You're a good cat daddy, Rowdy.

I had 3 kitties once in my former life that had F.A.D.-Flea Alleric Dermatitis. They had to have steroid shots for every 6 months for the remainder of their lives. And we never had fleas!! All it takes is a spec of flea dirt carried in from outside or from someone's home that might have flea dirt on their pets or their homes (carpet, furniture). Also, if your neighbors have pets, they may be broadcasting the allergens into the outdoor enviroment.
Y'all did awesome taking her to the vet and getting her the meds she needs to be happy and healthy. Oh, and GREAT JOB pilling her!!! Once again, another incredible video!!!

My cat's favorite toy was the simplest one... a shoestring with a pretty much anything tied to the end for weight. I would then toss it out like a fishing line, and slowly pull it toward me. As she really started to get into it I would start whipping it back and forth, and she would be darting from on place to the other trying to catch it.

Sam look exactly like the Siamese I had back in 1991-1994. I loved that cat, but never could come up with a good name, so she was always "Cat". My current dog, Brisco, is 15 years old and I have to give him medicine for worms and fleas/tics once a month, and joint medicine almost daily (depending on how he is doing). But it's worth it, because 15 years old he still acts like a puppy running around the house. As for the food, I use Rachael Ray products which my vet recommended and he love it, and it seems to really help him a lot all around.

I used to have a sleek black cat that liked to jump up in the air like Sam. I had a toy that ejected flying plastic discs (like mini frisbees) and he used to catch them high up in the air (maybe 5 or 6 feet). He was like a stunt dog with a frisbee. This was back in the early 90’s so there were no cell phones to record his amazing leaps 😭😭

sometimes they will pretend they swallowed it and spit out. When you give the meds, after you put it in Sam's mouth, close her mouth like you did and blow on her nose. This should make her lick her nose and when she does that she automatically swallows the pill. I have a cat and had to give meds before and when I thought he had swallowed it, later found it somewhere else.
Hope Same gets better soon :) without the meds.

    Hi Rowdy,
My cat's vet taught me how to give a cat a pill. This worked for me every time I had to give Sam (my male cat's name) a pill. I'll explain this from the perspective of right-handed person, and anyone can just reverse hands at will.
    1. Get Sam to not be suspicious. Cuddle him in my arms and walk into the bathroom while his eyes are closed, and close the door.
    2. I put Sam on my vanity, facing left... in a sitting, not standing position (him, not me)! That is important.
    3. I put my pinky and ring fingers of my right hand, behind his head. You will immediately feel where your fingers should go.
    4. Using my thumb and pointer fingers of my right hand, GENTLY tilt his head backwards.
    5. His lower jaw will be uncontrollable to him, in this position.
    6. Have the pill already between the thumb and pointer finger of my left hand.
    7. Using the middle finger of my left hand, GENTLY open his mouth.
    8. Drop the pill into his mouth.
    9. GENTLY push the pill a tiny bit into the start of his throat.
    10. Close his mouth, and GENTLY rub downward on his throat.
    11. Let go of the cat when his instinct makes him swallow, and he remembers that he can take me, in one round.
It took the vet about 30 seconds to show me how to do this, on one of Sam's visits, but to write it down? Timeless ;)

Aww poor baby! I get what you mean about not wanting to be the bad guy that does things that might make the kitty upset, like giving them pills. I tend to get unpleasant tasks like that done at the vet 😬 A small tip about playing with cats: they love a little spying & ambush, then a little light hearted hopping, then maybe high speed chase, all depend on how they’re feeling at the moment. You don’t have to try very hard to wag the toy up high all the time to give them a good time. You can start slow, using big & small household items & furniture (backpack, basket etc) as obstacles to hide the toy behind and rope them into the chase, with them having a very satisfying play session without breaking a sweat yourself 😉 I use the same strategy when play with one or up to 30 cats at one time, and they’d all be happy, save for a couple persistent toy hoggers, refusing to quit til they get the toy all to themselves 😅

Hi Rowdy. I think cats stretch by climbing. In the outdoors, by climbing trees and pulling on scratching poles. I think this is very important for their overall health. Stretches the lats, traps and scapula. I've watched some videos of cats climbing poles indoors and trees outdoors. I thought you'd find this interesting. Also, you've been an inspiration to me.

Hey Rowdy! I’m glad y’all are doing well! Just wanted to let you know I also have a cat with severe allergies, and his vet recommended putting him on a bunch of medications and steroids. I decided to switch him to raw food only, and it has helped him tremendously! He’s happy and playful all the time and doesn’t have any issues. He also doesn’t have to be on the steroids anymore. Steroids can be extremely hard on their other organs and shorten their lifespan long term. I highly recommend looking into getting Sam on raw. It may help her feel better! I hope she gets better soon and good luck to y’all!

I would Definitely filter the water. I'm in Denver and all of our run off water has unhealthy stuff in it. Most of Colorado has very hard water and those minerals could be causing problems. Also, keep her inside. We have coyotes. Could have been the cleaning solution in the carpet cleaner, or a chemical in the carpet. There is also a supplement called dynavite.

Just a tip, when playing with her, let her catch the toys and hold on to them for a few seconds, dragging the toy across the floor slowly also helps! This can mimic an actual hunt for a cat, they need to feel like they can catch their prey :)

My kitty was having a really bad skin rash for almost a year. Our regular very tried steroids and antibiotics, but those only worked a little while. We had to go to a specialist dermatologist vet. We went through more rounds of antibiotics and steroids, but for a much longer period, and a flea, tick and mite prevention meds. That finally worked. Turns out she is allergic to skin mites. Hopefully Sam's rash is cleared up permanently.

After buying a ton of the feather attachments I found some little "mice" that he loves - my kitty actually plays "fetch" like a dog, if you can believe that! He'll play it until I just quit, funniest thing I've ever seen! You should get a package of "mice" and try that! They're much cheaper on Amazon than the feathers LOL! The same thing happens to my kitty in the winter. We had no idea why he was scratching his head and neck raw and we spent a lot of money at the vet and on medicine at first. This year we bought a humidifier and, I was shocked to see that he doesn’t scratch anymore! So it may just be too dry for her, maybe try out a humidifier if it happens again!

Rowdy love your channel and hearing your adventures. I noticed all your videos have captioning on bottom. Do you do that in editing or is that a UA-cam feature? It only appears on your channel just curious how that gets done. Thanks and keep the journey going.

That’s a cool rug. I used to have one just like it. It really tied the room together. Maybe you should try putting it in a closet for a while because my skin used to itch a little after I would do sit ups on mine.

We've had that rug forever and it never caused any issues, so I doubt it's the culprit, unfortunately.

Natural remedies for treating pets with allergies : Omega 3 fatty acids decrease the tendency for your pet's immune system to overreact. Be patient, as it may take 3-6 weeks for the fatty acids to be incorporated into the cells in the body and ease allergy symptoms. Super Pure Omega 3 Soft Chews may be the most helpful of all fatty acid products because of its purity and ease of assimilation. If your pet is finicky, try Super Pure Omega 3 Liquid which can be mixed in with your pet's food.

First, love your channel and Sam, I have many kitties of my own! Second, you don't want to keep her on steroids as often they cause alot of medical problems and when you try to decrease or stop they can cause actually cause worsening of symptoms. Things to rule out: is she on a once month prescription flea treatment-if so stop for at least a month, if she improves she may have developed an allergy to it just like us humans can do after time with meds.
If she's not on a regular prescription flea treament, get her on one, often the non rx products are ineffective, and the histamines that are causing this could be related to simply a different kind of flea where you live now.
I hope she's much better, but if not these are some things you can try if you haven't yet, otherwise I have further suggestions. ( Long time working with cats and people's allergies lol) I wish Sam the best!

    hi Rowdy,
I used to have to pill our cat too. The easiest way for me was to swaddle her in a towel, so she couldn't scratch me or get away. Works like a charm!
You did pretty well on your first try 👍
It most likely is the new food since she didn't show allergies to your new place since you've been there a couple of months now.
Have you ever got Sam a catnip mousie? Mine loves it. 💯

Yea, we were originally doubtful that it was the new food because it took over 6 weeks for the symptoms to appear- but we switched out the food anyway.
Turns out Sam is not a fan of catnip!

She could be detoxing the old food and grains. Medicine will just suppress the toxins. Animals tend to detox through the head and eye area. A slow transition with food will help. We feed a raw diet, natural things like raw fish and chicken. I really like for ease of feeding the primal food, ours really like the frozen over the dehydrated. Anyway blessings and I will keep Sam in my prayers. btw, steroids are very hard on the adrenals which do operate the kidneys. #LOVE

You can get "pill pockets" at pet store that would make it much easy. She'll think it's food and will just swallow it.
