Cheap guy dead stick trick I picked up last year. Make a drop shot rig but just use a split shot. Set your hook up however far up you want to fish, drop the weight to the bottom ta-da you are set no matter how deep of water you fish. This also (almost) always leaves a tiny bit of slack in the line to give the fish a second to chew. Far and away the most productive dead stick year I ever had... dang near beat out active fishing.

The smaller C10 version would also work well, especially if you want to be a little more versatile for eater sized walleye.
