So, in other words it is a system which keeps prices for shoppers artificially high by effectively imposing a ‘tax’ via a minimum pricing system paid by the consumer, which is used to guarantee a payment to farmers which does not necessarily reflect the market price for their goods, ie the payment is over generous.
It is also a system which artificially keeps prices high, again at the detriment to consumers, by imposing tariffs on food from outside the EU which, at best, makes them no cheaper than EU produce but in reality makes them more expensive even though that food is substantially cheaper to produce because overseas growers can benefit from economies brought about by infrastructure investment, something EU farmers do not have to do as they are guaranteed a good income regardless, courtesy of the consumer’s pockets.
I can understand such a system being of use in the aftermath of WW2 to ensure security of supply (although it wasn’t introduced until 18 years afterwards and wasn’t fully operational until a further 8 years later) but in this modern age is it still relevant?
How does a system that takes money from the consumers’ pocket and pays it to French farmers (who are by far and away the largest recipients) help the people of Europe?

UGH. So, European Parliament which supported the production of this video knows what has been wrong with CAP very well, but, simply doesn't act. What's the point of a knowledge without action? Please think of your children when voting for next cycle of CAP!!!

This video is created by the green party in the EP. Many of the solutions, as well as the framing of the problem is hence political. If the conservative party would have made a video on CAP, I bet it would look quite different. However, I do agree that the decision-making is quite lame and always center/center-right stagnant, and I do agree of the framing of the problem as well as the solutions presented, and I do agree that we should all engage in the voting, not only regarding the CAP but in all EP elections forward.
