It reached #10 in UK Album Charts.
I really don't think it gets any better than this! Wish the Who would've done a whole album with Leslie, or a tour. Just imagine.
"Remember sadly, love ain't for keeping"
R.I.P. Leslie West
Leslie was a force to reckon with
That tone is unmistakable. RIP LW!
I've been a Leslie West fan since 1970, he "taught" me how to play tasteful but unmistakably HARD ROCK guitar, and I never knew he played on this song, and my little sister had this album because she thought Roger Daltrey was cute. I doubt Leslie is Resting In PEACE by the way. Whenever there's thunder, it's Leslie plugging his LP Junior into 12 Sunn amps up in heaven.
I greatly prefer this version over the one on Who's Next.
The same with me!
Hell yes! 100%
For so many reasons.
sukramebar , me too , more dynamism!
Nah.. this is a fun jam. The album version is a well honed gem.and as wonderful as leslie west was, he’s simply not part of this band. No roger...
Superb tone as always. RIP Leslie.
Leslie West's guitar solos are like fucking sunrises!! Listen to Mountain's "Don't Look Around" if you get a chance.
I saw Mountain live in 1984. Still, to this day, the most incredible guitar tone I've heard live.
Never in my life
Layin' on my back
In the newly mown grass
Rain is coming down
But I know the clouds will pass
You bring me tea
Say "the babe's a-sleepin'"
Lay down beside me
Love ain't for keeping
Black ash from the foundry
Hangs like a hood
But the air is perfumed
By the burning firewood
The seeds are bursting
The spring is seeping
Lay down beside me
Love ain't for keeping
Lay down beside me
Love ain't for keeping
Lay down beside me
Love ain't for keeping
Lay down my darling
Love ain't for keeping
Wow, that was great...thanks for sharing! Leslie sounds great playing with the Who!
gbrycki yeah and you can tell what bits Leslie is playing he's tone is unmistakable Pete and Leslie seem to come up alot in you tube comments although they play nothing like each other there is just something and I'm not sure what it is that makes them....... I don't fukin know just
.... Something.
Rest In Peace Leslie you rocked hard
The Who adjusted the lyrics from this version to the Who's Next version: lines 13-16 and lines 5-8 are swapped. Also line 4 Roger sings "But I know the clouds will pass" where Pete sang "But the clouds are sure to pass".
He's great on Baby Don'tcha Do It with the Who also.
Now that's a genuinely awesome track.
no kidding - Leslie West? I never knew that. The 2 best power chord players in the world on the same song? Thanks for the info.
Freaking awesome!!!
Pete's rhythm guitar is fantastic.
Fell in love with John’s sound because of this song.
Better than the version on 'Who's next'. Especially Moon/Entwistle.
I think.
Masterpiece in every possible point of view!
Why not, Pete Townsend said Leslie West was the best guitar player around !
Besides Terry Kath.....well at least according to Jimi
Not sure why uncle Les was on here , didn’t Pete feel confident with his own performance?
@@mikewest1542 t the time, no. Leslie West did a few back up leads for Pete.
Too smooth for me. No one can beat Pete's angular playing - and he rarely comes in on the "1"!
AWESOME!!!
Man, I sure wish this version was available on vinyl.
TheAgeOfAnalog , think its on a double album i have , i will check.
@@mikewest1542 I have the vinyl album. Studio album, extra tracks with Leslie West and the double vinyl live at the Vic.
de los mejores discos
RIP Leslie West
Thanks man fella.
The Who .. have it figured out.
Moon!
It's a crime the reissued edition from 1998 the 11 songs originals must been at original order.and bonus tracks after...the historical identity of 1974 album has been destroyed.
The original version in the Who's Next is heavenly ..... this one featuring the Great Fatsby is possibly better.... ❤️❤️❤️
#80 like
Pete on lead vocals
katabois center of town
Who knew?
Pete sings this better than Roger.
tulllguy your comment is absurd. they are both great singers
tulllguy No
Wait I'm confused! This IS Pete playing and singing! No??
Leslie: The Who's company were representing us in England. I think this was in about 1971, I got a call from Kit Lambert, one of their managers, asking would I play guitar on this new album they're doing? I said, "They have a guitar player." But he said, "Pete doesn't want to overdub, he wants to do it straightaway."
"So I came in and we did the whole album, and then they went back to England, and Glyn Johns re-did it [with Townsend playing the lead guitars].And then sure enough, they re-released it in the Nineties, the Who's Next re-mixes. So it's on there, and it talks about me in the booklet. On one [bonus] cut especially, "Baby Don't You Do It", you hear me playing lead on the right, and Townsend playing on the left, the rhythm, and it was so thrilling to do that. "
No Joe Mobilia... Leslie West played lead... Pete rhythm and vocals...
Leslie.. Your guitar work is astounding... With Mountain... And on these Who's Next tracks... Brilliant.. So wish they'd took you on Tour.. You and Pete playing like this together.. Would have been unbelievable!
it is not better. roger is a better singer than leslie by a long island mile
I confused by this comment ….. this is obvious that Pete and sometimes Roger are doing the singing and Les is playing lead ….. What's your point ???
Read somewhere that Roger wasn't around when this session was recorded in the US
Tempo is too fast.
Who the fuck is Leslie west?
He put the ton in Mountain
