The best advice I can give for centring is, if the wheel is spinning clockwise, lock your right elbow into your hip, tense that bicep as much as you can to keep that hand as firm as you can, and push the clay down and into your left hand. Swap this if the wheel is spinning counter-clocwise. You only need to push the clay with one hand towards the centre working with the direction of the wheel. The important thing is to stop your working hand from wobbling, and your hip is a good way to do that. Love your relaxing videos 😊
@@tammydinh also the hand with which you're applying pressure from the top, either in a karate chop or fist form, should only be touching the clay from the center to the perimeter.. like u kinda wanna go in at an angle. my teacher told me u dont wanna go like straight perpendicular down because that can cause the mushroom form when u push and also can add wonkiness. hope this makes sense lmao
@@tammydinhI love your vids you are very relatable and you are basically my idol lol!Im only 12 but I use a pottery wheel and do hand made clay items, you have insured me to try cute clay figures so thank you so much!
Be careful with doing pottery at home… you can easy plug your drains with the clay water unless you have a clay trap. Also you have to clean really well cause dry clay in the air can cause silicosis (ie potters lung) which is why most people do it in a shed out back away from their house so that they don’t contaminate the air in their house. If you do it at home buy a good air filter and keep your work area a bit separate from rest of living space.
THISSSSSS! Silicosis not reversible and with the amount of dust she already works with… is a bit concerning . Love her art and style. ❤❤❤ Hope she considers looking into safer practices. 😢
One thing as a teen, I really appreciate your vids. Helps me everyday to become the one milestone where I’m living as not sad but happy. When I see your videos I feel like a sudden boost in my body as if a big lightbulb has turned on. You all might think I’m faking this but really, as a teenager I really appreciate kind words and beautiful meanings. Thank you very much Tammy 😊.
I work on ceramics while watching your content and its so amazing to see other people getting back into ceramics! I work on my ceramic clay store while watching and you've inspired me to chase my dream of opening a online shop for my craft. thank you for these wonderful video's and content!
I think what I like about throwing is that you get comfortable with starting over again and again and again. Sometimes it’s just fun to get messy and practice rather than always looking to make a final product
I was working on cleaning the kitchen and listened to this video as a podcast, stopping from time to time my cleaning to watch your creations 🤭 That was fun!
worked on some crochet flowers while watching this, I know absolutely nothing about ceramics or sculpting but I love the calm energy this channel brings
I actually love Tammy she is my idol, my inspiration, and my joy! I binge watch her videos over and over again and no matter how many times i watch them they never get old! Her calming and comforting personality, beautiful aesthetics and editing just give me the sense of comfort ive been looking for my whole life. And girll you are so beautiful, literally drop dead gorgeous. I hope Tammy sees this and just knows how big she is in my life and the comfort she brings me. Love you Tammy ❤❤
❤i totally felt like i was back in my ceramics course at my university😄 like when u want to make a piece tall and its just so wet that it falls, and also when your piece becomes something that you did not plan. I think with ceramics its just practice practice😊becoming the wheels best friend
I have a few things to share that I found really helpful for pulling the walls up. Before you start the first pull push your thumb into the bottom of the pot to create a little shelf for your outside hand to lift and rather then pulling straight up try to bringing it in on a slight diagonal it'll help keep your walls straight and the clay will almost come up on it's own since you're working against the force of the wheel wanting to push it out so it'll have no where to go but up. Also when you're learning try compressing the lip after each pull it'll help the top stay even! I've been loving watching your videos the vibes are great and they're really relaxing!
I really loved the bowl. The way the edges naturally turned out. Looks like dumplings. It was such a pleasure seeing your process. They bought turned out great. The bowl was my favourite.
I love your little bowl! So cute♡ I'm so excited to see your mugs!! I just started my very first painting series this year, the 1st of is finally done and I was over the moon that it's turned out exactly how I wanted. #2 & 3 are coming along nicely too so I'm even more excited to get the canvas for the 4th and 5th ones
Hi Tammy, I’m so excited for this video! I love your talented clay art and I am a HUGE fan of your Maxine plushies! You are so inspiring, how you encourage maintaining a healthy work life balance ❤
I LOVE that wobble edged bowl! Its totally my style and it's gorgeous! The mug came out really nicely as well. You are so gifted. I have always wanted to make ceramic pottery. I have no room for a pottery wheel, nor money to get one, or clay, or anything else that I might need, but I still dream! Thank you for this video. It reminded me that anything is possible if you work hard for it.
Loved listening to you while I work on my next air dry clay video….my Christmas one …. eeek 😂 I too use my clay as art therapy, inspiring others to do the same. I always look forward to your videos and the calm ❤ thanks Tammy
Can't wait to see it glazed it will be amazing ! The bowl reminds me of a bright sun from the top 🌞 It's always nice to see your videos the vibe is so chill I love it
@11:31 HI Tammy! I'm Kiana. I am working on a crocheted waterbottle sling for my little brother's Stanley cup! I am a huge fan of your Maxine plushy! Huge congratulations for getting the PERFECT squishy fishy through that plushy journey. Happy playing and claying. 🐡
Such a beautiful, peaceful calming video! I love this and am inspired to make my own creative project now. “Making what you want to make even if the conditions aren’t ideal” love this message!
I hope you realize how much comfort you bring me after a long day your videos always brightwn my day and give me modivation! I hope your doing great thank you!
Hello sweet Tammy! My biggest centering advice is getting low and really making your body steady, strong and unyielding! I agree with your friend about maybe closing your eyes! It’s definitely like driving or riding a bike, can be difficult to get the knack of but once you have it you’re smooth! I love watching you grow in your art!
I’ve been throwing for about a year! Centering was the most difficult part of the process for me, I think it was beneficial for me to watch (probably hundreds) of videos on how other people center. I’d say maybe watch where you’re applying pressure with your hands- and I recently learned using a knuckle to bring the walls up is more healthy for the tendons in your hands! Loved this video! (And so jealous you have your own wheel!)
was working on a school assignment 😢 This video was the one thing that calmed me down and allowed me to continue while being relaxed and zen, thank you Tammy ❤🌱
I am currently crocheting a mood blanket while watching this and it’s so relaxing! I love how you talked about not letting conditions get in the way of creating things that you love, so true! I love watching your videos Tammy they always make my day and make my heart comfy 🥰🎨
This video was super relaxing & nice to watch, I worked on a Halloween character design while watching, thank you for being entertaining, inspiring, & helping my mental health, I think I’m going to get a Maxine plushie for Christmas, & I’m super excited for it :) Thank you.
the last piece looks so cute! i imagined a plant pot as soon as i saw it, but maybe is too short for that (i dont know anything about plants) but it looked cute in my head haha i am currently working on a pair of leg warmers and a vest with crochet :)
Those look so good Tammy! I can'Tt wait to see the end result. I've been working on a purple marble slab of polymer clay. I am in the process of preparing my very first collection for my small business, it's taking sooooo long to finally take the step and I feel very discoraged sometimes but your videos really help in my journey.
Watching this video makes me want to do ceramics again. I hope to be fast enough to buy one of these ceramics at your next drop. Thanks for sharing. ☺️

I just found your channel I love it I watched a bunch of your old videos and I have questions🫶🫶 1.what glaze do you use? 2. where did you get the customs stamp for your packages? 3. how to send the other side on the eye pin for keychains? 4. what brush do you use when you glaze your characters? 5. What you wipe on your characters before you bake them. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day❤❤❤
Hi Tammy!! Really really love your videos and the comfort they bring me, politely asking to never stop making them, they inspire me and keep me company. Lots of love from Colombia. XXOO
Hey Tammy! Love seeing you grow creatively! For throwing on the wheel, instead of resting your elbows on your knees, try to hold one arm really tight to your torso for stability and centering (I use my non-dominant arm), and use the other hand for shaping the vessel. Hope this helps!
Hi, I am a new subscriber and I absolutely love your content! Your videos make me feel so comfy and happy. I’ve just started doing polymer clay and it so fun! Stay strong. Remember, you are loved. ❤
I'm working on my comic book while watching your video. I have been really ansious lately and watching others artists doing their thing always help me focus on my art. Love the vibe, I'm kinda addicted to your channel, haha. I recently started a channel myself, trying to keep it up. 🤗❤
I worked at a clay studio for a little bit and learned that centering is all about anchoring points, like your friend said, the clay will be forced to mold to you so if you anchor your feet in the ground and then anchor your elbows into the inner part of your thighs, you’re building a good foundation. Then when centering the now wet clay, push towards the center from the south west side of the ball of clay using the lower fatty part of the palm on your left hand while simultaneously pushing down with your right hand in a clenched fist so that you are connecting with the clay with the side profile of your pinky, pinky knuckle, and palm (fist should be in the orientation as if you’re holding an ice cream cone). And when centering the clay, try to aim for a hockey puck shape! Hopefully that made sense and helps in some type of way! You’re doing amazing so far though so keep going! :))
“This is so embarrassing…” May I ask why? Getting messy is a byproduct of fun, as you know. It’s something out of your control, and not a thing that is associated with your intent, skill, or execution. You are just so lovely and humble, and it’s been incredibly warming to watch and listen to you work your way to a forgiving and confident space. Please, cut yourself some slack every chance you get. You do, indeed, deserve that ring. You deserve your success, your rewards, and your flowers; for working hard, under such immense pressure (and for so long). It’s really quite impressive, despite the challenges. And certainly inspiring. You’re doing an amazing job life-ing, and you don’t need to be hard on yourself for any of this to be true. Honored to watch your journey 💛

“This is so embarrassing…”
May I ask why?
Getting messy is a byproduct of fun, as you know. It’s something out of your control, and not a thing that is associated with your intent, skill, or execution.
You are just so lovely and humble, and it’s been incredibly warming to watch and listen to you work your way to a forgiving and confident space.

i’m still a beginner but here are some of my tips, sometimes when your mug gets a little wonky you can use a rib with a flat side and kind of use that to straighten your mug sides. you might also be going too fast when pulling, usually you want to be going around 80% speed. i know i struggled with that. ❤
ahhh tysm!! yes i took my classes so long ago i totally forgot that slower is better when pulling up ❤️❤️❤️
