Hua Hua said this before performing Bullfighting at Singer 2020.
“As time goes on, my thoughts turn towards my relation to the world at large. The more I think more about the subject, the more I place myself in the third person view when I’m looking at something. In this song, I sing about an actual bullfight. I watched one in person. As an audience, my personal opinion is that bullfighting; it’s not thrilling, not rousing. It’s a contradiction. This person and this bull - when one side faces victory, the other side faces certain death. It is something tragic. This song of mine, in the end, it tells the story of this person and this bull. They are both warriors. At that moment in time, the two lives are equal.”
Bullfight is very deep. Hua believes that bullfighters are equal to bulls. This entertainment is cruel. So he wrote this song after watching a bullfighting event abroad.
Huahua is a genius for me. There are many good singers in this world, but Hua Chenyu is unique. We need this kind of artists today.
Nothing is more valuable than uniqueness
Mer means moo. Someone dragged HuaHua to a bullfight in Spain; he was horrified. This song is the result. He says this was the hardest song he ever wrote; it took him a full month. He didn't write the lyrics, but he has a lot of influence on them. HuaHua prerecorded all of the backing vocals, including the descant. Watch the MV of this song, and you will understand the lyrics and the purpose of the song. The lyrics end with the thought that kindness is the only hope for mankind. I discovered Hua Chenyu from a fellow BTS fan on a patreon and fell in love with his music. He is now one of my favorite artists. He is so talented.
The Asian singing competition competitors are always famous singers. This won't be found in the USA or UK shows. Western artists won't risk their status by losing in a show like this. I believe the "Artistry" in the Asian shows is sensational... I'm so glad you guys discovered the unique greatness of Hua Hua. I consider him to be one of the world's greatest "performance artists" if not the greatest...Old Timer from Texas.
Bullfighting is a very different song. The grigorian chant opera was his pre-recorded voice.

Hua Chenyu stands out.. he is above and beyond…. theres none like him in China either. There are ofcourse plenty excellent singers, but most of them very traditional mainstream. Underground music is more interesting than the regular chinese pop chart idols. No offense meant, my opinion based on my taste in music only.

He was the king of Singers in 2020 and won this episode. The prerecorded backing vocals are his. He sang all his songs from his album except one during the competition. While singers like to cater for the market he persistently follows his own aesthetics. You should watch the readapted version of this song from his 2024 concert. Totally shocking!

You can always check Hua Chenyu English Subs, as they translate most everything. Hua Hua watched a bullfighting for the first time and was, well, appalled. We should respect all life and nature. By the way, yes, the high melodic notes being sung was pre-recorded by Hua Hua.
You mentioned the song Madhouse. Not sure if anyone told you, but this is the 2nd song of trilogy. 1st is I really want to love this world (about fighting depression). 2nd is Madhouse (aka OCD). 3rd is Conversations with Martian Children. As far as I know, the 3rd song and the song I Don't Care are the only ones he wrote the lyrics himself. I would like to suggest watching the entire trilogy for full effect. ❤😊
Hello, Conversation with the Children of Mars was written by HuaHua and some Martians, the only song HuaHua wrote his lyrics is Why Nobody Fights, one sentence, 3 words 😆❤

This piece of music is so unique and layered, HuaHua's voice going from very low to "coloratura" I think it is, the rap tirade and that scream at the end, simply amazing! And it's so fun to go "ME-ER" (That's the chinese expression for the mowing of the bull) with HuaHua at the concert 😂 Obviously I love listening to HuaHua's music, but watching him perform is the best!
This video from Singer 2020 doesn't give emphasis on the main character of the song, i.e. the drum beats. It's too muted in this version. If you listen to the music video or his album, the drum beats are amazing. Thank you for your reaction.
In 2018- dimash qudaibergen recomposed-rearranged 'sinful passion' to make this song his own and when he was performing the song the dears were being surprised and impressed at his vocals. hua chenyu in the the same year composed-wrote 'bullfighting' and when he was performing this song the martians were being shocked and amazed by his composition skills, his new low tone rap style and how he was able to combine different styles + genres in such a advanced way.
I believe Dimash adopted Hua's rap style later for his song Be With Me.

The Singer competition is friendly, of course there is a winner but everyone is rooting for each other, everyone gets along. This is beautiful to watch. In China, teachers use HuaHua's music to teach not only music but other subjects. There is a university that wakes up students with his music to wake up the entire campus, if I'm not mistaken it's 6am 😅😅🥰🥰
He won the whole show, and it is a show for professional singers, it was celebration every week we got a new episode,. Part of it was during lockdown, but we still got it digital version without live audience. So many good performances. I agree, he is a true artist, going in and out of the box, or serveral boxes. Quasimodo's Gift is a lovely song with a classical twist to it. One of his earliest songs so you can have a feel of younger HCY and the present maturing artist he's become.
Hua Chenyu is an insanely good composer and obviously a very versatile singer! I love him for all the strength his music gives me.
Hua Chenyu always incorporates his philosophical ideas into his music. His music always inspires me to think, and liking him will make me better. His concert is called 'Mars', which is our home. We are Martians, and Mars is our utopia.
I truly recommend the music video of bullfighting, I can't help crying every time I watch the music video. You can know what this song presents more with the MV.

Take care of our environment. Being kind to every living being in this world. About Big love. The operatic voice you hear is Hua Chenyu's prerecorded voice, this part has no lyrics it is just vocalising and represents a third party looking down from above on our planet and the Bullfight. What would this third party/higher entity think of us humans while watching this? In the rap part Hua Chenyu is telling us that we Humans must do better and take good care of our planet and environment because: Following our kind nature - (is) -the last pride and chance of the victory of mankind. Which is the last lyric of this song.

For your information, almost all the songs Hua performed in Singer 2020 were not well-known to the voting public because the songs are from his fourth album "New World" which was released only in early April 2020, while Singer 2020 started recording in February. However, he had introduced the new songs during his 2019 concerts and had performed one or two at award shows and other shows.
If I'm not mistaken, there were three songs he performed in Singer 2020 which he rearranged or composed for the stage. It's amazing how the voting audience ranked him first, four times out of ten rounds despite being unfamiliar with many of his songs. Hua won the title Singer 2020 with over 51% of the votes. Hua Hua is one of the most creative artist out there. I have been following him since singer
2018. I wish he did concerts outside China.
There is the obvious aspect of speaking out against animal crulty, but it also parallels the bullfighter with the bull - being both heroicly fighting for fame/survivival, but also being bound to animal instinct, being slave to his environment as much as the bull. We don't decide the rules and the game, we only react to the choices given. We follow what society dictates. We think of ourselves as individuals with freedom and free thinking, but yet we follow what everyone else does, what we are each conditioned to believe. We only see a few options and imagine one or two outcomes, rather than imagine other paths and outcomes. The bull either fights or die (two possibel outcomes), Same with people, you succeed or fail.
We easily get excited and accept things that perhaps we should second guess in stead of being carried away by political intrigue and what not - just like people get excited and high cheering for something rather cruel, like a bullfight. People are inclined to mob mentality and thus not superior to animals. When we are gone, another will take our place - just like the bulls in the arena.

The first song was a song that he rearranged along with his duet partner within 24 hours. The second song was from a musical and has that Broadway feel that I think Richard in particular will really enjoy since he likes musical theatre. Illusion and Reality (Mars 2023) will be a good one
Hua has a lyricless song named "Cancer". In 2014 he was asked to compose a song about cancer. They asked him to do something "cheerful". But he made the song his own way.
And the result was rather shocking.
I highly recommend it.
Cancer is his most extreme song. I won't recommend to do a single reaction to it because not many people will watch it. The song is meant to make you feel fear. It will make you feel extremely uncomfortable. When Hua Chenyu performed Cancer for the first time he said to the audienceIt: "If you can't bear listen to it. It is ok to shut your ears." It is meant to raise awareness of the desease. And this is exactly what it does. Hua Chenyu hopes that everyone will take good care of their bodies after they listened to it.
