Brilliant piece of acting, also how the wife just stood there calmly, without words trying to figure a way to reassure him it wasn't as bad as he thought that things can be fixed. Reminded us all of our wives. Portman was equally fantastic.

You missed the most important part of it.. he freaked cause he was forced to kill his friend back there to come back.. and he came back changed and hurting for what he has done.. he never talked about it.. it's not only about the affaire his wife and brother had but it's about what he had to do to come back and realizing once he's back that his family was moving on from him.. you make him sound jealous the way you explained it.. but he wasn't jealous.. he was hurt and felt betrayed while at the same time couldn't live with what he's done.. all of this made him Snap..
