My day pack holds 40 liters, good for long hikes and out of town trips, but much to big for daily use. This sling bag looks more practicle for in town day use. I would also include a water bottle, especialy during the summer. Cute cat BTW.

Yeah this is perfect for basic essentials! I'm using it daily works great.
For the hydration part you mentioned I keep a few water bottles in the car and bring separately a stainless steel smoothie bottle.
