I studied in 3 schools from 1956-65 & lived with my second Mom in Tai Hang Road. I love the ' Ding Ding ' & would take a ride every time in Hong Kong (HK) after 1971 when I started my career in Thailand. HK is my second home to Bangkok & I shall visit in November 2024 for my DBS Class of '64 's 60th Reunion. ALL THE BEST TO HONG KONG!
Thats awesome! I love reading stories like this, feels visceral. Thanks for sharing! Lots have changed in HK but largely remains the same. See for yourself next year 🙂

2:30 that is insane, they're still running the trams during construction / renovation. Great efficency. In my country they'd shut down the whole line for 1 month to repave that section.
you're right! you'll see a lot of roadworks in HK but gov't puts a great deal on people and goods mobility so its rare that transit operations are halted for these roadworks.
Yeah, we need to do that like that in Europe too, here in Czechia some tram or train rails are shut down for weeks or months or it's going only on one rail instead of 3 and very often you don't see anyone working there or you see 1 person working and another 5 people watching him 😀 But I would say these reconstructions in cities are planned pretty well, problem is with big trains manager by company which owns train trails in most of the country, sometimes it feels like they don't know what they are doing, but in Prague it's pretty efficient, I remember few years ago, there was a ship as replacement for not working tram because it was next to river, that was really cool, people were riding there just to have a free ship ride. 😀
Yet another facet of this city of which I was unaware. As if I didn't have enough reasons to want to visit... not there are these lovely double-deckers I have to ride! Sign me up.
I travel in holiday form end to end by only 50cents HKD , since 1979.... my dating ,my trip alone , my new camera testing .... Tram is one of the icon of HK
Thanks for sharing the video. We will go in 2026 and we will ask for the Octopus card. Do we have to swipe the card when entering the tram and when exiting too? How do we know the price of the journey and how do we know if we have enough money on the card for the journey? It's very strange
hey, my pleasure! no, just upon exit. one tram ride is HKD 3.00. You will know your Octopus balance when you tap in farebox. If you have coins, you can use that as well.
It didn't, have a closer look and you'll see that it was red/amber as the tram was approaching the traffic lights, that indicates "get ready to go" so the tram is in the clear, the driver will not receive a fine in the mail, if it was a full red light, yes, different story
@@planetX15 If you have even closer look, you will see that the traffic light you are referring to is green for right turn only, but is red for all other directions.
agree! althought I think there is a resurgence of neon art in HK as new generation of neon artists and advocates are pushing for it, so I'm hope neons will come back to HK streets 😉
I'm not familiar with the differences of the two but in my mind, streetcar, tram and even trolley are sort of interchangeable. Hong Kong calls it tram. Would love to hear how you would differentiate them :)

thank you, appreciate that! that's a great idea! 👌🏼
The "Ding Ding" Bell sound reminds me of Bombay's BEST Buses!
oh, I had a look at BEST buses and they do look and sound the same! interesting
Nice ride: new subsriber from Amsterdam. We have a lot of tramway there too, but no double-decks ;-)
great! i did a short course in Amsterdam and urban cycling. love your city. Hope I can return soon 😊

The Tram 🚊 ride from Shau ki Wan to Kennedy Town.
yes, this is the longest tram route, I happened to ride the Western market route 😀
Is the Wan King path near there?
oh no, quite far actually. Wan King Path is in the New Territories (northern part of Hong Kong)
Awesome and Thanks
Most welcome 😊
Good stuff..
thanks Ted, appreciate that!

One of the oldest tram route in the world. Established in 1904.
that is correct!
Thanks for the great video; that was a fascinating view of a city I'm unlikely to ever visit.

my favorite traffic tool in HK

Do they always start from the very first station then end at the very last station? :) planning to try tram next week!
pretty much, yes. there are I think 3 routes. the longest one ends at Kennedy town. Enjoy! 😊
It takes alot of skill to keep your balance on the upper deck. Great video!
thanks for saying that! I didnt use a tripod so it was definitely manual labour 😊
Ding Ding is a 60 plus year old Hong Kong slang for tram ride !
oh wow, that's a way to keep culture alive!
I was somehow expecting way heavier car traffic. Was this video shot on a bit quieter day or time perhaps?
partly correct. This was shot om a Saturday morning so traffic volume is fewer but generally traffic in this corridor isnt all that bad I would say 😊
Why so few people on the road? what time is it?
this is early morning on a Saturday. day's just getting started :)

sure you can! 😊
Best seat at a very cheap price. Kitang kita ang ganda ng transpo system. Tyaga ng pag film.
thanks Fatima! something tells me you'll be riding the tram in person very soon ☺️
How much is the ride?
a whopping HKD 3.00 (USD 0.40) :)

all the more to visit soon then 😊

@EdgyNumb.. those neon signs used be a special features of HongKong . They made HongKong looks more beautiful . 😊
Looks like Hong Kong has not many people now.....
hmm, actually still so many people, maybe its because the video was shot eariy Saturday morning :)

Hong Kong double decker trams are only suitable for those of shorter height and of slim build.
it is a bit a struggler for bigger and taller riders, but if you get a seat, should be ok ;)
hi👋
hello 👋🏻
Ive only had a short ride on it but this time I am going the full length, I'm back in January 25. 🚋
weather is good, so it'll be a good ride too
Does it go back? For example the HK airport is to the west, does it turn back around or do we have to purchase new ticket?
@@hyukri you have to pay another fare as it turns around to the other direction :)
@@walkinginasia thanks so much 🥲 lastly, HK dollars are accepted right?
@@hyukri of course :D
