I have a 3 year old boy. We will be getting a compound microscope for Christmas. We will open it as a family gift ❤

@@NerdyNEET it is actually for me. I mentioned my 3 years old because I will have him and my husband view in the microscope. My husband said “that would be so cool to look at things” when I said I want a microscope for Christmas. My 3 years old likes to ask that’s why I included him. We are getting a stereo microscope.

You must think about the use of a microscope or any tool by a child as a chance for learning and growth. They need to be shown how to use it, they might make mistakes, they might break something, but those, too, are learning experiences. Most parents think nothing of handing a toddler an iPhone (I’ll refrain from judging that action) even though cellular phones are quite expensive, why should a microscope for an older school-ages child be any different?

Having a microscope is like having a spaceship.

My opinion on this topic is, buy yourself a good microscope if you have previous experience with microscopy and definitely don’t let someone you know might break it use it. If you have children you can buy a cheap microscope, in my experience they’re good enough. I let my cousin use my expensive microscope and it’s not broken yet so yeah

Couldn’t agree more, my kids have full access to mine for the sake of a few hundred quid if they discover something that gets them interested its well worth it and yes they have their own iPads phones etc that are more expensive.

Also if they do break it, it gives dad a reason for an upgrade 😂

Hello, Oliver. Why don't you do more human-anatomy microbiology? Much of that of what you are doing now in terms of your videos being very much focussed on water and plant life I feel is quite repetitive. I do understand, though, that you are perhaps, as a school teacher, producing each video on the assumption that you are teaching a new class.

Don't expect spare parts from manufacturers for very long. I have a 5k $ retail microscope camera from Nikon that is less than 15 years old and no spare cables are available from Nikon.

Whole ass parents really be spending 300 dollars on a present for their kid and then saying things like, "if they break it, whatever".

Hi I really enjoy your channel. I was wondering if you had an opinion on the LW Scientific i4 and innovation microscopes. I would like to know if there are any known issues as I really can’t find any reviews on them. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Nothing is permanent, humans break too... gadgets break and can be fixed (treat them like glasses). I just bought a $125 microscope and believe me the joy of viewing is much more than the fear and agony of breaking ... i wish i had this tool 40 yrs back. Every students should have one or at least have the experience of using one.

I fully agree. Some years ago, our school finally bought a microscope, a decent omax binocular, and I started using it with the kids. Now we had that 1 microscope, but in science classes we could have 14-20 kids every time, so it was very frustrating for the kids, and for me, to get enough 'microscope time' to learn properly how to use it. Back in those days, about 20 years ago, a scope was really expensive, around 2000 dollars. I bought a bresser lcd with built in screen, not very god, but 3 kids could use it together, improving greatly on the one to twenty ratio. Think that scope set me back (personally) some 250 dollars. I also got a seben sx5 scope, fully comprable to the school's omax, and also used that one in my classes. The seben cost me around 350 dollars. Both my scopes had to be imported from Germany to Norway.
