Your instinct is correct because he was there the see the Shadowboxers and they invited him up to do a number. No practice, warm-up, arraignment, nothing. Just sang it cold. He's a whole other level performer.
I love watching the guys in the bands reactions. I don't think they knew what was going on. They seem amazed and shocked every time Chris opened his mouth. lol Priceless
What man can cover soooo many genres and absolutely own them like Chris? Country, bluegrass, rock, southern rock, metal, pop, r&b, blues, soul, Motown, I cant think of nobody. It's hard to admit but vocally Chris slapped a red mark on the ass of James Brown on this one and I love James Brown. Chris is something like you won't see again in a long time, if ever.
I have to respectfully disagree with you about James Brown's ass being slap. I have seen James Brown perform this song live( I'm 68). What I will say is both give equally amazing performances. PS, I discovered Chris at the height of the pandemic, and all I could say was, why have I never heard of this amazing talent before?
Your willingness to watch/ listen to diverse content has earned you a sub from me. I honestly wish that I was more open to stepping outside my comfort zone.
Coming from a big family, my sibs all listen to different genres, so I’ve always had wide variety and listen to a a lot of different stuff so I’m always willing to step into some new and music works in mysterious ways. But I appreciate the sub and the love! 🙏🏾💙
Now I'm assuming this was on someone's phone at the club can you imagine if this was done live with a camera crew or in the studio❤❤❤❤ he never ceases to blow my mind❤❤❤❤ have you checked out death row I am a subscriber but I don't know every Chris Stapleton song you've done and to me that is my favorite other than the live I was wrong live at Austin City Limits and Sometimes I Cry at the Bing Lounge❤❤
Be sure to check out Chris Stapleton singing "Traveller" on David Letterman. Also, look for "What Are You Listening To". It's a video, but performed at a radio station.
Another guy you'd like, who DRIPS with soul and actually sounds alot like Chris, is a guy from Louisiana by name of Marc Broussard. Listen to his version of Cry to Me. Or Home. He sounds as good raw as studio. He doesn't NEED studio help. He's got it all, all by himself.
The Godfather of Soul was from South Carolina. It takes ANOTHER Country Boy from Kentucky to do justice. Soul has no color. Sure there are singers that can hit the notes perfectly but it takes that little something extra to make you FEEL IT in your bones. James had IT. Chris has IT. Susan Tedeschi has IT. Derek Trucks' fingers have IT. Warren Hayes has IT. There's a few more but it's a short list.
Need to go to his original breakout song and react to What Are You Listening To - Live. Different from the rest of the songs you’ve done and shows his writing skills.
He was called up on stage. Then was called by the audience to sing this song..No practice before. Awesome impov
