The shadow and light side is actually a damn good gimmick cus it gives yokais their monstrous forms, and gives them fighting capabilities meanwhile the lightside are the more wacky abilities they usually have
The giant traditional Asian beast that Pokémon's Arcanine is based on? I'd say that's more on the cool side instead of cute but hey, opinions are opinions (he's still awesome)
