How to Install a Microwave // Over The Range

- Quick break from woodworking this week to show you how I installed a new microwave in our kitchen. When the nice gentleman at Lowes told me it would be $120 to have it installed I decided to do it myself. It was easier than I expected and the install went perfectly. This over the range model is convertible to connect to a duct that goes out of the house but we went with the recirculating option. I've linked below to the exact model but check your local big box stores as well. I hop this video is helpful!

You did it! $120 saved! And probably countless hours dealing with a contractor too. Keep up the good work!
It was one of those rare situations where everything went as planned!!
@@RLLWoodworks love the and diy too! Good idea
Big rebrand going on over here!
I was just talking about getting a new microwave, now I know how easy it is to replace 👍👏👏
A man of your skills and abilities will have no problem my friend!
This was helpful. I don't feel so intimidated for my upcoming replacement.
I’m so glad to hear!! It was definitely one of those projects that having done it once would go way quicker the second time. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
Very informative! Thank you
Good job sir. That's very helpful.
Thanks for watching I’m glad it helped!!
Thanks to you, I’ll be saving some $$$ Your video was very helpful. 👍🏻‼️
So glad to hear!
Good job. Thank you.👍🏻
08/2024... Lowes (and most every other store in Tyler, TX) now charge $149 for installation + $50 to haul off the old microwave. Folks need to be aware, a microwave will typically weigh 60 +/- pounds. This Old Timer (70 yr old) is getting ready to give removal and installation a try.
I'm thinking my technique will be to leave the range in place and to "build up layers" under the microwave to position as close as possible so that manhandling the unit is minimized. We'll see how it goes...
That’s really smart. You got this!
Great video thanks
You’re welcome!
Nice, but you did not show how to use templates. Did you trim templates? Specifically the upper template had to be folded or trimmed along the solid lines, right? Proper use of templates is critical to successful installation.
Fantastic video! Does the bracket really need to be replaced? I’m getting the exact same brand as my old one - just a newer model. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the bracket is the same.
Thanks I hope it helped! I think if the brackets are the same you definitely wouldn’t need to replace it. Try getting the new one out of the box and compare before taking the old one off. Good luck!
@@RLLWoodworks Done! It took 10 minutes. Thankfully it was the exact same bracket. I even used the same screws. There were no paper templates so it would have been much more complicated to drill new holes etc. You saved me $130! Thanks again. 🤗
Same case here, I am going to pick up my new MW tomorrow, can’t wait 50days for the same model, hope the bracket works, I don’t want to drill two new holes either
Do i need to use the butterfly screws bc I don't have a tool to drill those in?
I used a different brand and I just installed but I noticed that the top bolts thread in but then just spin. Is this normal. I seems solid but that puzzles me .
That’s strange mine definitely pulled right like you would expect but if it’s sturdy it must be okay. Thanks for watching!
Nice, thanks.
Thanks for watching glad it helped!
Or does the new GE come with the vent the correct way
I had to change the vent to be the right orientation before installing it. The instructions help walk through that part.
Can I use the same holes from my last microwave??? or do they have to be the one the paper says?
I had to drill a couple new ones even though I got the same model just newer. But as long as your bracket is in the studs, I think you’ll be fine.
Did you have to do anything with the fan vent?
There are two options. The one I chose blows the filtered air back up into the kitchen out of two vents on the top of the microwave. Other option is to connect it to an exhaust that goes out of the house if you have one.
Your video was extremely helpful and insightful. Though I am not a "DIYer" ha ha you sure make it seems easy. Well, I'm going to give it and try. Wish me luck and thanks for the video.
You got this! 💪🏻
Does it have a popcorn button? Is that even still a thing?
Heck yeah it has a popcorn button. Only the best here at RLL Industries 🤣
why not just do 2 studs
Thank You Sir
