  • This is a circular walk around and down the red sandstone escarpment at Alderley Edge, heading down towards the waterfall and back up to the Hearth of Albion, known as The Edge,160 meters above the Cheshire plain.
Also viewing Castle Rock, The Armada Beacon, The Engine Vein, Stormy Point and The Wizard cafe. Several areas are suffering from the constant rain and the National Trust are working to repair pathways and prevent further erosion effecting the old mining caves.

Sunshine and no rain, a rare thing, had to get out, although some of the mud was impossible to get through. The houses around there all look like hotels.

That was where I first got interested in going underground. I was on a geology field trip down the mines there, and thereafter started exploring old mines elsewhere, and then moved on to potholing in natural cave systems for a few years. It must be three or four years since we last strolled around the area, but it's always enjoyable there. I love some of the aerial shots Steve - they really showed up the terrain to advantage, in a way you can't appreciate from the ground.

I bet that was really enjoyable to do, not sure if I would get claustrophobia or not in those caves. I read that a new mineshaft was discovered there in 2022, the cobalt mine, also that the Derbyshire Caving Club are helping with various problems caused by the extra rainfall over the last year, and one area would be too expensive to save, so it will be left to collapse. I do like all the information boards the National Trust put around the area with not just the history but current news.

I think the DCC look after the mines. I think it was they who admitted nd guided us on the field trip so long ago.@@lancsway

We have done short walks through woodlands of Alderney Edge. I know we have been to castle rock recognised in your film. A very nice relaxing walking area Steve and gentle arpeggio piano chord progressions music. (Jeanie looked well wrapped up.) We found a nice pub near the entrance for refreshments afterwards.

It was a good walk if a little muddy lower down around the stream. Had a bit of a panic when the little dog looked like it was about to jump over the edge. Very popular even mid week. Brought back memories as I used to work at a music school there many years ago.
