Or invest in some "stickier" water bottle cages? Especially when new or newish, these cages hold a bottle over any bump, pavement wave or RR tracks: Elite Custom Race Plus Bottle Cage. You have to jam them in and use a bit of force to extract them too.
I think you need to spend a summer in Europe. Come for 6 weeks. Race 6-8 times. Low key events. Sprints.Olympic. France. Germany. Mainly. Just working on race skills. And going gun to tape more often. Overall standard of swimming is also generally high.
Congrats on your race! Regarding your drinks I’ve seen it happen so many times you could open a shop just by collecting all the fallen bottles 😊 However I noticed the more seasoned triathletes generally secure the bottles with a DIY thick elastic band system which secures the bottle by holding down the nozzle. The system is quite simple and easy to put back into place. I also noticed that it’s systematically the rear cage bottles that fall out. I’ve never lost a bottle on my frame…
lesson learned but not all is lost. it's an interesting data point to know how hard you can push on low fuel mode. now you need to find your top end of how many carbs you can handle per hour.
Congrats Ari, it good to see your talent flourish. You need some cord to loop over the nipple of the bottle to stop it getting shot out when you hit a bump
Checklists are for first timers. With the second one you think you know everything by heart and then you're at the swim start wondering why your wetsuit wont fit and you realize you took your wife's instead of yours. (me)
Have a question - what are doing in triathlon what are your goals. Have watched you for a few years and am confused as I pursue my dreams as a triathlete.
Respect for your performance despite the errors. Baffling to me how pro triathletes spend countless hours training , punishing themselves physically and mentally , spending thousands on bikes and travel, for it all to be influenced by unsecured bottles falling off the bike. Nutrition is everything during a race, its has to be locked down. How competitors and bike manufacturers haven't solved this problem so far is beyond me. Secure your nutrition Ari and that podium is yours.
Have you ever talked about why you went all in on tri as opposed to running? As a 7:50 guy did you ever think maybe you had 15 more seconds to drop there
Eh you kinda need to drop 20+ seconds these days. 7:35 gets you no where. But he is currently ranked 200+ in tri right now and hasn't been able to fully put a race together in 3 years of doing it. He seems happy and it's his life so no big deal but. He's in a position whee he's really close to the top but not ever going to be there, in either sport.
Launching bottles is not acceptable. I haven't lost a bottle and use the simple elastic over the ripple trick. It might take just a little more time but with practice I can remove the band, pull the bottle and replace it while still in aero. Give up 15 seconds on the bike or 5 min on the run after losing your nutrition....no trainer for me
Can we ask if you blow dried your hair before the swim and also when is JR swim vid coming? Hehe. Well done managing the effort without carbs, are you thinking about a few elastics to tie down bottles? Chase pack podcast needs new hosts now…..
Do I spy Connecticut plates? Hartford born and raised. Living in Maryland now. Where in Connecticut is good to take tt bikes out for a good ride? I come up often to check on my parents.
The Audi was a rental car lmao we don't got money like that, but yea drove it up from CT where my parent's live. No where near me is great flat TTing, it's all super rolling/hilly/punchy riding, but the roads out in Granby, Hartland, Barkhamsted, Enfield, Suffield, etc. are all really dope.
It seems that just about every second pro triathlete race recap video these days starts with the ole’ ‘I lost my nutrition’ line. … Hopefully Ari this will be a mistake you make only once. Sure, ‘secure’ your bottles, BUT also … please … pack a redundancy / back up. Your canyon has a pretty big built in ‘bento box’ type compartment (I think) - so there is no excuse for not packing 8 gels as back ups. The worst that happens is that you don’t end up using them. Sweet - put them back in the fridge and use them in training next week. Better still - 4 x 30gram ‘precision hydration’ caffeine gels plus 1 x 90g carb gel in your gel compartment, so that you lose one - or both - 110 gram carb bottles will not make a difference. … anyhoo … this was a ‘teachable moment’ … as long as you don’t repeat the mistake.
Off day. Over 70.3's this year he has consistently been able to get to the front of the races within an hour of the bike. Yes he's got crazy bike power but you can't do that if you didn't swim within striking distance.
@@archmdz he's a really nice athlete no doubt and I like him as well. But he raced only in the US this year. Swim rank at PTO is also far off from his bike and run performance. Just listen to a podcast discussing why US athletes are not so well performing in Europe. Conclusion was the strength in swimming here. Maybe you will see it in Italy. I'm not a pro, so I can relax and watch 😁 But I wish you all the best for Italy!
Really stupid to lose bottles like that. If you call yourself a pro you should test and evaluate every detail. Bottle holders that lose a bottle over a bump a poor engineering which is the stupidest low tech thing on a 10k+ bike. It reminds me of the situation you had with the electric shifters running out of battery power. Critical systems should have redundancy - they should be learning from industries like aerospace (well, before the bean counters moved in that is).
Ari you're super funny, I laughed so hard at "I was having a super controlled blow up by myself". The podiums are coming :)
Great race Ari! You have that podium finish in your sights now, the fitness is there, things just have to go right.
Love the format of alternating close-up Ari commentary shots and vlog style video content. Nice one!
Great positivity. Keep at it. You'll get your breakthrough race soon. Good luck at your upcoming races.
This is the gotcha of triathlon. We always feel like we can do better if we fixed a thing or two, and so we are compelled to keep doing them.
13:18 FINALLY, someone else who dismounts their bike the BEST way.
I saw the result on the GTN UA-cam channel. I was so happy to see that you were 5th. Keep training and the results will come!
Why don't you pack at least 2 reserve gels? Feels like so many athletes just lose their bottles along the way?
Because I am a little silly billy that's why
he didn't make the checklist his mom keeps telling him to make
Or invest in some "stickier" water bottle cages? Especially when new or newish, these cages hold a bottle over any bump, pavement wave or RR tracks: Elite Custom Race Plus Bottle Cage. You have to jam them in and use a bit of force to extract them too.
You’ll get it Ari, great race recap and it’s right there!
Congratulations! You are getting there!
Fantastic race and upcoming training Ari. Looking forward to the breakthrough.

U gonna pay for that?

Good Job. Well done. You are in the right path.
Great performance! Love seeing the progress!
Congratulations, keep up the great work
Such smart racing in the bike. Very good

Love it! Thanks for sharing!

Great result
More tunes. More tunes.
nice! you got this
Sorry Ari!!
No sweat bro it's just racing!
oh man that bed is scary!
Nice recap, keep making progress. Experiment with rubber bands or similar bands around bottles of you haven't already
Biiiiiig WeHe guy
Great results though brotha! Podium next year for sure🤙
Thanks for the charger dude!
i’m curious why you’re not using the internal hydration storage on the bike
Huge watts.
Securing bottles is easy waiting for San Remo + penny camp videos
Hope to see you in Nice 2025 and Kona 2026!
My Tadej will offer you nutrition during your race in Italy!
Have a question - what are doing in triathlon what are your goals. Have watched you for a few years and am confused as I pursue my dreams as a triathlete.
I want to devote myself fully to it and figure out how far I can go
congratz on the progress. why italy ? its a lot of travel. eu guys usually complain the us have lots more races.
Good luck baby 😘 🪻
If he maintains that 1st five-mile (run) pace -- he's a lock for 2nd.

Yep. a $1000 mistake!

Is it real cash? How they pay? And how quickly after the race?
yes. yes. yes.
Usually takes a few weeks to get paid

@@archmdz by chance do you have those routes posted on Strava? Hoping to move up to 70.3 and need to get more time in the saddle.
Every time Trevor and Lionel race, I always check Ari on the start list. the best of luck on your next race.
big jerry garcia vibes from papa klau
lmao
my dad's favorite Ben and Jerry's flavor is Cherry Garcia
Lol imagine getting a draft penalty these days? Ironman Frankfurt and T100 races are basically draft legal.

....yup. It was very silly.
Don't think Trevor is a good swimmer. Have you seen the results at IM Frankfurt?
Off day. Over 70.3's this year he has consistently been able to get to the front of the races within an hour of the bike. Yes he's got crazy bike power but you can't do that if you didn't swim within striking distance.

Be careful about the microplastic in those packets if rice that you heat up in the microwave

What size of crank do u use
90 seconds off the front, but how many seconds is that moustache costing you on the swim and bike? 🥸
