- If you've been following me awhile, you know I have a thing about all those DJ-subscription labels not always making things better, especially intros; or not knowing correct phrasing/structure sometimes because they were interested in using every version in the promo double pack and couldn't see beyond it when creating an edit. And I was spending crazy money as I subscribed to all of them over the span of my career.
This song did actually have proper intro that was in time. For some reason neither the engineer nor Atlantic paid attention, though, as the phrasing is off, which makes it impossible to overlay the intro. Silence has a beat.
Unfortunately this was released around the time when we were getting Arthur Bakered, so everyone wanted to throw in those stutter edits he became known for, and there are some "off" places. I have no idea why they thought it would be good to cycle the very last refrain using one of those stutters, as a pick up to a vocal, but they did. I fixed it. They extended the promo 12" Solitaire by cycling the guitar and those choruses and when it was time for the lead out, it fell back into the proper place. I may have to look to see who mixed it because I don't think it was Jack White.
If only someone had told us that 4 years later, we'd go through something similar because they made acid house versions of EVERYTHING.
Slowly but surely, I'm going to try to pick up using trick edits again, since I need another trick in my bag other than phasing.
