it. I like you can hide the screen and it's so small too! you should drive not watching or doing anything else... People continue to kill ppl driving and bullshitting with smartphone in most countries. Mirroring smartphone in a car it's almost the same problem, or not?

Where did you get your front rs style grill from ?

Interesting and informative. That foot space lack thereof thing would bother me the most! Great number plate, my surname is Casey.

1.- Turbo
2.- 2 Doors
3.- Manual
4.-AWD
You need more?
For the foot thing that you said . Well I own an audi a1 but it's a left hand drive car and there is plenty of space for you to put your foot of the clutch
I got rhd a1 and there’s plenty of space I think Audi just messed the s1 up lol

I do have a satisfactory left foot rest aluminum plate.
None of those bother me about my S1, but the crappy quality of the carpet in the boot drives me insane.

i think your s1 is the bare bones in extras.. the foot rest in germany is standand!!
Yep this s1 only has hardly no extras
It's right hand drive. That's why.
Mine is a LHD with that alu-footrest. The only extra, the first owener ordered, is that useless bose-system. The footrest ist standard in LHD.
Great review mate cheers!
Why do some S1 have red frontlights and other don't?
The Red is a optional extra from new😁
@@jamesr50 thank you!

Please 10 Things you like about the Audi S1😏✌🏻😉
It’s hard to narrow down things I like about it because it’s such a good car😍🙌

I completely forgot about it tbh your right the different mesh around the logo is pretty bad why it’s a thing I don’t know😫💯
because the your it's right drive I agree with you about the foot,.

Swayed my opinion, thanks for the review 👍👌
I rate these S1’s they are so capable👌🏻
参考になりましたよ!
I own one. Comes a lot of fucking squaks from the glove compartment. 🤮 and the box in the armrest made of cheap noisy plastic.
Grill not being open, by far the worst thing wrong, reallly? Who gives a fuk?
1980s pixels lol. Maybe it's coming back in fashion?
My sun roof makes a noise
Who cares about the grill thing. Man! Who cares!
A1 is a cheap car like any other small car range a1 is like a vw lupo or up. built mainly for girls. like a terd rolled in glitter.
