Eh, depends on the high school. Not everyone can get into the DA system nor afford to do that life style. On top of it, a lot of high schools (not all) usually have 1-3 kids that are talented while the rest are mediocre. Then you have your powerhouse high schools which are teams made up of all good players. The DA system is not that great here in the US and isn't that great at recruiting or being accessible like academies overseas.

I was playing for La Jolla Nomads where we won several National championships with our club but we were all still playing high school ball as well. I did go through the Olympic Development Program (ODP) which seems to have died out in favor of DA recruiting. US soccer in general has so many problems with recruiting (to your point, people who can’t afford to play academy). We lose out on a lot of talent.

Everything also has to be less reliant on money. From paying out the ass for ID camps which tend to be scams half the time to expensive clubs/non-funded academy teams (non-MLS ones I believe unless it has changed), money shouldn't be giving people huge advantages over others in terms of talent or ability when it comes to teams and being seen.
This is a perfect game to show how much leadership players have on the field. It's a frustrating game, and whatever player can motivate their players and not get frustrated is a good leader. You're a really good player, but you just gotta play your game.
