One thing I really like about the Acorn family is how the parents say to them a hat is just a hat, but when Pistachio pulls out his acorn hat from them, it shows even though they don't really understand his thing with fashion, they still tried to get him something they thought he would like

When Derpy says "What if she opens it? It shouldn't go to Sweet Apple Acres!" she sounds just like she did in Slice of Life. I think in this episode, she's putting on a 'customer service' voice.

Eh maybe you already know, but the reason why she sounds the same is because most of the ponies who had speaking lines in Slice of Life (Derpy, Dr. Hooves, Rose, Lyra, Bon Bon, Octavia, DJ-Pon 3) were promoted to supporting roles for later seasons and they have an established voice actor

I would like to take a moment to mourn marble pie, she was heartbroken.T^T
First thing I said when I saw that moment was, "Give that mare a stallion!" I did ship MarbleMac (before Sugar Belle started dating Big Mac) so that part did hurt.
It felt strangely out of place, personally speaking. The rest of the song montage was holiday rush, family, and movie references. Nothing else sad.
The number of Christmas movie references in this one was crazy. Elf, Home Alone 2, Charlie Brown. It just keeps going.
It was a little odd how..., um, slow they made Derpy talk, though I suppose she was frantic in Slice of Life.

My theory for Derpy acting so differently in this episode is that she was just fucking high. Like to deal with the stress of a mail carrier during the holidays she and the rest of Ponyville's postal crew just have this stash of weed in the back. So when she's talking with Rarity she's already blitzed into a state of pure calm. And when she just went "break time" she can feel her high dropping so she goes back to take another hit.

Well I remember them doing a Heartswarming episode in May, so this isn't too surprising. :)
This was a fun holiday special. Everything was pretty much great. Applejack was on point, I actually loved Discord's trolling in this one. I normally hate when they focus on the whole Rarity/Spike thing, but I actually didn't mind it too much here.
Derpy actually talked! Yay. Though she sounded different then the slice of life episode. Same VA though.
Twilight's freak out moments were ones I missed, though the face she made when she said pudding freaked the heck out of me.
Seeing Flim and Flam again was nice, though I think that Fluttershy was acting like that was just weird, she seemed so naive in this to me.
Especially since she knows Flim and Flam, but I didn't mind too much since I loved seeing Flim and Flam a lot in this.
Loved seeing Rarity with the other farmer ponies, you pretty much know that she wouldn't be willing to take the hat back.
Loved seeing Shining Armor, Cadance and Flurry Heart as well. Just a lot of fun as a whole.
Overall a great special, really liked it.
If Applejack’s dad GAVE APPLEJACK that hat, then that means she’s seen her dad before so, she has also seen her mom so how didn’t she know that her mom was a pear.

It took me until the end of the episode to realize the reindeer where the equestria versions of the ghosts of Christmas past present and future
I loved Rarity's arc more than any of her episodes, honestly. To me, it showed her generosity traits while traveling in a line of plot where nothing felt rushed or added for plot conveniences. Helped a lot that best established pony (you know who) and best new pony (Pistachio) were a part of it too.
