It’s so unfortunate that Jim Peck never got a bigger role as a game show host after 3’s a Crowd killed his career (wasn’t his fault) aside from other pilots and filling in for both Jack Barry and Bill Cullen on The Joker’s Wild. He is the definition of underrated. You’re doing a great job with these pilots recently, Wink. Thank you so much. ❤️❤️
Jim got a bad break as Jack Barry had planned on retiring after the first episode of Joker in 1984 and to announce that Jim would be taking over as permanent host. As it happened, Jack had a massive heart attack in May 1984 and died, and Dan Enright ended up hiring Bill Cullen to take over the reigns instead during Joker's last 2 seasons. Bill will always be my favorite game show emcee, but he was a terrible choice and fit for The Joker's Wild. Odds are it would have been only a 2 year run for Jim Peck too as by 1986, Wheel and Jeopardy were by far and away the two giants in syndicated game shows, making Tic Tac and Joker obsolete.
Jim Peck was going to be the new host of The Joker's Wild, upon Barry's retirement as host. But after Barry died, presumably Dan Enright passed Peck over in favor of Bill Cullen.
This begs the question...was Jim Peck considered for The Joker's Wild 1990 revival since he hosted this pilot not long after? He also would have been a great Card Sharks or Gambit host!
Jim Peck's game show career was going pretty steady...then 3's a Crowd sent it straight off a cliff. Too bad he never found a long-term permanent gig, save for when he was pegged to replace Jack Barry on The Joker's Wild. I always thought he was a very underrated host.
That was such rough luck on Jim's part, if Jack had survived, Jim would have taken over on the joker's wild. Now I do think Joker was starting to lose momentum once jeopardy & wheel debuted in syndication. But with Jack still around producing, I think he would have done enough to extend the run a little longer.
It’s essentially the bonus round of Hot Potato (which is essentially the unsold Decisions Decisions) with playing cards. Not a bad game, and Jim Peck does a solid job as always.
This is a May 1990 pilot episode on the American unsold game show "Suit Yourself", hosted by Jim Peck. The 3 contestants competing on this only pilot episode are Annalisa, Kory & Brynn. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
This was a good pilot. I honestly think Jim could have made a comeback doing this, even though I think he was doing Divorce Court as court reporter at that time
The fate was sealed when you saw "produced 1990" 90s were about purging the norm which means they wanted sleaze and stupidity Yes this would have also been a great 2001-2003 GSN or Pax show Just was thought of at worst time for the genre
This was a really good show! Jim Peck was a great game show host who deserved a hit ( though I liked him on the Big Showdown)! Thank you, Wink for finding this pilot that should have been picked up!
Kind of tricky really. MASH had 251 episodes total, but in syndication, some of the hour long "single" episodes were broken up into 2 parts "Welcome to Korea", "Bug Out", "Fade Out/Fade In" and "That's Show Biz" which were the first episodes of Seasons 4, 5, 6 and 10 respectively. There were some actual 2 parters on MASH though "Comrades In Arms" and "Snap Judgement/Snappier Judgement". So I think that may be why there is some confusion or ambiguity about that question.
A great pilot that should've sold. This was made the same year as the Name That Tune revival pilot with the late Peter Allen was made, 1990. Since both were executive produced by Martin Pasetta. I would believe Stephen Radosh (Catch Phrase) created and produced it as well.
I would also say that Wink Martindale would have also been a great choice for Joker's Wild....If only he turned down the job of hosting his own creation produced by Merv Griffin, Headline Chasers! Also, he could've hosted BOTH Joker's Wild and Tic Tac Dough during the same season(s)!
This was a decent game... as always, Jim Peck is the lovable and consummate professional host. The set was certainly a technical marvel for its time as well. The gameplay, however, could have used some pretty significant tweaks to make it a bit more exciting. I'll grade this one a B-. If they would have had more time to tweak things and shoot a second or third pilot, it's possible that this could have been picked up for syndication, but most likely never aired during coveted time slots.
it's strange that this is a 30 minute show because it feels like it took an hour. So much mechanical fluff Jim had to explain and moderate, it didn't play to Jim's strengths. The question format was nice and end game was great, but the house card mechanic ate up so much time and the double card mechanic added so much RNG.
@@neumannsod Random number generation. A little adds suspense and adds value to the actions taken before the random element, a lot drains any investment from the rest of the show.
Wink-I love your youtube page .You have so many game show pilots and rareties I was wondering if you have the 2 pilots of "The Chase' that were produced for Fox TV in 2012 ? Bradley Walsh hosted these 2 pilots for Fox ..Mark Labbett "The Beast " was in one episode and Brad Rutter was in the other episode.
Had the player lost the bonus game, I wonder if they still would have won something like $100 for each card on the board or for every correct answer given.
Great concept thought of as game shows were dying out in the early 90s. This gets picked up of it was say 1984... As for staying power I think the frontgame questions were def a little hard but that could be fixed Great idea but as soon as I saw 1990 I knew why this failed...90s wanted sleaze and stupid not smart wholesome fun Good show born too late :D
Bad timing for the show, as we all know 1990 was the death mostly for game shows, I think if it was 4-5 years earlier like another passeta show, (catch phrase) it would have been picked up for sure, also like other commenters, Jim beck criminally underrated. Thank you so much wink for these great pilots.
They ripped off one of the contestants. She guessed right and they said it was wrong. MASH had 256 episodes while Bewitched had 254, I protest and suggest they re-tape it today to correct their mistake.
Another wrong answer from the show. Arsenio Hall was 31 in 1987, but The Arsenio Hall Show didn't premiere until 1989. This show was taped in 1990. Another rip off for a contestant. Kinda shocking.
For someone that's been a fan of game shows for over 40 years, I've seen a ton of them. This one, though, it's rather dull. Host is perfectly fine, but can't save this show.
I appreciate how nice everyone is in the comments, but I am a bit surprised to learn that I'm the only one who finds this show to be absolute disgratz 🤌garbage .. there's just so so many things wrong with it; little twists and turns are all over the place, and the set is super tacky. Not a slam on Mr. Peck at all - he's fine. The show, though. Marrón, it's terrible.
Jim Peck was the only "ace" in this rather poorly shuffled deck of cards here. The game, with a few little tweaks, might have made it. The card dealer was okay. She could stay. My biggest gripe was the contestants, one in particular. The vibe I got from them is that they didn't seem genuine. Despite all of that, I'd like to thank you again, Mr. Martindale, for another golden nugget of history.

What if he did? That would be awesome.
Jim Peck another underrated game show host
Perfectly serviceable game. Would be a good fit on GSN.
There are a number of these failed pilots on Wink's page that would've been perfect for GSN.
I like the question types, not sure about the playign card gimmick.
I think Jim did an excellent job. Crying shame he wasn't used on more game shows.
Love Bill Cullen, but Jim should have been the one taking over for Jack Barry on The Joker's Wild.
@LittleRockElevatorsYou know what they are: Joker's Wild and Second Chance!
that ''ping'' sound when an answer's correct sounds like the one used on ''Supermarket Sweep''
and the wrong answer sound sounds like the cry the Whammy makes when a player lands on him from Press Your Luck.
This was Jim Peck's very last game show he hosted, this 1990 game show pilot was awesome!!
This plays much like Barry-Enright's failed pilot "Decisions Decisions"
This show needed work. Just the same, as always, thank you for posting! I love these rare gems!

@marcpower4167 At least he wouldn't have been stuck doing those voiceover narrations on Divorce Court.
It’s essentially the bonus round of Hot Potato (which is essentially the unsold Decisions Decisions) with playing cards. Not a bad game, and Jim Peck does a solid job as always.

Given Jim Peck's presence, I feel this show would've been great for the ABC daytime lineup.
Jim Peck is one of my favorite hosts!
I enjoyed this, Jim Peck is an underrated game show host.
Jim was (is) a proud Milwaukeean, wonder if he still does public TV stuff there. He would be cool to talk to, I love visiting Milwaukee
I love this show
This was a good pilot. I honestly think Jim could have made a comeback doing this, even though I think he was doing Divorce Court as court reporter at that time

The theme music reminds me of "Give N Take" from 1975.
This was a really good show! Jim Peck was a great game show host who deserved a hit ( though I liked him on the Big Showdown)! Thank you, Wink for finding this pilot that should have been picked up!
A wrong guess sounds like the whammy from Press Your Luck
I thought he was great on the The Big Showdown.
i think the writers got it wrong: MASH had 256 episodes, Bewitched had 254. meaning he was right.
Actually, MASH had 365 episodes over 11 seasons. Essentially, one episode for every day of the year. I got it from David Reiss's MASH tribute book.
@@KrakenMan5853 I've never seen that book, but I own the entire 11 season series on DVD and rest assured, MASH had 251 total episodes.
This was a great pilot. Too bad it was not picked up. Jim Peck is awesome and you are too Wink. 😊
4:29 Her response was GOLD!

Jim Peck is one of game show’s golden boys
This was adorable. Jim Peck did a fabulous job hosting this.
This is a really cool game. If there was no room for it in syndication, perhaps USA could've picked it up. Would've fit right in there.
Had USA picked it up, they would've, likely, moved it to Canada since most of their game shows at the time, was based there.
This was one of the better ones. I would have liked to see more episodes.
And $5,000 In Cash!!!!!
23:20 loved this. The only reason it wouldn't have been picked up is...too cheap of a bonus round.
Peck did a great job here.
Very cool. Was this a one off pilot? Had good rhythm and tons of pop culture. Fun stil today
Hey, $5k in 1990 is over $11k today...
Jim Peck's a good underrated game show host. This was interesting to see.

Jim hosts some fun shows and some crazy shows like the original 3’s a crowed from Chuck Barris 😅

Jim Peck did a great job Hosting Second chance a spin off of PYL it was on ABC Daytime in 1976😮
Second Chance came before Press Your Luck.
1:57 After Lori was introducedm, i got Card Sharks vibes
Had the player lost the bonus game, I wonder if they still would have won something like $100 for each card on the board or for every correct answer given.
That announcer sounds like John Cramer.
$5,000!!!!
Who produced this show
Marty Pasetta
♠♥♣♦
Was this the 1st game show John Cramer announced?
Perhaps, but a little earlier than that, he announced The Byron Allen Show in 1989.
It's possible, though Cramer also announced the Gambit pilot with Bob Eubanks that same year.
Wonder who could've distributed it if it got picked up for syndication....

Of course they weren’t genuine. This is a pilot. They were actors.
I really think this could have worked, and I do agree, Jim Peck should have had another chance to host a game show host post Joker’s Wild
